The aim of the thesis is to map how family theme are understood within the framework of civics and to prepare activities for the teaching process focused on family. The introductory section is about a family on a theoretical level, describes the functions and types of family, marriage, outlines the development of a family in Western Europe and indicates characteristics of a current family such as growing divorce rate and alternative forms of cohabitation. Subsequently, the thesis focuses on the analysis of family theme in the Framework Educational Programme for Elementary Education and in selected textbooks of civics for elementary schools. The final section of the thesis presents a set of own activities related to a family theme.

This diploma thesis deals with the topic of cross-curricular relationships between civics and geography in elementary school education. The aim of this work is to provide an overview of these interdisciplinary relations between both educational fields. This was achieved through a content analysis of the thematic units of the curriculum presented in the Framework Education Programme for Elementary Education. Based on the obtained data, the author designed eight model teaching units that were put into practice. Individual teaching units were subsequently evaluated. The main contribution of this work is finding numerous compatibility between both fields, which can be used in everyday pedagogical practice.
Analysis of Games with selected educational potentional of experience for schools

The presented diploma thesis deals with the use of the potential of experiential learning in the context of teaching at lower secondary schools. The theoretical part makes for the starting point of the practical part. It is devoted to the description of the basic pillars of experiential learning and the specific needs of pupils in the period of pubescence from the perspective of developmental psychology. The aim of the analysis processed in the practical part of the thesis is to select games from 29 issues of the Gymnasion magazine that meet the established criteria related to the principles of Experiential learning, the specifics of work with the educational category of lower secondary school-age and selected areas of the Framework Education Programme for Elementary Education. The findings include 33 selected games, 15 of which are adapted in the form of didactic cards, which are available for teachers of Citizenship education.
Regionalistic Issues in textbooks of Civic Education after 1989

Regionalistic Issues in textbooks of Civic Education after 1989 Summary This thesis focuses on civic education textbooks in the period after 1989 to the present. It includes recapitulation of the development of civic education as school subject and of the regional approach too. Contains a list of all the civics textbooks authorized the Ministry of Education for use in primary schools and grammar schools, including textbooks for pupils with special educational needs. The main topic of this thesis is to analyze the status of regionalist curriculum in basic education, while focusing on the 2nd degree and equivalent years of grammar school. In this context, it recapitulated the last major curriculum change in the Czech education system in the form of general educational program with emphasis on the status of regionalist curriculum. The last purpose of the work and its practical aspect is the identification and analysis of the historical homeland of the current contents of civics textbooks, its comparison with the current state of historical knowledge and pointing out the frequent historical inaccuracies and stereotypes, which are topics of regional history in the historical content of the curriculum of civics occur. The conclusion is devoted to recommendations which will be used in the creation of civics textbooks.
Controversial Issues as a Part of Education in Primary Schools

This diploma thesis focuses on dealing with controversial issues in primary schools. The main aim of this work is to find out why it is appropriate to integrate these issues into teaching, whether it is even possible for primary school pupils to deal with them and how these topics can be taught and integrated. The theoretical part begins by defining the term controversial issue, then it is devoted to developmental presupposition of primary school children for dealing with controversial issues, then how these issues relate to Citizenship and Global Education, and which methods can be used for dealing with controversial issues. Eliška Bucvanová. Diplomová práce. Citizenship - Theoretical Bases and Teaching Practice ABSTRACT IN ENGLISH Weak civil society can be seen as a possible drawback of Czech democracy. One of the possible ways of building it is citizenship education provided within the compulsory school system. Citizenship is also the main subject of this work, which uses qualitative research methods to find out how the concept of "citizenship" is understood by teachers at a selected primary school, what information they provide to pupils on this subject and how. Since the scope of the paper would be insufficient, it does not intend to map the state of citizenship education in the Czech Republic: its aim is to find out how teachers approach the subject and whether their opinions coincide, and to compare their views with the information contained in literature. The results of the work show that the selected school is at a comparatively high level; however, the teachers' attitudes to citizenship education and its aims lack consistency and comprehensiveness and, also, the pupils' knowledge highly varies. This can be due to the fact that citizenship education has long been in need of an integrated approach and, very probably, also training opportunities for teachers that would help them develop their professional skills. The main task is to find out which factors influence civic attitudes and engagement of youth in current society. There has been an increased interest in concept of civil society since the fall of Communist regimes in Central and Eastern Europe with respect to political, economic and social changes. These changes resulted in a need to rethink the content of civic and citizenship education. Firstly the author describes civil society as a context for civic participation with special emphasis on Czech civil society and then she deals with the theory of political socialization, which helps her to identify the key determinants of civic engagement. Family, school, peer groups and media are seen as the main agents of this socialization. Using data from the International Civic and Citizenship study the author concludes that context of schools and classrooms and motivation are the most important direct factors in civic engagement.
The method of storytelling and its application in the Civics

This master thesis focuses on topics of narrativity, stories and the art storytelling, while fixing the biggest attention on the storytelling method - as a narratively-dramatical field of arts. The storytelling method stands in the very focal point of this thesis and its potentiality in the field of didactics and education are being examined - concerning specifically the school subject of the Civics. In this master thesis, two chapters have been designed - a philosophical one, and a didactics-concerning one. In the first chapter, narrativity has been analysed as an anthropological and philosophical phenomenon and viewed from the phenomenological perspective. In this part of the master thesis, the essential significance of narrativity, stories and storytelling for the human life, human experience and the capabilities of education have been expressed and emphasized. In the second chapter, the variety of narrative forms has been outlined and the storytelling method has also been introduced. The methodology has been presented and the process of the preparations for a storytelling performance has been described in this part of the master thesis. Comparison of students assessment in citizenship education classes at traditional and Montessori basic schools

This diploma thesis deals with a school assessment. It is divided into two parts, the theoretical and the practical one. In the theoretical part, first of all, the Montessori pedagogy and its principles like a freedom of children, beforehand prepaired surroundings or principals of the age heterogeneity are clarified. Further on the didactical material, used in those types of schools, is discussed. The last part of this chapter deals with the position of teachers and adults at school. Next there is a chapter about the assessment. It circumscribes the definition, functions and types of the assessment used in schools. Last, but not least, the forms of the assessment, which means classification by marking or a word evaluation. The second part is the practical one. It is aimed at finding the difference between the way of assessment in two types of primary schools, which means the Montessori primary school and an ordinary primary school and also at finding out, which types of assessment, concerned by the theoretical part, are used the most during lessons. Principles of market economy in Civics

The diploma thesis will be devoted to the principles of market economy and its teaching in Civics classes at primary school. The work is divided into two parts, theoretical and practical. The theoretical part introduces the basic principles of market economy, explains the concepts of market, market mechanism, supply, demand, competition, monopoly, price and profit, including the interrelationships. The following is an insight to the curriculum and the theory of didactics. At the end of the theoretical part, space is set aside for introduction to the basic issues of teaching economic topics at primary school. In the practical part I present project teaching, a didactic analysis of the principles of market economy is performed, a teaching unit was designed and evaluated, which was implemented at the primary school and kindergarten Kralupy nad Vltavou, Třebízského 523. The diploma thesis is ended with self-evaluation.
