Folkstories of school-age children
Doskočilová, Aneta ; Klusák, Miroslav (advisor) ; Viktorová, Ida (referee)
The main purpose of this bachelor thesis is to carry out heuristically conceived and adequately reduced replication of B. Sutton-Smith research. B. Sutton-Smith focused on children narration development and during his long term research he collected hundreds of stories from children aged 2 - 10. Based on this stories' analysis he created a theory which he later published together with selected stories in his monograph called The folkstories of children. In accordance with B. Sutton-Smith method I chose school enviroment for my data collection. Nevertheles I focused on children aged 8 - 15 and applied certain Sutton-Smith analysis techniques on collected stories. I have particulary observed the conflict resolution level, nature of the conflict and the way the conflict is solved. Subsenquently I have compared my findings with Sutton-Smith conclusions. In stories - unlike Sutton-Smith - I have not found significant age gradient on the level of conflict solution. Nevertheless I have detected a difference in usage of these levels amongst girls and boys. It is important to bear in mind I worked with incomparably smaller sample than Sutton-Smith did and my age group was different too. All these aspects might have led to these dissimilar results
Participation and role of EU in resolving Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict
Hasanov, Ahmad ; Riegl, Martin (advisor) ; Bocianová, Kateřina (referee)
The thesis analyses the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia over the region of Nagorno-Karabakh which both parties claim to be their historical territory. The thesis explains how the conflict started and continued with a full-scale military conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia, which is commonly referred to as the Nagorno-Karabakh War. One of the most important chapter of the thesis is the description of roles played by foreign mediators such as Russia, Kazakhstan, Iran and Turkey. All those countries pursued their own geopolitical and economic goals in the region, and wished to actively participate in it in order to spread their influence. The European Union has constantly been playing an important role in settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict thanks to its active involvement in all peacekeeping and mediation processes in the region. Nonetheless, despite all international efforts, the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh still continues as of today, and the parties cannot come to any compromise due to the antagonistic nature of their territorial disputes for Nagorno-Karabakh. Both, Azerbaijan and Armenia have started actively deploying their troops on the mutual borders, which raises fears among the international community that a new war for Nagorno-Karabakh might start already in the near future.
Constructing Nagorno-Karabakh: a diachronic discourse analysis
Davidson White, Imogen ; Aslan, Emil (advisor) ; Horák, Slavomír (referee)
In over 20 years of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, there has been no significant progress towards a peaceful agreement. It has been argued that there is not enough incentive for leaders to agree to a compromise and that the citizens are not ready to accept one. In this context, the way the conflict and the enemy are described in public discourse is important not only because it represents the viewpoints of those producing the discourse but because it can have a real effect on public opinion. This paper examines discourse on Azerbaijan and the future of Nagorno-Karabakh in an official newspaper, showing that distrust of Azerbaijan and rigid expectations about the future of Nagorno-Karabakh are dominant.
Conflict resolution among competitive Ballroom dancers in the process of learning and the influence of personal relationships
Vanek, Marián ; Chrz, Vladimír (advisor) ; Šlédr, Jiří (referee) ; Lindová, Jitka (referee)
Basic element of competitive Dance Sport is the dance couple. For being succesful, it's needed to master the combination of specific dance skills, sport skills, stress resilience and skills connected to dance partnership, mainly communication skills and conflict resolution skills. Since the scientific research of conflict resolution among competitive couples is very scarce, aim of our explorative qualitative research is to understand how Latin Dance Sport couples experience conflicts and their subjective meaning of partnership in competitive dance. Experiences of dancers of various dance classes and their trainers were gathered using questionnaire (= 43) and half-structured interviews (= 13). Based on themati analysis, relevant themes were identified and described, and explanatory model further based on activity theory, game theory and theory of interdependence was proposed. Model suggests that contradiction of two different motives (competitive success vs. partner relationship) in the activity systems of competitive dance predisposes possible complex relationships between (implicit and/or explicit) aims of dancers, their type of partnership, possible expressed conflicts and their preferred styles of conflict resolution (based on the unique context of every dance couple). Relevant identified themes...
Big Data: A New Perspective on Conflict Resolution
Šerstka, Anastasija ; Střítecký, Vít (advisor) ; Špelda, Petr (referee)
The thesis examines the role of big data in resolving modern conflicts. The study combines the concept of big data with conflict resolution theory and then applies them to three directions of conflict resolution: non-violent, violent, and conflict prevention. Each of the three groups is accompanied by a case study. This method allows a detailed understanding of various aspects related to the resolution of current conflicts using technology and big data analytics. The thesis examines empirical data associated with many innovative projects that have been implemented or are in the process of development for the resolution of ongoing conflicts - UN projects focused on big data collection, technology projects developed by the US state research centers, databases of large amounts of data related to conflicts. Based on the acquired knowledge, this work explores the big data analysis for conflict resolution, its forms, advantages, disadvantages and limitations. Big data perspectives on the resolution of modern conflicts, based on empirical analysis, are summarized in three groups: operational (real-time data collection and processing), tactical (real-time decision-making based on big data analysis outcomes), and strategic (data-driven strategic advantage). The thesis concludes that the main advantage of...
Conflict resolution in Donbas: Ukraine's contribution
Sergeeva, Oxana ; Kazharski, Aliaksei (advisor) ; Laryš, Martin (referee)
Reference SERGEEVA, Oxana. Enteral Predispositions of the Conflict in Donbass. Prague, 2021. Master's thesis. Charles University,Facultyof Social Sciences,Institute of SecurityStudies. Abstract The Revolution in Ukraine of 2014 has brought a lot of regional and international changes. Even though the crisis appears to be over, the new official authorities of Ukraine and the self- proclaimedDonetsk and Lugansk people's republics are still conflicting. It has commonly been assumed that the armed conflict in Donbas was the result of a latent Russian military aggression against Ukraine and that forces opposing the Ukrainian government do not represent the local populationrather being sponsored by the Russian authority. However, external incentives arguably could not lead to the emergence of a viable and widespread rebel movement unless there were internal predispositions to the emergence of armed separatism. It is vital to address problems within the country to identify domestic preconditions for invasion and conflict incitement. This researchwould argue that a key role in the emergence of the armed separatist movement in Donbas was played by at least two factors: historicallyformed polaritywithin the Ukrainian populationand the structure of the government. Thus, the armed conflict in Donbas was the result of a...

The Role of International Intervention in Ending the War in Bosnia and Herzegovina Focusing on NATO's Operation Deliberate Force
Doležal, Jan ; Žíla, Ondřej (advisor) ; Pondělíček, Jiří (referee)
A complicated civil conflict that was part of the process of disintegration of Yugoslavia took place in Bosnia and Herzegovina during the years of 1992-1995. The civil war, during which the warring parties received significant support from external actors, attracted a lot of attention internationally. The approach of the international community to the crisis developed significantly throughout the war. Initially, the strictly neutral peace and humanitarian intervention presented primarily by UNPROFOR did not have a sufficient mandate and was long ineffective in seeking a peace resolution. A major breakthrough in the international community's approach occurred during the summer of 1995 when NATO decided for the first time in its history to conduct a large-scale military campaign following repeated violations of UN Security Council resolutions. The demonstration of NATO's air power through the Operation Deliberate Force is often seen as the key factor in forcing the Bosnian Serb leadership to start the process of peace talks which eventually led to the end of the conflict. However, the primary objective of the operation was not to end the war itself, but merely to end the siege of Sarajevo and prevent attacks on other so-called safe areas under the auspices of the UN. Furthermore, Deliberate Force was...
Different Mentality as a basis of international conflicts. The case of escalation relations between Russia and the EU in 2008 - 2018.
Kruglikova, Ekaterina ; Cviklová, Lucie (advisor) ; Černý, Karel (referee)
Since 2008 with the Russo-Georgian war we observe the gradual deterioration of relations between Russia and the European Union which achieves its apogee during the Ukrainian crisis and the annexation of Crimea. The cultural approach is to be applied for understanding and exploration of the conflict: its reasons and mechanism. The work is aimed to define conflicting beliefs and values, considering them on a cultural basis. The current escalation of relationships is reviewed as a cultural conflict, the author claims different mentality as one of the influential factors and possible dimensions of conflict analysis. This work also points out internal cultural mechanisms and features provoking aggressive external policy and considers cultural identity as a container of ideas which justify and originate opposition and conflict with other cultures. This work is an attempt to introduce a concept of an individual's mentality, to link personal and group mentality and find out how cultural meaning content influences on formation of a personal mindset - a system of personal beliefs and values. Research part consists of preliminary comparative questionnaire-based survey with 30 respondents, secondary analysis of World Value Survey, and 10 depth interviews based on 3 survey questions, analyzed by means of mental...
