Manipulation of children in the prose of Aldous Huxley and George Orwell
Linhart, Marek ; Clark, Colin Steele (referee) ; Wallace, Clare (advisor)
The focus of this thesis are two of the most prominent specimen of utopian literature, namely George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four and Aldous Huxley's Brave New World. Despite the fact that Brave New World, which was published in 1932, predates Nineteen Eighty-Four by seventeen years and was written in a quite different social and political climate, both these books share many important elements. While depicting vastly different societies with diverse structures of power distribution, they both express certain fears and worries that their respective authors had about the future of civilisation, which is why they were chosen as primary texts for this thesis. More specifically, the main area of discourse is going to be the treatment of children and their relation to the state as depicted in these books. In this field, both Orwell's Oceania and Huxley's World State share the same objective, which is to turn children and the young generation in general into an obedient tool to be at the system's disposal. This aim is very prominent for many reasons in both books, but the results are the same; children willingly submit themselves fully to the state and become one of the major means the state possesses to achieve its goals. The degree of control over children both in Brave New World and Nineteen Eighty- Four is...

Raková, Zdeňka ; Dvořák, Petr (advisor) ; Prokop, Martin (referee)
Constantly increasing household debt is becoming frequently discussed topic. The main aim of this thesis is to analyse the development and structure of household debt in the Czech Republic and its comparison with household debt in Austria and with households in other EU countries and Eurozone, respectively. The analysis of sources and laws connected with this issue and especially analysis of regularly reported data of noted countries serve to achieve the aim of the thesis. The first part of the thesis is focusing on definition of terms related to this issue such as credit, loan, mortgage loan, regular and bridge loan, consumer credit, leasing and APR. The second part deals with analysis of debts in the Czech Republic and Austria. First, the size of total debt is examined and then the attention is paid to development and structure of debt from different points of view (creditors, purpose, currency and maturity). The last part discusses the position of the Czech Republic and Austria from the point of view of other households within the EU countries and Eurozone, respectively.

Product Placement - the Theoretical Base
Souralová, Ladislava ; Kallista, Jaromír (advisor) ; Myslík, Václav (referee)
Bachelor thesis ?Product Placement ? the Theoretical Base? engages in one of possible tools for financing film projects. The reason for its creation was the lack of professional literature about this theme in the czech language, so its goal is to create coherent theoretical base to this problem in czech. Another goal was to make producers familiar with the point of view of the other part of this process, ie marketing manager. The thesis is divided into six chapters. At first I make the reader familiar with several product placement definitions and history of its use. Then I describe various formas and types of product placement including the outline of all possible medias to be used for product placement. In next chapter I analyse conditions and circumstances of product placement use, which must be, more or less, respected to avoid complications. In chapter five I mention types of possible contracts and in the last chapter I concern about branded entertainment, which includes product placement.

Taylor Rule and Its Macroeconomics Relations
Mičúch, Marek ; Chytil, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Kupka, Martin (referee) ; Sedláček, Petr (referee)
Despite considerable research on the monetary policy rules, little is known about internal relation between policy rules targets. Research approach frequently consists in estimating parameters or identifying variables to make the rule operate accurately. The overall image that emerges from the literature is that there is no contradiction in attaining the targets once set properly. Dissertation switches attention to mutual feasibility of incorporated targets. To contribute to this strikingly overlooked fact hypothesis is tested. Analyzed are variances of inflation and output representing policy rule targets. Time regression processed throughout OLS technique, gap analysis and calculation of variances are applied as principal analytical tools. Examined are data for 14 countries. Countries are divided into two groups according to size of their economy: small economies (Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Hungary, Ireland, The Nederlands and Slovak Republic); large economies (Euro zone, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Sweden and USA). Results of the analysis show that once monetary authority follows policy rule with multiple targets it faces restriction. Rather than achieving both targets at one time it must respect trade off between them. According to data for selected countries hypothesis is accepted. Variances of output consistently proved to be higher than variances of inflation. Whence it follows that authority need to solve constrained optimization problem. It needs to pick out combination of differently large variances contrary to wining with all reaching low levels.

Advertising in Arabic media
Al Hamatiová, Arwa ; Ondráš, František (advisor) ; Oliverius, Jaroslav (referee)
My diploma thesis deals with the analysis of advertising in Arabic media, in particular in Arabic TV stations, such as MBC1, MBC2 and Dubai One. It is based on structuring advertising with respect to content and aim of the statement, i. e. classifying advertising either as product advertisement, image advertising, or social advertising. The thesis studies the advertising style in the fields of lexicology, morphology, and syntax; it however looks also at promotional strategy and persuasion methods. Arabic TV stations broadcast advertisements intended for global promotion, as well as advertisements focusing on the Arabic world and its public. In these advertisements manifests, a range of specific features rooted in culture and religion appears. The paper also deals with the issue of manipulation and deception in advertising, where they are used as one of the persuasion methods. My diploma thesis is based on the stated literature, on advertisements themselves (particularly on TV), on web pages, and also on discussions with people working in advertising. The thesis includes a DVD containing TV advertisements, which makes it possible for the reader to see for himself the advertisements which are being analyzed.

The world of Harry Potter translated into Czech and Slovak
Miššíková, Martina ; Josek, Jiří (advisor) ; Podaný, Richard (referee)
This study provides a description of the translation techniques applied to the translation of culturally significant phenomena in the Harry Potter series into Czech and Slovak. The analysis extends to the first three boo ks of the Harry Potter series by British author J. K. Rowling and their translations into Czech and Slovak. The theoretical framework is derived from the views of Finnish scholar R. Oittinen (2000) on the translation of children's literature; the translation techniques used to analyze the translations are taken from Molina&Albir (2002). Chapter 1 discusses Harry Potter from the point of view of literary theory. It reviews the different traditions (Anglo-American, Czech, Slovak) in defining and describing fantasy literature and fantasy for children. In the Czech and Slovak literary contexts, there is a tendency to view works similar to Harry Potter as fairy tales with fantastic elements. Chapter 2 reviews the field of translation studies with respect to translation of children's literature. It develops the thesis introduced by the skopos theory which views changes as an inherent part of the trans lati on proces s. Hence, in children' s literature, the changes needed to accommodate the target language reader are considered part of the translator' s strategy and a sign of the translator' s...

Dvořáková, Lucie ; Reschová, Jana (advisor) ; Syllová, Jindřiška (referee)
MODIFICATIONS OF CONSTITUTIONAL LAW IN RELATION TO THE ACCESSION OF THE CZECH REPUBLIC TO THE EUROPEAN UNION ABSTRACT The accession of the Czech Republic to the European Union was certainly one of the most important moments in the development of Czech legal order. The impact of this step may be seen in every branch of law - including constitutional law. The large number of publications on this issue indicates that the changes of constitutional law are an important issue in the Czech academic society. Yet, the literature is mostly fragmentary and mainly oriented at only some of the problems. This thesis tries to gather all the important changes in the branch of constitutional law, which occurred in relation to the Czech Republic's accession to EU. As the constitutional law is a very broad topic, the focus is laid on its institutional part and on the role of member states (and its institutions) within the EU. This thesis consists of an introduction, four chapters (which are further divided with respect to the single topics), and a final conclusion. In introduction, the focus of the thesis and basic questions are defined. Chapter One briefly follows the process of the Czech Republic's accession to the EU. Chapter Two deals with the position of Member States within the EU. It touches on issues such as the...
