Vančurová, Kateřina ; Trunečková, Ludmila (advisor) ; Francová, Pavla (referee)
The diploma thesis "The Influence of Agency News from the Czech News Agency on the Content of Foreign News Sections in Periodicals" is focused on the thematic a geopolitical focus of the foreign news sections of Czech national dailies in comparison with the agency service of the Czech Newa Agency (CTK). The thesis strives to answer the question, how similar they are. At the same time, work with sources is compared. The theoretical basis for this thesis lies in the theorie of gatekeeping, news values and agenda setting. Two month-long periods were analyzed in the thesis, with emphasis on the comparability of the work with sources. March 2012, a so-called usual month with no expected events of big importance, was compared to the period between 20 October and 20 November 2012, when presidential elections went on in the United States of America. Three hypotheses were determined; of them, two were confirmed and one partially disproved. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
Photojournalism after Digitalization: State of Photojournalism in the Czech Republic
Lábová, Sandra ; Silverio, Robert (advisor) ; Nilsson, Maria Elisabeth (referee) ; Allan, Stuart (referee)
This dissertation undertakes ethnographic research to examine photojournalism in the Czech Republic comprehensively. It builds on the importance of news images in the media representation of reality while considering the authenticity of photography. It stresses photojournalists' role in gatekeeping decision-making and discusses the challenges they face in the evolving media market and developing technology. The research employs qualitative and quantitative methods to examine four dimensions of current photojournalist practice in the Czech Republic: professional identity, production process, ethical standards, and working conditions in light of rising competition. Key findings show passionate and dedicated professionals facing challenges in digitalization and limited resources. Respondents prioritize authenticity and autonomy but highlight the concerns about the underrepresentation of photo departments and the impact of competition in photojournalism. Nevertheless, they express high job satisfaction, viewing their profession as prestigious and rewarding. This research sets a foundation for future longitudinal studies of Czech photojournalists by providing arguments for several concerns, such as gender disparity, technological advancements, and audience perception of visual narratives.
The popularity growth of sport climbing demonstrated on media coverage of Adam Ondra
Hübsch, Dan ; Trunečka, Ondřej (advisor) ; Turková, Kateřina (referee)
The bachelor thesis deals with the transformation of the reporting on sport climbing by three major Czech sports news sites Sport.cz, iSport.cz, and the sports section of iDNES.cz demonstrated on media coverage of the Czech climber Adam Ondra - a multiple medalist from the world and European championships, an Olympic participant, and the first person to climb the highest difficulty route ever achieved - considered to be the current best climber in the world. The theoretical part of the thesis encompasses, in addition to the profile of the observed athlete, the concept of gatekeeping and the related theory of news values which are subsequently applied to sports media and used in the analytical part. The thesis aims to capture the development associated with the transformation of reporting on Adam Ondra, and thus, on sport climbing as well. The purpose of the thesis is based on the hypothesis that the number of published articles is going to increase during the period under review due to Ondra's achievements. And that is going to be proven.
The agenda/role of news writers in radio broadcast, case study of Český rozhlas Radiožurnál
Gálová, Gabriela ; Nečas, Vlastimil (advisor) ; Groman, Martin (referee)
In this master thesis I focus on the news presenters at the public broadcaster Radiožurnál which is part of Czech Radio. My aim is to map their role in the station's broadcasting and to describe the factors that influence them in the processes of the selection of news and the compilation of news reports. I will also try to define the positions that are involved in the creation of the entire newscast. The main theoretical concept of the whole thesis is gatekeeping. I will also present possible organizational structures of newsrooms, the definition of journalism profession or the anchoring of Czech Radio in the Czech media system. The research part is based on the analysis of twenty semi-structured interviews with news presenters and staff of the central newsroom. In the thesis I answer the question of how the news coverage of the Radiožurnál station is produced. I also look at the role of news presenters in terms of professional requirements and the degree of journalistic autonomy. Finally, I analyse the factors that influence news presenters in their work in terms of media organization, media routines and individual level.
The manifestations of technological determinism on the selection of news topics in ČT24 and ČRo Radiožurnál
Bečková, Kateřina ; Jirků, Jan (advisor) ; Trunečka, Ondřej (referee)
The diploma thesis entitled The manifestations of technological determinism on the selection of news topics in ČT24 and ČRo Radiožurnál seeks an answer whether the choice of news topics in TV and radio is influenced by the available technologies in each of the media, and whether they eventually choose different events to cover. The theoretical part describes concepts of gatekeeping, news values and also technological determinism. In the practical part then the author analysed three days in broadcast of the chosen media, in each it was two-hour segments around the main news at noon and in the evening. Selected topics, that ČT24 had and Radiožurnál did not, have been later analysed by semiotic analyses in order to find whether the visuals were the factor why the event was not presented by the radio. Context of the findings were given by six semi-structured interviews with journalists form both radio and television. From all the data obtained, it is evident that the television had dozens of topics more per day, caused by the time space given to the news reporting. Unlike Český rozhlas Radiožurnál, ČT24 focused significantly on the visual side of events, which could be the reason why editorial board may reject a topic proposed by the reporters.
The Influence of the Partnership on the Father's role
Chomiszaková, Alexandra ; Presslerová, Pavla (advisor) ; Valentová, Hana (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to study and better understand the experience of fathers in how their partner helps shape their role as a father. The theoretical part describes changes in the concept of fatherhood that we observe in society, as well as ways of conceptualising fatherhood and the influence of the female partner. The constructs of co-parenting and gatekeeping are explained in connection with the influence of the female partner and parenthood as other potential approaches to grasping and understanding the phenomenon of fatherhood. The empirical part presents the results of qualitative research, which was carried out with the use of interpretive phenomenological analysis and semi-structured interviews. The topics that emerge from the analysis are the answers to the research question. The topic of partnership, especially its quality and mutual closeness, appears to be essential. This is further reflected in the fathers' self-evaluation as well as the level of the fatherhood experience. Another important area is the division of roles and competencies, which is influenced by whether the female partner has a traditional or liberal approach to parenting. Communication, which is a reflection but also a product of a partnership, is also an essential factor. The partner's influence is also evident in...
