Abstract: This thesis focuses on the significance and role of the school counseling centre in the context of modern education. Its main objective is to analyze and evaluate in detail the functioning of the school counseling centre at a specific school in Prague through a combination of theoretical knowledge and empirical research. The work is divided into two parts - the theoretical part and the practical part. The theoretical part examines the development and current state of counseling in education, its principles, and approaches. Emphasis is placed on presenting the roles of individual members of the school counseling centre and their importance in supporting students in various areas of their lives and learning. The practical part of the work deals with a specific analysis of the operation and functioning of the school counseling center at a selected Prague school. The conducted empirical study utilizes qualitative methodology. The results of this analysis are subsequently presented with the aim of identifying strengths and opportunities for improvement in the work of the school counseling office. Based on the findings, specific recommendations and strategies are proposed for optimizing the services provided by the counseling center to achieve better support for students and their needs.
