The role of SDS in the events of the 1960s in Germany
Skotnicová, Anita ; Šmidrkal, Václav (advisor) ; Kučera, Rudolf (referee)
The 1960s were marked by a large number of demonstrations in the Western world, mostly attended by students. The increased civic activity of the young generation first appeared in the US when students protested against the war in Vietnam. In the Federal Republic of Germany, the events in Vietnam also belonged to important topics, but at the same time long-term problems of the society escalated too. There have been changes at both political and cultural levels. In the second half of the 1960s, a series of stormy demonstrations took place in Germany over this constellation. This thesis focuses on the "Socialist German Student Union" (SDS), which became the imaginary engine of the student protest movement of the 1960s. At the beginning, the work presents a global context, then the main topics and milestones of the development in Germany in the political, social and cultural spheres. Secondly, the development of the SDS is outlined, with an emphasis on the main themes of the association. Then, the course of the demonstrations in the 1960s, SDS activity and the subsequent development after 1969 is analyzed. Finally the work offers an evaluation of SDS success in advancing its long-term goals in the 1960s.

Vaněček, Michal ; Syřiště, Ivo (advisor) ; Blažková, Veronika (referee) ; Prokop, Jiří (referee)
of English I chose the topic "Czech school in the Protectorate" for my Doctoral thesis. The history of the Second world war bellongs to my long interest. My goal was to create a popular - educational publication for student teachers. I never met with this part of history of our school in the Faculty of Education and in the Philosophical Faculty of Charles University. I hope it's very important to remind this part of history - dificult situation of teachers and students during the Nazi era to current students. This sadly topic could raise future teachers to love the profession and could raise the prestige of teachers in our country. My wish would be after reading this work to increase patriotism, love and respect fot the history of our school. I described individual school protectorate years with the introductional into the Protectorate Education. At the beginning of each school year I described the basic historical milestones. I wanted to capture the humiliation of our education system during the Protectorate compared to the high level of pre - war years, dishonor Czech teachers, pupils, students and progressive germanizacion. I took advantage memories of witnesses for readability and catchiness readers. I tried to create text with elements of experiential learning. I believe that experiential...

Demonstrations as an illustrative tool in chemistry education
Hájková, Zdeňka ; Šmejkal, Petr (advisor) ; Klečková, Marta (referee) ; Nižňanský, Daniel (referee)
Demonstrations are considered an important illustrative tool in chemistry education. Quite often teachers use demonstrations of experiments and multimedia demonstrations. Besides, "non-experimental" demonstrations might also be useful, such as material models and demonstrations based on macroscopic analogy that can be usually carried out only with household items and materials. This dissertation is especially aimed at selecting appropriate demonstrations, at their design, development and use of "non-experimental" demonstrations. Moreover, special attention was paid to the interdisciplinary demonstrations concerning the nanoworld, so called "nanodemonstrations". All "nanodemonstrations" presented are safe, cheap and rather timesaving. Furthermore, they can be carried out in a form of lecture and / or students' demonstration. Newly created as well as adopted (and modified) "nanodemonstrations" were collected into the Czech database of "nanodemonstrations". The database was additionally accompanied with following educational materials concerning "nano": two PowerPoint presentations, worksheets that supplement students' "nanodemonstrations" and worksheets with interdisciplinary tasks. This thesis also deals with the evaluation of "nanodemonstrations" and worksheets in secondary school classes. The...
The Genealogy of the Plzeň Revolt on June 1, 1953: An Analysis of Public Collective Protests of the Plzeň City Population in the Years 1948-1953
Šlouf, Jakub ; Randák, Jan (advisor) ; Kopeček, Michal (referee) ; Křesťan, Jiří (referee)
The presented dissertation thesis analyzes one of the largest protests of the Czechoslovak Stalinism-era - the Plze revolt against the currency reform in June 1953. From a conceptual perspective, the work draws on the theory of the so-called new social movements. Therefore it sets the well-known Plze incident into the context of previous protest actions that occurred in the Plze region in the course of the years 1948-1953. This method enables the author to chart the development of several varied protest cultures which had been employed in particular parts of society in Western Bohemia on a long term basis and which inspired the inception and the course of the Plze revolt in the year 1953. This way the work offers not only a considerably more precise critical description of the June protests but also their cultural genealogy. By the means of this genealogy the author reveals the structure of the main social movements that took part in the revolt and an associated complex of social conflicts that caused the protests. There were in particular the following three: a socially-motivated strike movement of industrial blue-collars, a pro-western movement of both student and blue-collar youth and a latent tension within the communist party which was becoming evident through a passive resistance of its rank...
