Issue of teaching modern history at elementary and high schools in the Czech Republic

The theme of the presented rigorous thesis is problematics of teaching of modern history in primary and secondary schools in the Czech Republic. The thesis is divided into two main parts. The first part deals with an analysis of legislative frame of educational politics of the Czech Republic with an emphasis on teaching of modern history, analysis and evaluation of curricular documents. Initially, chosen factors which affect the process of teaching are briefly mentioned. Afterwards, a didactic analysis of history textbooks, on the basis of a quantitative research rated as the most common ones, is carried out. The second part of the thesis is focused on utilization of project teaching as a convenient way of motivating, attractive and effective education of primary and secondary school students in the field of modern history. Characteristics of chosen projects realized by schools, memory institutions or nonprofit organizations are given on a theoretical level. The practical part is then dedicated to the characteristics, detailed methodical treatment and evaluation of my own authorial project Memories of the 1980s in Czechoslovakia that was created under the auspices of the National Museum's project Touch the 20th century!. Work of the coordinator of school education programme

The thesis offers a comprehensive look at the work of the Coordinator of the school educational programme, his professional and personal prerequisites for the performance of specialized function. In the theoretical part of the work is defined the role of the Coordinator, described the content of his activity and characterized his managerial skills needed to management of creating of the school educational programmes. One part of the work is a description of the activities of the Coordinator in the preparation, formation and implementation of the school educational programme. The empirical part of the thesis includes an analysis of the educational programme entitled: The Coordinator of the school educational programme. By means of interviews with the coordinators of school educational programmes, they were inquired about their experience with the authors of educational programmes and the utilization of knowledge from a preparatory course in real activity. Questionnaire survey was the basis for finding out opinions of the educational programmes creators themselves on the activity of the coordinators. Reflection opinions of management on the development of school education system in the Czech Republic

Thesis on Reflection opinions of management schools in the development of the education system in the Czech Republic traces the development of Czech education from the perspective of headmasters of primary and nursery schools in Prague 8, who manages the school with legal personality. It deals with the major determinants moments - social transformation, economic reform, curriculum reform, legislative changes that affected the environment of Czech education over more than twenty years. Detailed mapping the environment through competence and responsibility, opinions, attitudes and actions insight into six areas - personal characteristics of school principals, education reform, curriculum reform, school culture and school cooperation with parents and pupils, the area professionally - personal development directors from the perspective of moral dilemmas that accompanied the work of directors for more than twenty years. Drama in English Language Teaching

The dissertation focuses on the possibilities of drama in English language teaching in the second stage of basic education. The objective was to contribute to the development of ELT methodology in the Czech environment and to try to critically define the possibilities of drama education as an approach to instruction in this field. The starting points of this dissertation are based on social constructivism, accent the principle of holistic learning, and stem from the demands for changes in education in connection with the curricular reform of the education system that is currently underway. Apart from a terminological analysis, the theoretical part of the dissertation also contains a detailed introduction to the teaching strategies of drama education and their application in English language teaching. The goal of the empirical part was to find the beliefs of a cohort of teachers from primary schools and of English Studies students at the Faculty of Education regarding the possibility of using drama in English language teaching. The category of competence and its interpretation by teachers in practice

This dissertation deals with issues related to the realization of the concept of key competencies as educational goals which are being brought about by curricular reform. The theoretical component is aimed at researching the way key competencies are treated in the relevant literature and in European and Czech curricular documents. This section deals with the conception and implementation of key competencies in national educational programs in the EU countries. Various procedures in these countries are compared and evaluated in relation to curricular reforms in the Czech Republic and in conjunction with the interpretation of key competencies in the Framework Educational Program for Basic Education. The research component of the dissertation focuses on mapping out the understanding of key competencies on the part of the ‚main players' of curricular reform (teachers, teacher trainers, school inspectors) whose responsibility it is to bring this new concept into pedagogical practice.

TITLE: Students' Attitudes Towards Chemistry According to the Secondary School They Attend AUTHOR: PhDr. Martin Rusek DEPARTMENT: Katedra chemie a didaktiky chemie SUPERVISOR: prof. RNDr. Pavel Beneš, CSc. ABSTRACT: The research presented in this thesis completes the data with the information about so far neglected vocational schools students' attitudes towards chemistry. After the curricular reform, impact put on general education, including chemistry, brings considerable changes in this area. The questionnaire used was focused on three spheres: students' attitudes towards chemistry, didactical facilities used in chemistry education and students' attitudes towards particular chemical topics. The questionnaire was submitted to students (N = 959) at the beginning of the school year after they entered secondary school. That way the results reflect students' attitudes constructed at primary schools. The results show negative students' attitudes. They are mostly affected by the difficulty of the subject and also by students' low interest in the topics. It was also proved that topics close to students' lives play a vital role. Communication competences in kindergarten curriculum

The thesis focuses on a concept of communicative competences in the curricula at the stage of pre-school education and introduces the possibilities of development of these competences in kindergarten. The theoretical part outlines issues of curriculum, key competences and communicative competences in the context of pre-primary education. The research is a presentation of qualitative-quantitative research, which aimed to analyze the concept of communicative competences in the curricula of kindergartens and based on direct observation to find out, how kindergarten teachers meet the communicative competences at this stage of education, how to diagnose them and what opportunities provides kindergarten environment to develop pre-school children communication competences. Based on the analysis of curriculum documents of selected kindergartens we found that schools include communicative competences in their conceptual materials and attach great importance to them, even if these documents have different content and formal level. Role of school libraries in development of media literacy in the Czech Republic

This diploma thesis examines the possibilities of involving school librarians and information specialists in the process of growth in media literacy at Czech schools. The theoretical part of the thesis briefly introduces the general issues of media education and media literacy in our country and abroad, while the practical part of the thesis based on its own research, focuses on a particular target group - Prague secondary schools ("gymnázium"). Using a questionnaire and five case studies conducted at selected secondary schools in Prague, it conducts a survey of the current situation of implementation of media education in the Czech Republic. The end of the thesis deals with some ideas of how to involve graduates of the Institute of Information Studies and Librarianship in teaching media education according to the American model of a "teacher librarian".
Education through the Geography in Curricular Reformation Period of Czech Education System: Reflection of the Changes at Selected Prague's Grammar Schools

The thesis, as the title suggests, focuses on education of Geography and analysis of Geography as a subject at Prague grammar schools. The aim of the thesis is to evaluate the impact of curricular changes on teaching Geography. Furthermore, the thesis is to analyze the ideas of the Geography teachers on teaching methods and content taught to students in their lessons. The work also evaluates the variety of opinions of the pedagogues concerning this topic. It also discusses their different views on a new form of the state leaving exam. Moreover, it looks for the answer whether the new exam might change the methodology of Geography. This work is mainly based on a critical evaluation of expert materials as far as the school reform is concerned. The empirical part itself consists of the survey results and the assessment of directed interviews with 11 respondents, who are the Geography teachers at nine Prague grammar schools.
