Dvořáčková, Věra ; Oliva, Karel (advisor) ; Míšková, Alena (referee) ; Uhlířová, Ludmila (referee)
This year the Institute of the Czech Language AS CR (Ustav pro jazyk cesky AV CR) is celebrating the 100th anniversary of foundation of its direct predecessor, the Office of the Dictionary of the Czech Language (Kancelar Slovniku jazyka ceskeho, KSJC) which provided the administrative background for an ambitious lexicographic project launched already in 1905 by the committee for lexicography and dialectology the Czech Academy of Emperor Franz Joseph for sciences, literature and art, to become the Czech Academy for Sciences and Art (CAVU) in 1918. Although much was done between the wars to establish a state-funded language institute, i.e. an institution which would unify the all-encompassing research of language and systematic work with the national language, for financial reasons the Czech Language Institute was established only in 1946. Six years later, the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences (CSAV) was founded and incorporated, among others, the Institute of the Czech Language. During the years, the structure of the Institute underwent various changes which were not merely a response to linguistic needs but also to the events of the time relating to the strengthening of the totalitarian communist power. Top Communist Party officials often interfered with personnel matters of the Institute and...

Lehečková Neumannová, Jana ; Míšková, Alena (advisor) ; Koura, Petr (referee)
This diploma thesis examines the Czechoslovak-British relations between 1945 and 1948 primarily by analysing documents found in the Archive of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic. The thesis focuses on the politico-diplomatic relations and describes their evolution with regards to events of major importance to both involved countries; such as parliamentary elections, the question of German population transfer, or the attitude of Czechoslovakia and the United Kingdom towards the Marshall Plan. The thesis is divided into six chapters and spans the conception of the Czechoslovak foreign policy, based on cooperation with the East, as well as the West; the evolution of the bilateral relations, which were influenced by, inter alia, parliamentary elections in both countries; and the mutual foreign visits. The post-war period is being examined until February 1948 when the change in political regime resulted in deterioration of the bilateral relations between the two countries.
Political Trial with "Leaders of illegal anti-state Group KDS" in 1955 and related Trials
Tilsch, Jan ; Míšková, Alena (advisor) ; Pehr, Michal (referee) ; Svoboda, Libor (referee)
Main Content of this Work is to describe in detail Part of political Trials in Czechoslovakia during the first Part of 1950's, focused against political Opponents coming from Czechoslovak People's Party (ČSL) or Roman Catholic. The Topic - political Trial with "Leaders of illegal anti-state Group Christian-Democratic Party (KDS)" in 1955 and related Trials - is almost unprocessed. The Goal of this Work is to sketch long-lasting "crusade", managed by the communist Power, against "virtual political Entity KDS". This "crusade" should culminate by public political Trial with Leaders of KDS. I'd like to focus on Secret state Police (StB) and its searching of Leaders of KDS, showing the Mechanism of anti-state Groups' Construction too. During the final Part I'd like to show continuance of struggle against other Groups of KDS after the Year 1955 until 1960's and introduce real activities of KDS' Leaders.
To study in Germany
Stuláková, Klára ; Hnilica, Jiří (advisor) ; Míšková, Alena (referee)
This bachelor thesis focuses on higher education in Germany from the view of Czechoslovak students. Time scope of the thesis is limited by years 1918 and 1933. It is based on archive files of Archiv Univerzity Karlovy and contemporary literature. The historical context is taken especially from two extensive monographs, namely Germania docet from Daniela Siebe and Die Alexander von Humboldt-Stiftung und das Ausländerstudium in Deutschland 1925-1945 from Holger Impekoven. The aim of this thesis is a statistical conclusion of the number of Czechoslovak students who went to study in Germany in the given period of time. It also captures political, economical and study aspects of the studies in the Weimar Republic as well as the problems of the integration of Czechoslovak students in german surroundings. According to the studied sources it is necessary to consistently distinguish Czech and Slovak people on one side and German people at the other side. There were fundamental differences between these nationalities not only in the number of Czech and Slovak people traveling to Germany, but also in the way of intake by the local inhabitans. Czechoslovak German people, called Auslandsdeutsche, didn't hesitate to repeatedly elicit unrests against the Czechoslovak people in the Weimar Republic. These unrests...
