Media Education in grammar school - Objectives and Reality

The diploma thesis "Media Education in grammar school - Objectives and Reality" is focused on the introduction of a new topic in Czech schools - media education - as a part of the new reforms of the education system. The first part of the thesis defines the concept of media literacy in the context of different types of new literacies. Media education presents particular ways of how to increase media literacy. The thesis deals with the historical development of media education, various approaches to the media education movement, conditions abroad and questions under debate of this domain. The first part also illustrates different forms of media education in the Czech Republic, the new reform of media system and its formation, actual status of media education and its conception in mandatory documents. The second part of the thesis is empirical research that used the qualitative method focus group in discussion with students of grammar school. The research was executed in four groups. Students in two of the groups are passing at this moment subject of media issues, students in the other two groups never went over this subject.

The category of competence and its interpretation by teachers in practice

This dissertation deals with issues related to the realization of the concept of key competencies as educational goals which are being brought about by curricular reform. The theoretical component is aimed at researching the way key competencies are treated in the relevant literature and in European and Czech curricular documents. This section deals with the conception and implementation of key competencies in national educational programs in the EU countries. Various procedures in these countries are compared and evaluated in relation to curricular reforms in the Czech Republic and in conjunction with the interpretation of key competencies in the Framework Educational Program for Basic Education. The research component of the dissertation focuses on mapping out the understanding of key competencies on the part of the ‚main players' of curricular reform (teachers, teacher trainers, school inspectors) whose responsibility it is to bring this new concept into pedagogical practice.

Continuity of pre-primary and primary education from the point of view of management of integrated kindergartens and primary schools in the context of Czech curricular reform

The objective of the dissertation thesis are to conduct the first research survey in continuity of pre-primary and primary education from the perspective of management in integrated kindergartens and primary schools in the Czech Republic. It studies school heads' opinions on continuity of pre-primary and primary education in the context of curricular reform an well as how they put this continuity in practice of their schools. The topic of dissertation thesis is defined by school management and curricular reform. The theoretical part focuses on the triad of the following concepts: management, continuity and curricular reform. The concepts are linked to the environment of integrated pre-primary and primary schools. At the same time, the head teacher's role in the specific conditions of this type of school is reflected. The theoretical framework builds on theories from management and pedagogy. The empirical part focuses in more detail on exploring the role of one of the actors in ensuring continuity of pre-primary and primary education, the head of the school. Issue of teaching modern history at elementary and high schools in the Czech Republic

The theme of the presented rigorous thesis is problematics of teaching of modern history in primary and secondary schools in the Czech Republic. The thesis is divided into two main parts. The first part deals with an analysis of legislative frame of educational politics of the Czech Republic with an emphasis on teaching of modern history, analysis and evaluation of curricular documents. Initially, chosen factors which affect the process of teaching are briefly mentioned. Afterwards, a didactic analysis of history textbooks, on the basis of a quantitative research rated as the most common ones, is carried out. The second part of the thesis is focused on utilization of project teaching as a convenient way of motivating, attractive and effective education of primary and secondary school students in the field of modern history. Characteristics of chosen projects realized by schools, memory institutions or nonprofit organizations are given on a theoretical level. In this bachelor thesis it has looked at the topic of Presentation of Secondary schools in the print national newspapers. The aim of theoretical part is to define the area of the Education system in the Czech Republic in the context of vocational education, to describe the curriculum reformation and to specify the influence of media on its surroundings. The method for processing the theoretical part is analysis, synthesis and comparison of gained knowledge based on work with literature. The aim of practical part is to determine the incidence of articles in the field of vocational education for the last three years in national newspapers printed, they contained, the limit-focus and frequency of individual content categories. Analyzed daily newspapers are MF Dnes, Hospodářské noviny, Právo and Blesk (each newspaper is owned by another entity). The method for processing the practical part is the analysis of Secondary school articles published in the national newspapers in the last three years.

Work of the coordinator of school education programme

The thesis offers a comprehensive look at the work of the Coordinator of the school educational programme, his professional and personal prerequisites for the performance of specialized function. In the theoretical part of the work is defined the role of the Coordinator, described the content of his activity and characterized his managerial skills needed to management of creating of the school educational programmes. One part of the work is a description of the activities of the Coordinator in the preparation, formation and implementation of the school educational programme. The empirical part of the thesis includes an analysis of the educational programme entitled: The Coordinator of the school educational programme. By means of interviews with the coordinators of school educational programmes, they were inquired about their experience with the authors of educational programmes and the utilization of knowledge from a preparatory course in real activity. Questionnaire survey was the basis for finding out opinions of the educational programmes creators themselves on the activity of the coordinators.
