Adverbial -ing Clauses in Newswriting: A Diachronic Comparison
Lávička, Adam ; Šaldová, Pavlína (advisor) ; Brůhová, Gabriela (referee)
The present diploma thesis deals with the "adverbial ing-clause network", comprising free adjuncts, absolute constructions, and adverbial verbal gerunds, as postulated by Fonteyn and Pol (2016). Taking a diachronic perspective, the study examines adverbial -ing clauses and their inherent features (i.e. augmentation, position, punctuation, co-reference, complexity, and semantic interpretation) in two manually compiled corpora of newspaper reports from The Guardian, seeking to unveil differences between the two corpora as regards the usage of -ing clauses that may have stemmed from the shift in medium over the 70-year time span. While the 'Old Corpus' features newspaper reports from 1953 in printed broadsheet format, the 'New Corpus' consists of news articles from 2023 in online format. Further, this thesis also aims to detect and elucidate trends in the usage of -ing clauses, as well as verify correlations between the inherent features of -ing clauses as proposed in previous research. The empirical analysis has uncovered a number of significant differences in the employment of -ing clauses between the two periods. The 'New Corpus' was observed to have 2.8 times higher incidence of -ing clauses, a fact that was argued to boil down to the shift in the medium and its accompanying structural changes of...

The use of the Daphnia magna organism in the evaluation of the efficiency of domestic wastewater treatment plants
Petrová, Adela ; Komendová, Renata (referee) ; Zlámalová Gargošová, Helena (advisor)
The aim of this bachelor thesis was to assess the efficiency of two domestic wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) with a capacity of 30–500 equivalent inhabitants (EO), with 10 to 20 inhabitants using them. The evaluation was carried out through ecotoxicological tests on the aquatic organism Daphnia magna, and analytical analysis, where selected indicators specified in Government Regulations No. 401/2015 Coll. and No. 57/2016 Coll. were investigated. In the acute tests, a significant reduction in the toxicity level of the water at the outlet of the treatment plant, compared to the water at the inlet, was observed. In both treatment plants, EC50 values were determined only at the influent, as there was no mortality above 50 % at the effluent. The EC50 values for WWTP 1 were calculated to be 653.9 ml/l (24hEC50) and 471.1 ml/l (48hEC50). For WWTP 2, these values were determined to be 286.4 ml/l (24hEC50) and 186.2 ml/l (48hEC50). Chronic tests also showed that the treated water from the treatment plant at concentrations of 10 % and 1 % did not have a negative effect on the growth and reproduction of D. magna, but promoted the growth of algae used as food. From an analytical point of view, the treatment efficiency in both treatment plants was COD above 70 %, but only WWTP 1 did not exceed the maximum COD value of 220 mg/l for discharge of treated water to surface water. This plant also met the conditions for discharge to groundwater, unlike WWTP 2.

Issues regarding selected conditions for participant exclusion in public procurement proceedings
Hourová, Aneta ; Patěk, Daniel (referee)
1 Abstract Issues regarding selected conditions for participant exclusion in public procurement proceedings This dissertation deals with issues surrounding specification of conditions for participant exclusion in public procurement proceedings with special focus on the condition contained in section 48(5)(d) of Act No. 134/2016 Coll., on public procurement procedure ("PPP"). The issue presented by the condition for exclusion in section 48(5)(d) PPP, which states that the contracting authority may exclude a participant from the procedure on grounds of unsuitability, relates to how this is achieved in practice according to the rules and principles of the PPP and the regulation of the quality of competition (unfair competition). This dissertation draws attention to the limitations of section 48(5)(d) PPP and its application, and critically analyses and evaluates its subject. According to the current jurisprudence of the Office, the exclusion of a participant can often be unsuccessful due to a confusing interpretation of the rules of its application. The Office for the protection of competition has stated that for a successful exclusion of a participant under section 48(5)(d) PPP, the contracting authority must satisfy an evidential burden and prove that a misconduct by a reliable supplier has occurred. This...

Prevention and therapy of recurrent Clostridioides difficile infection
Polívková, Sylvia ; Beneš, Jiří (advisor) ; Krbková, Lenka (referee) ; Rožnovský, Luděk (referee)
Introduction: Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI) is the most common nosocomial gastrointestinal infection, it is associated with antibiotic use and due to the spread of epidemic strains of C. difficile, there are differences in the course and severity of the disease. This study aimed to describe the characteristics of patients with CDI, to perform molecular analysis of isolates , and then to correlate CDI course and treatment outcomes with the causative ribotypes. Furthermore, the efficacy of antibiotic regimens in the treatment of CDI was evaluated with the severity and number of CDI episodes. Methods: The observational cohort study was conducted in 2013-2016 at the Department of Infectious Diseases of the Bulovka University Hospital in Prague. Patients with laboratory-confirmed CDI were included in the study. C. difficile isolates were characterized by ribotyping, multiple variable tandem repeat analysis (MLVA) and examination of antibiotic resistance determinants (mutations in gyrA, gyrB, rpoB genes or the presence of ermB). Univariate logistic regression was used to evaluate the efficacy of antibiotic regimens (metronidazole, vancomycin, combination of vancomycin and metronidazole, fidaxomicin). Subgroup analyses were performed based on the number and severity of CDI episodes. Results: A...

Ethical questions in the work of radiation protection specialists
HÝBLOVÁ, Marie
This thesis deals with the ethical decision-making of radiation protection professionals in accordance with the Decree 422/2016 Coll. on Radiation Protection and the Atomic Act 263/2016 Coll. The aim of the thesis is to identify and specify the ethical problems encountered by radiation protection professionals (e.g. radiation protection officers, inspectors of the SNPP, etc.), to analyse ethical issues and dilemmas in this field and to find answers. The theoretical framework focuses on the concept of ethics, its development, history and a detailed description of the different ethical orientations. It then goes on to cover the basic ethical values in the radiation protection system, procedural ethical values, principles of radiation protection, protection from external exposure, monitoring, incidents, accidents and their assessment, preparedness and response. The radiation protection chapter also includes a description of the infrastructure of the radiation protection system. The theoretical part of the thesis also includes a description of organisations dealing with radiation protection in the Czech Republic and organisations dealing with radiation protection in the world context. The empirical research was conducted through a questionnaire survey and structured interviews that were completed by radiation protection personnel. The research results were evaluated using qualitative methods. The research questions were designed by asking respondents about their attitudes towards ethical issues in radiation protection and their experiences and views on aspects of working in this field. The research results were then interpreted to analyse the ethical issues and dilemmas faced by radiation protection professionals in their work. The thesis focuses on identifying key aspects of ethical decision-making in radiation protection and explores ways to improve current practices and policies. Subsequent results provide important insights into professionals' attitudes towards ethical issues. The conclusion of the research highlights that radiation protection requires an integrated approach that respects the diverse approaches of professionals in this field. Transparent communication and public participation are key to successful radiation protection strategies.

Management of Informal Care
POSLUŠNÁ, Věra
Informal care is a care provided by a lay caregiver, who is usually a family member (husband/wife, daughter/son) or a neighbour and is provided in the natural home environment of the person being cared for. The main goal of the thesis is to find out how the issue of informal care is solved in the administrative district of the municipality with extended jurisdiction of České Budějovice in the context of health and social care. A partial goal is to find out the experiences of informal caregivers with caring for a close person. The thesis was prepared as part of the project of the Technological Agency of the Czech Republic, ÉTA program "Support of informal caregivers in the South Bohemian region through audiovisual means including virtual reality (no. TL03000518). A qualitative research strategy was chosen for the research part of the thesis. The interview method and the in-depth interview technique were chosen as the method. The data was processed by thematic analysis. The research group consisted of 11 informal caregivers who take care of a close person aged 65+ in a home environment in České Budějovice The research showed that informal care is addressed within the National Strategy for the Development of Social Services for the period 2016-2024. The South Bohemian Region deals with informal care within the medium-term plan for the development of social services of the South Bohemian Region for the period 2022-2024. The Statutory City of České Budějovice deals with informal care in the strategic framework R-Social Services Plan of České Budějovice for the period 2022-2024 and in the Action Plan of the R-Plan of Social Services České Budějovice 2022-2024 for the year 2024. The experiences of informal caregivers revealed barriers such as lack of information about health and social services, ignorance of social benefits and contributions, little awareness of support programs, especially at the beginning of caregiving. Research has shown that caregiving affects several areas of informal caregivers' lives.
