Meetings of schools and families: gender changes the rules
Who Governs? The Participation of Ministers in Council Meetings
Vlček, Václav ; Parízek, Michal (advisor) ; Plechanovová, Běla (referee)
The thesis deals with the participation of ministers in the Council of the European Union. The first goal is to explore the participation as such, i.e. how often the ministers attend the Council meetings and what differences there are among the member states and the Council configurations. Secondly, the thesis seeks to reveal factors at the institutional (European), national and governmental level which have an impact on the participation. From the theoretical point of view, the thesis is framed by the rational choice approach. In terms of methodology, a quantitative analysis based on extensive dataset for the period 2009 - 2015 and logistic regression have been employed. The thesis concludes that the ministers attend the Council meetings quite often - the average for the period was 64%. Regarding the individual factors, it is argued that the ministers representing the presidency country attend the sessions more often. Similarly, the participation is higher if there are many points on the agenda or if the minister represents a pro-European government. On the contrary, the probability of the participation is lower if the ministers face upcoming legislative elections at home. The analysis also shows that the public attitude towards the EU is irrelevant in this case. The results are, finally,...

The Professional Ideal of Nurses and its Transformation
Juklíčková, Ilona ; Havrdová, Zuzana (advisor) ; Drábková, Hana (referee)
This thesis deals with the changes in the concept of the ideal characteristics of a nurse in the context of historical development, social changes and other factors. These include mainly an educational reform, new biomedical findings and the influence of the media along with generational differences in nurses. This thesis aims at comparing the ideal characteristics of a nurse as portrayed in professional literature with ideas which nurses have themselves about their own desired professional characteristics. Specifically, it concentrates on what values these ideal characteristics represent in their eyes, whether their ideas change with age and how this relates to the perception of the prestige of the nursing profession by nurses themselves. The theoretical part is divided into chapters describing the ideal professional characteristics of a nurse based on the findings acquired from professional literature, whose topics also correlate with chapters in the research part and represent the development of the "model" nurse concept from the beginnings of Christianity to the present day. It assesses the differences in the concept of this ideal in Western Europe and the Czech lands in the course of the 20th century, in the context of social transformations and changes in nursing education. Furthermore, based...

The Image of the Ruler in the Early Middle Age in Hagiographical Sources
Némethová, Marcela ; Drška, Václav (referee)
The subject of the thesis is to analyse the image of the Merovingian ruler in hagiographical sources concentrating on the period from the accession of Chlotar II. to the Frankish thrones in 613 until the fall of the dynasty in 751. While based on the texts, its task is to evaluate the nature of the Merovingian power, which underwent a process of Christianization by Church after baptism of Clovis I. The analysis reveals to what extent the inherited patristic ideas about political power were applied, and at the same time it comments on the issue of pagan and Christian sacrality. The study also deals with the relationship between royal power and ecclesiastical institutions in terms of administrative and spiritual, while referring to its important role in the change of dynasties.

Work motivation

The role of growth factors in the pathogenesis of papillary thyroid cancer
Veselý, David ; Betka, Jan (advisor) ; Nečas, Emanuel (referee) ; Slípka, Jaroslav (referee)
This thesis deals with the role of growth factors in the pathogenesis of thyroid gland tumors. There exist a lot of studies describing growth factors production or occurrence directly in the thyroid tissue. The aim of this thesis was to find possible differences in serum concentrations of growth factors in patients with thyroid adenoma and papillary cancer and in healthy people. The finding of suitable peripheral marker could be used in thyroid tumors diagnosis in the future. There was also detected growth factors production by normal thyroid gland and papillary thyroid cancer in a dynamic model of flow tissue culture, under the influence of stimulating substances. The aim was a more detailed understanding of particular growth factors role in a process of thyroid oncogenesis. Growth factors are polypeptides, proteins and glycoproteins with an informative and regulatory function. They have mainly local effects in tissues - autocrine and paracrine. They form an extensive cytokine network in the organism, with complicated synergic and antagonistic linkages. They are not specific for concrete cells, tissues or pathological processes. Many growth factors are products of oncogenes and take part in a process of tumors origin and growth. The most frequently refered growth factors related to thyroid gland tumors are...

Folic acid release from branched and crosslinked oligoester carriers
Hanáková, Pavlína ; Dittrich, Milan (advisor) ; Šnejdrová, Eva (referee)
ABSTRACT-EN In the thesis were demonstrated possibilities for modification of the release period for folic acid incorporated into matrices prepared from poly(DL-lactic acid) branched by mannit or dipentaerythritol. The range of release process duration from two days to 45 days was demonstrated. Process was shortened by increasing concentration of triethylcitrate used as plasticizer of oligoester carrier, the second possibility concentration of branching agent builded into molecule, and the third one was pH of dissolution medium. Prolongation of release of folic acid was achieved by crosslinking agent as additive incorporated into matrices.

Assessed psychological characteristics of human face in depedence on socio-economical status
Linke, Lenka ; Kleisner, Karel (advisor) ; Pivoňková, Věra (referee)
Human face is a complex semantic organ, which among others reflects also human individuality due to the high variance of facial morphologies. This study examines the relationship between psychological characteristics and social status. Moreover, we have analyzed variability in facial form and its relation to a particular social rank. The study was performed on a set of photographs containing 55 pictures of men in a management position. These photographs were evaluated by 47 male (average age - 22 years) and 77 female (average age 21,6 years) respondents. The data were analyzed by means of classical methods of statistical testing as well as geometric morphometrics methods. This study tests whether there is a relation between three psychological characteristics - dominance, attractiveness, trustworthiness - and social status. The effect of perceived dominance and attractiveness on social status were not significant. Nevertheless, we found statistically significant relationship between perceived trustworthiness and social rank. We were not able to detect morphological facial structures, which would distinguish the heads of department from the chief executive directors. However the parametric tests discovered statistically significant differences between the facial morphology of a trustworthy and...
