Žibřidová, Alena ; Drápal, Jakub (advisor) ; Richter, Martin (referee)
Intervention (the In-Person Presence) of the Public Prosecutor During Trial in the Czech Context Abstract The public prosecutor, although long over-looked by doctrinal and empirical research, is a vital element that guides the dynamics and the outcome of criminal proceedings. Nevertheless, prosecutorial intervention (the in-person presence) during trial has not yet been theoretically explored or empirically studied. Therefore, we do not know whether prosecutors approach this subject in a principled and consistent manner, with respect to its original purpose. Based on theoretical premises, I first analyse the elements that influence the role of the public prosecutor, and then I apply these to the Czech criminal justice system. I conclude that, regarding the conceptual role of the Czech prosecutor, which prosecutor attends the court hearing is significant. I then propose a theoretical framework, which reflects both the purpose of the institute of intervention and the specifics of the prosecutor's role during trial. In the empirical section of this master's thesis, I explore the practices adopted at district prosecutors' offices across the prosecution system. For this purpose, I develop four research questions that are directed both (i) at the level of the public prosecution service and (ii) at the practice...

The Political Character of Constitutional Review
Juhás, Juraj ; Gerloch, Aleš (advisor) ; Kosař, David (referee) ; Kühn, Zdeněk (referee)
in the English language: The Political Character of Constitutional Review. In this thesis, we tried to find out whether constitutional review in the Czech Republic has at least partially a political character. In the Czech Republic, constitutional review is exercised by the Constitutional Court in two types of proceedings: (a) proceedings on derogation of statutes and other regulations (laws) and (b) proceedings on constitutional complaints against decisions or other interferences of public authorities in constitutionally guaranteed fundamental rights or freedoms. In proceedings on derogation of laws, we found that judicial decision-making behaviour has at least partially a political character. The reason is, in particular, that (a) judges decide in favour of proposals for derogation of laws filed by legislators (deputies or senators) of the same political affiliation as the judges' appointing president more often than when the legislator's political affiliation is the opposite; (b) ideological assessment of the analysed decisions shows that ideological aspects of the decision-making of judges significantly correlate with the presumed ideology of their appointing president. Moreover, the differences in judicial activism are smaller than the differences between legislators of opposite political...

Grammatical gender - a Czech-Hungarian experimental comparison
Červenková, Michaela ; Januška, Jiří (advisor) ; Křivan, Jan (referee)
This work, Grammatical gender - a Czech-Hungarian experimental comparison deals with the existence of the grammatical gender in language and its influence on the conceptualization of the inanimate objects of its speakers. Its goal is, through carrying out an experiment on Czech language (that means on a language with grammatical gender) and on Hungarian language (that means on a language without grammatical gender) to verify the assumption, that the Czech native speakers would focus on the grammatical gender while responding, unlike the Hungarian native speakers, whose language does not have grammatical gender. For this purpose, two methods are used. In one of them the respondents have to assign a voice to given inanimate objects (either male or female) or as the case may be, they have to assign a first name. The data was collected through an online questionary. The results of the research verified the previous assumption, that means the influence of grammatical gender on the responses of the Czech native speakers. Except for that, the results also brought findings about Hungarian native speakers' responses, who often focused on the first letter of the name of the given object while responding. This work also contains summary of literature about up to date experimental research of grammatical...

Language management of selected phenomena in Common Czech
Benešová, Martina ; Nekvapil, Jiří (advisor) ; Havlík, Martin (referee)
(in English) Language management of selected phenomena in Common Czech The purpose of this bachelor thesis is to find out, whether the phenomena of Common Czech are being influenced by language management, when it happens and to which extent. To a major extent, the work is of an empirical character. The major theoretical and methodological sources are the book by James Wilson Moravians in Prague and article by Jiří Neustupný Sociolingvistika a jazykový management. The major objective of the work is to link the methodology with the theoretical findings in the areas of language management and variation sociolinguistics. The book by Wilson will serve as a source of information for the sociolinguistic part. For the analysis, I have selected the same linguistic phenomena as Wilson did, in particular the following ones: A) phonological ones: 1) V-insertion; 2) É-raising; 3) Ý-diphtongization and B) grammatical ones: 4) paradigm unification (by third, fourth and fifth verb class); 5) L-truncation (by first and second verb class); 6) gender neutralisation. These selected phenomena will be studied based on the language used by the lecturers during their lectures of non-linguistic subjects of study at the Faculty of Philosophy of the Charles University in Prague (FF UK). The following methodological approach...
Probe into religious Life in the Czech Republic (The Kladno town example)
Lapková, Eliška ; Czumalo, Vladimír (advisor) ; Zoufalá, Marcela (referee)
Probe into religious life in the Czech Republic would certainly be beneficial for the Czech sociology and religious studies, her research and treatment would not necessarily have to be based on several years of research activity. Due to the type of work I have therefore decided to focus on selected Czech city whose religious life might yield representative results. The task was daunting. The main stumbling block appeared to be time-consuming and the amount of data required for processing. The entire probe is based on socio-anthropological empirical research to not even bring religionistic theological knowledge, although it is clear that their job does not shirk. In culturologistic context is the focus of interest in the work of churches and religious associations as a subculture, their inner and outer life, forms of communication with the urban community and defining against her and against other religious groups. In this context attention is paid to the question of how different religious groups perceived their predominantly atheistic environment. Processed results should bring both the synthetic evaluation of the religious life of the city selected as the more general conclusions about the importance and possibilities of life in contemporary Czech society and last but not least, the conclusions...
