The role of lobbyist in public policy versus the media image of his activities

The title of this study is "The role of lobbyist in public policy versus the media image of his activities". The thesis focuses on the supposed conflict between the theory of public policy, that confirms the legitimacy of the lobbyist as a person, who can persuade or influence the decision-makers in favour of an interest group and the reports which Czech society recieves through media about the lobbying, that are mostly negative. The qualitative content analysis was chosen for the research and the source of the news is the magor respectable daily in Czech republic Mladá fronta Dnes. The results of the content analysis are compared with the theory and commented by a policymaker, a political scientist and by a journalist.

The diploma thesis deals with the way in which the three most read printed and three most read online media reported on coronavirus in the beginning of its spread in the Czech Republic. Specifically, it monitors whether and to what extent the media outputs from these media on the four selected events coincided with the outputs on these events issued by the Czech Press Office (ČTK) and at the same time whether these media adhered to the principles of objectivity. In the theoretical part, the author analyzes media routines, journalistic ethics and other concepts such as moral panic or self-fulfilling prophecy, with which she also works in the practical part of the theses. For the purposes of the research, the author chose a content analysis and defined four research questions, which she answers through the results of this analysis. In total, she analyzes 149 media outputs and 101 outputs of the Czech Press Office. The conclusions of this work prove that the media used ČTK as a source in only 15 % of cases. Online media referred to it more often. 56 % of the media outlets were similar to the ČTK outlets only in the main announcement. The Dissolution of the Soviet Union and the year 1991 in the contemporary Czech press

The bachelor thesis The Dissolution of the Soviet Union and the year 1991 in the contemporary Czech press aims to describe how the Czech daily newspapers Rude pravo, Mlada fronta Dnes and Lidove noviny reported on the events of 1991 connected with the collapse of the Soviet Union. For this purpose, it uses a qualitative content analysis of news and opinion articles published in the aforementioned newspapers in the period from 1 June to 31 December 1991. The thesis focuses on six key events of 1991: the election of Boris Yeltsin as president of the RSFSR, the dissolution of the Warsaw Pact, the G7 summit in London, the August coup, the Belavezha Accords and the resignation of Mikhail Gorbachev as president of the USSR. Based on the data collected, it describes what aspects of the chosen events the newspapers emphasized, how they portrayed the personalities associated with these events, how they used news agencies and their own foreign correspondents in doing so, and whether they differed in any way in these respects. The thesis also aims to capture part of the Czech media scene in the late 1980s and early 1990s and the impact of the newly acquired press freedom on their coverage of the Soviet Union.
Media portrayal of Andrej Babis in Mladá fronta Dnes, Právo and Lidové noviny

This diploma thesis "Media image of Andreje Babiš in the following newspapers: Mladá fronta DNES, Právo Hospodářské noviny and Lidové noviny in the connotation with the affair of a stork's nest" focuses on issue of the media image of an important public figure, politician and head representative of the most popular party in our republic in the time periods chosen for the purpose of this diploma thesis (May 2016, August 2017 and March 2018). It is a well known fact, that Andrej Babiš purchased, through his company Agrofert certain media, for example Mladá fronta DNES and Lidové noviny, in the year 2013. This diploma thesis is an attempt to portray if a fact of this acquisition had any influence on media image of Andrej Babiš in those newspapers, meaning Mladá fronta DNES and Lidové noviny. This media image is going to be compared with the media image of Andrej Babiš in the same time periods in the newspapers Právo and Hospodářské noviny. Comparison of the media coverage of the World floorball championships in years 2008 a 2018

The thesis entitled Comparison of the media coverage of the World Floorball Championships in years 2008 and 2018 aims to identify and compare the media coverage devoted to these two championships held in the Czech Republic. The goal of the thesis is to determine and compare the media coverage in the two examined media - Mladá fronta DNES, Deník Sport and online servers iDnes.cz and iSport.cz, based on these findings define which direction is the trend going. The diploma thesis is divided into main three parts, in the first theoretical part, key definitions, terms and topics from the media side such as gatekeeping, agenda-setting and news values are gradually introduced. A similar space is also devoted to the sports, more precisely floorball side of the thesis, where important historical milestones of this sport, both Czech and worldwide, are presented. Last but not least, this section offers an introduction of a closer relationship between the media and sport. The bachelor thesis compares media images in the daily newspaper Mladá fronta Dnes in selected annual years. The 1st, 5th, 10th, 25th and 30th anniversaries of the events of the Velvet Revolution were chosen for the purposes of the work. Each of the chapters presents both the content and visual aspect of individual editions in selected historical periods. By outlining the topics and space chosen by the newspaper, which the periodical provided to individual personalities of the era of the Velvet Revolution and events before and after the event, then present a comprehensive media image in the mentioned periods. The thesis is divided into seven chapters. The first offers a brief historical excursion of causal and subsequent events around the Velvet Revolution and a short introduction to the daily Mladá fronta Dnes. The main part of the bachelor thesis are the following chapters, which present individual media images in selected years, in terms of factors that may have influenced the message of the information provided and the agenda settings in the newspaper. Czech and Slovak media representation of the dissolution of Czechoslovakia

The master thesis Czech and Slovak media representation of the dissolution of Czechoslovakia is concerned with the way in which media portrayed the dissolution of Czechoslovakia. Through the analysis of articles on the topic in question it examines the media image created by each newspaper respectively, by Czech and Slovak newspapers as two units and the overall image based on all of the collected data. Three Czech (Mladá fronta DNES, Rudé právo and Blesk) and three Slovak (Smena, Pravda and Nový Čas) newspapers served as the source for the analysis. Articles from two periods were collected - from the time the act on the dissolution of Czechoslovakia was passed and from the time the actual dissolution took place. The aim is to establish the overall media image of the dissolution of Czechoslovakia, but also to compare and contrast the image created by Czech and Slovak newspapers and to study their differences concerning the overall positive, negative or neutral image as well as the implemented media frames. Far-right Parties in Czech Media before 2017 Parliament Elections

Topic of the thesis is the image of Czech far-right parties in Czech media prior to Elections to Chamber of Deputies in 2017. Aim of the thesis is to investigate how media displays far-right parties prior to the Elections in 2017, what the topics of media coverage are in regards of far- right and how the topics changed in the Elections in 2017 comparing with Elections in 2013. Using quantitative content analysis and theory of agenda-setting the thesis monitors texts with far-right topics in national daily newspapers Mladá fronta DNES, Lidové noviny, Právo and Hospodářské noviny in the periods prior to the Elections to Chamber of Deputies in 2017 and 2013. Author also uses qualitative analysis of opinion texts based on theory of framing. The parties followed in thesis are chosen based on definition of far-right by Cas Mudde and definition of right wing populism by Hans-Georg Betz.
