Support of Reading in the Municipal Library Branches in Prague

(in English) The thesis deals with a support of reading with aim effort to offered service, organizing cultural and educational actions in the Municipal Library of Prague. The first part solves theoretical definition and the meaning of reading. There are briefly explained some terms that relate to - reading, the reader, reading socialization, reading literacy, etc. Factors that influence reading process and education for reading are monitored, as well. Furthermore, national representative projects supporting reading primarily in libraries are presented at my work, too. The second part of my work is focused on the Municipal Library of Prague and its role in supporting reading. It describes the library from the view of its mission, the way of financing (funding) and organization structure. The essential part pays attention to the presentation of specialized sections and services, which are provided in the library. It describes different actions supporting reading or providing propagation of the library. Last but not least, the different sections of the Municipal Library of Prague are depicted here with attention to organizing cultural and educational actions, which contributes to supporting reading. Reading development of children with multiple disabilities at basic school

Petra Horynová DEPARTMENT: Special Education Department SUPERVISOR: PhDr. Pavlína Šumníková, Ph.D. Abstract This Bachelor's Thesis deals with how to apply a combination of different methods of teaching reading primary school pupils with multiple handicaps. The first part defines the phrase multiple handicaps and specifies the conditions under which the pupils with multiple handicap are integrated into the primary school. The second part specifies methods of teaching reading, defines mental conditions required for learning to read under usual conditions and determinants affecting the process of teaching reading children with multiple handicaps. Empirical research was aimed to analyse the methods and conditions of reading lessons for children with multiple handicaps, to map development of reading skills in a group of pupils with multiple handicaps and to verify the importance of combination of various reading teaching methods. The development of Czech elementary reading and writing textbooks in the 20th century

This thesis analyses the historical development of Czech elementary reading and writing textbooks from 1900 to 1999. It comes from the listing of the elementary reading and writing methods from the beginning to the present, it continues with the description and the evaluation of the most of textbooks used in the last century and tells the life stories of main authors. Working with text and development of reading knowledge in minorit groups

Title: Working with text and development of reading knowledge in minorit groups Michal Vejlupek My diploma theme with title, Working with text and development of reading knowledge in minorit groups is about reading and reading literacy. It was concerned with the definition of these conceptions with an outline of its development. Described the historical evolution of the education methods of the first reading focused on understanding. From minority groups concentrates on Vietnamese ethnic group and on their day-to-day problems in Czech Republic emphasized on their different communication. Approaching issues of the children with different mother tongues and the education methods in Czech Republic related to this dissimilarity (OBL) which is at the beginning. In practice part of my diploma there is a research of differences between Vietnamese and Czech students. My results confirm no differences between them. Vietnamese children are worse than Czech in understanding but deficiency is low. Results of reading questionnaire show no big differences also.

5 DIPLOMA THESIS SUMMARY This diploma thesis deals with the realation of reading and the creation of values. It confirms reading as educational value, as well as reading as means of education towards values in contemporary Kindergarten. In the theoretical part there are at first defined general terms such as value and education. Following these are described in context with kindergarten, preschool child, his needs and his family. The thesis deals with reading as such. There are clarified different aspects that influence the development of reading and its eduvational value. It is the action of educators and their relationship to books, as well as fairy tale itself, which enormously influence the relationship to the values and their subsequent formation. Similarly, the actual illustrations in books and, on the contrary, today's media such as television or the Internet, which may have negative influence, if used incorrectly. The practical part describes the conduct of investigation that focused on actual reading. The investigation was based on two questionnaires. One was addresed to the Kindergartens" teachers, the other one to the parents of preschool children. Reading of adolescents with specific learning disabilities

The thesis investigates reading problems among adolescents with specific learning disabilities. The theoretical part of the paper outlines theoretical fundamentals of reading problems, different approaches to specific learning disabilities, reading particularities and reading related skills among adolescents and adults. The research part of the paper comprises the analysis and interpretation of data obtained via a comparison of the reading performance of students with specific disabilities and the performance of intact student population. The main goal of the thesis is to detect basic reading characteristics among adolescents with specific learning disabilities.
