Relationship between posttraumatic growth and coping processes of healthy siblings of children with disabilities

This thesis is focused on the current concept of coping with stressful situations and the concept of posttraumatic growth of healthy siblings of disabled children. The first part of this thesis deals with stressful situations throughout the life of healthy sibling. The work describes the ways of coping with difficult life situations as well as coping strategies oriented to the future (proactive coping). It also focuses on the positive effects of this experience within the concept of posttraumatic growth. The empirical part presents the data obtained from nine respondents. There were used these methods: interview, narrative inspired by life-story, questionnaire PTGI-CZ and PCI questionnaire. The data were elaborated by means of qualitative and quantitative methods. The aim of the thesis was to identify the coping strategies used by siblings and identify potential posttraumatic growth. The most considerable development was reflected in the areas of "appreciation of life" and "personal growth". The most helpful coping strategies were considered to be positive thinking and positive reappraisal of a situation. We believe that these research findings might be helpful in counselling for siblings or in the area of psychotherapy.
Psychological aspects of assessing diagnosis in a child with disabilities from parental viewpoint

This bachelor thesis deals with the parents of the medically disabled children, in fact with the impact of the diagnosis on their psychology. This bachelor thesis is divided in two parts. The theoretical part is aimed at the parenthood and partnership. Furthermore, it describes the family of the disabled child and individual stages of their putting up with the demanding life situation. It characterizes four kinds of health disabilities which can be seen in chldren's families who were interviewed. The practical part describes the quality research itself which was aimed at the parents of the disabled child. The research is based on the semi-structured interviews which were led with four fathers and three mothers. The main aim appears to be the pointing out of the unique attitude of the mothers and fathers going through the psychological hardships of the diagnosis process of their children.
Family support after the birth of a child with a disability

This diploma thesis deals with the topic of possible family support after the birth of a child with a disability. The work is divided into theoretical and practical part. In the theoretical part, a literary search was created, based on Czech and foreign professional literature. In the practical part, the research questions were evaluated within the created questionnaire, intended for families of children with disabilities, conclusions and recommendations for practice were formulated. Siblings of people with an impairment and his position in family

This thesis discusses the topic of siblings of individuals with disabilities and their position in the family. The theoretical part aims to define family and its functions, specifics of a parent-child relationship, different kinds of nurturing of a child and also discusses the role of an intact sibling in the family with a child with disability. The second part of the theoretical chapter talks about the place of the child with special needs in the family and in the educational environment, presents different attitudes towards inclusive education, defines the disabilities that are relevant for our further research and presents specifics of living with a child with disability from the point of view of the intact sibling. The main aim of the research was to find out how the siblings themselves reflect on the impact of living with a child with disability on their own development and their future. This thesis was based on literature analysis and qualitative research with elements of grounded theory. The main research technique was an analysis of literature and unstructured interviews with five young adult siblings of individuals with disabilities. Family life with a child with Down syndrome

The bachelor's thesis deals with four families of children with Down syndrome. The purpose of the theoretical part is to tell the readers basic information about Down syndrome. It's about history, origin, and forms are described in this study. Furthermore, the study addresses to prenatal diagnostic testing, people with Down syndrome and their characteristic features, families and social services supporting these families. The possibilities of educations are also mentioned in this study. The practical part is based on qualitative research and contains two research tools such as interviews and case studies. Case studies refer to the basic information of these people with Down syndrome, and interviews show what life with such a child looks like.
