Czechoslovak-Cuban Cinematic Cooperation in the 1960s
Matušková, Magdaléna ; Opatrný, Josef (advisor) ; Štěpánek, Pavel (referee) ; Skřivan, Aleš (referee)
The study analyzes the largely understudied cinematic cooperation between Czechoslovakia and Cuba in the first decade following the Cuban Revolution. It is based mostly on archival documents from the former Central Directorship of Czechoslovak State Film, the ministry of education and culture and the ministry of foreign affairs. Several chapters also draw from oral history, data collected from series of interviews with Cuban technicians and artists who have worked in Cuban cinema since the 1960s as well as Czechoslovak experts who worked at the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Arts and Industries in the 1960s. The Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (CICAI), founded in March 1959 shortly after the triumph of the Revolution, faced a shortage of human and material resources since its inception. The film industry, which had been mostly in the hands of the Americans before 1959, lost much personnel due to mass emigration. Later on, due to the American blockade and embargo, it also lost its most important provider of films, material and equipment. The majority of CICAI's technician and artists were just starting and were lacking in technical knowledge required to make films. Czechoslovak State Film (CSF) offered extensive help to Cuban cinema, especially in the area of developing the...

Reproductive strategies in boid snakes
Vejvodová, Tereza ; Frynta, Daniel (advisor) ; Rehák, Ivan (referee)
The important part of life history of species is number and size of offspring, which is limited by size of maternal investment. Family of boas (Boidae) comprises species with various maternal investments. The species of study was Cuban boa (Chilabothrus angulifer) having small litter size, but producing one of the biggest neonates from family Boidae. The aim of the thesis was to analyze relationships between life-history parameters and try to find possible evolutionary causes of this huge maternal investment. Results show, that the female's decision to reproduce is under "Capital breeder" strategy, when size of the female positively influence litter size and offspring size. Surprising result is that smaller (younger) females are producing more sons than daughters in accordance with "Local resource competition" hypothesis. Fitness of the young should increase with birth size. That was confirmed only in interspecific survival rate being very high in Cuban boa. Keywords: snakes, Cuban boa, maternal investment, life history, SSD, sex ratio
Criteria for the definition of a full function joint venture in decision-making of the Commission
Apollonova, Elena ; Svoboda, Pavel (advisor) ; Šmejkal, Václav (referee)
- Criteria for a definition of a full function joint venture in the decision-making of the Commission This thesis focuses on the progress in the Commission's approach towards full functioning joint ventures and on criteria for their determination. A full functioning joint venture is a joint venture type that fulfils criteria given by the Commission of the European Union - joint control and full functioning, that consists of functional autonomy, lasting basis and resources. The first, inductive part provides a short joint venture typology and explains ways by which the European law regulates those concentrations. The second part of the thesis serves as a necessary historic excursus to the progress in the European Union Commission's view on cooperative and concentrative concentrations and its goal is to clarify on the basis of which factors and how this approach has developed from 1968 to the present. The third, main, part of the thesis is an analysis of particular full functioning joint venture determination criteria. Each criterion is analysed separately with regards to specialised publications, regulations, reports and directives, especially by analysing European Union Commission's rulings, as the result of the application of the approach towards full functioning joint ventures by the European...
Social behaviour and ecology of bats of the genus Pipisttrellus
Jahelková, Helena ; Horáček, Ivan (advisor) ; Řehák, Zdeněk (referee) ; Červený, Jaroslav (referee)
43 Summary of results of presented research Since discrimination of two cryptic species inside Pipistrellus pipistrellus s.l based on echolocation calls (Jones & van Parijs 1993), social calls (Barlow & Jones 1997), and molecular data (Barratt et al. 1997), the genus Pipistrellus have been studied intensively. The mainstream of my research were reproduction strategies and vocalization behaviour of Nathusius's pipistrelle (Pipistrellus nathusii). It is a small European insectivorous species, which is known for his migratory behaviour. The dominant mating system is resource-defence polygyny. Males vocalize during flight (songflight) and from entrances of their day roosts (sedentary display). Advertising calls occur during whole active season, but they considerable increase during mating season. Males show strong fidelity to their mating roosts whereas females are fixed to maternity colonies (Schmidt 1984, Rachwald 1992, Gerell-Lundberg & Gerell 1994, Furmankiewitz 2003, Petersons 2004). This species exhibits variability in mating behaviour in different countries, probably due to long- distance migrations. In Czech Republic, the species was considered to be rare and only sporadic indications of reproduction were found (Hanák & Gaisler 1976, Šefrová & Buřič 1998). Main research area of my study was in South...

UNIVERZITA KARLOVA V PRAZE FAKULTA SOCIÁLNÍCH VĚD Jakub Černý GEOPOLITIKA REGIONU KASPICKÉHO MOŘE V KONTEXTU PRÁVNÍHO REŽIMU VYUŽÍVÁNÍ JEHO ZDROJŮ Rigorózní práce Praha 2011 Rigorózní práce 3 Autor práce: Mgr. et. Mgr. Jakub Černý Konzultant: PhDr. Emil. Souleimanov Ph.D. Summary: Subject of the thesis is the definition of the Caspian Sea legal status in wider geopolitical perspective. The Caspian case is analyzed from the perspective of the international law in the...
Ecology of the Reed Bunting Emberiza schoeniclus in fishpond habitats
Musilová, Zuzana ; Musil, Petr (advisor) ; Procházka, Petr (referee) ; Krištín, Anton (referee)
10 SUMMARY Musilová, Z. & Musil, P. Nest site selection in the Reed Bunting Emberiza schoeniclus in fishpond habitats. submitted Nest site selection was analysed using variation in timing of breeding, nesting success and age of females in the Reed Bunting in fishpond habitats in mosaic Central European landscape. An example of habitat generalist using variable types of littoral vegetation is the Reed Bunting Emberiza schoeniclus, which occupies a wide scale of wetlands habitats (Blümel 1989, Cramp & Perrins 1994, Glutz von Blotzheim & Bauer 1997, Báldi & Kisbenedek 1999). Nevertheless, habitats generalists are supposed to be capable of not only occupying a wider range of habitats, but also exploring a wider range of resources (Brown 1984) including nest sites. We predicted that individuals with higher fitness are able to occupy optimal nest sites (Benett & Owens 2005). Survival and probability of recruitment are usually higher for early-hatched fledglings than for those hatched later (Lack 1968, Perrins 1970, Benett & Owens 2005). Reproductive success of older birds is generally higher than of the young ones (Curio 1983, Geslin et al. 2004). We can identify individual fitness using the following parameters: timing of breeding, nesting success and age of individuals. We evaluate habitat preference and...

Concept of Age Management in Organizations in the Czech Republic
Steklíková, Eliška ; Kocianová, Renata (advisor) ; Šerák, Michal (referee)
This diploma thesis summarises current approaches to age management, or human resources management taking in account the age and skills of employees in the Czech Republic. The theoretical part of this paper deals with the background of this concept, describes the present demographical development, its consequences in the labour field, and the problem of aging population which is visible in the need to adapt applied management strategies in organisations to this trend. There are mentioned several programmes, thoughts, and legislative measures on which the newest concepts and strategic plans in Europe and the Czech Republic are based. The empirical part of the thesis focuses on a specific level of organisations, and consists of two surveys. The first one is a comparative case study for which data were collected in two organisations which have recently implemented measures stemming from age management strategies. These measures are then specified and confronted with the statements of the employees who, in semi-structured interviews with the author, talked about the changes that were put into practice under the concept of age management, and about the discrimination of persons over 50 years of age on the labour market. The second survey was carried out by a questionnaire distributed online to...
