The second chapter focuses on the competencies of special educational needs teachers and on further development of these competencies. The probands included in this survey were both special educational needs teachers and their supervisors in the Strakonice region. We found out which requirements special educational needs teachers have to meet, ranging from personality traits to education. We encountered some concurrence as well as differences among the probands in their opinions on the employment of recent graduates and on the possibilities of developing one's skills, self-reflection, and self-knowledge. The emphasis is on the importance of various skills and abilities that special educational needs teachers must possess.
