Aesthetics of Arts
Garila, Athina ; Hogenová, Anna (advisor) ; Blecha, Zbyněk (referee)
This Bachelor work has no intention to analysis the History of art, either to explain the terminology of philosophy thru time; Great Masters did this before and compare with them will be completely useless. The purpose of this work is to prove that aesthetics there for arts, are extremely important in our days not only because art domesticates the ferocious beast (humans included), but also because aesthetics is ethics. In order of course to understand this association between this triangle aesthetics-art-ethics, a short historical preview is necessary as well as the explanation of main terminology is require; At the end however when we see our course as human kind from the beginning until now a question will be born; did we failure, did the modern time pays the price of our ancestors or our own? And if our time is actually the worst of all times can this failure be reverse? And how can this and the next generations do something to change the course of history since the luck of ethics is more than obvious in every corner of our world? This work will give the facts and at the end will show reality in a cruel and row way; but the answers for all this question is still yours...

Balinese dance and drama
Vozábová, Jana ; Stehlíková, Eva (advisor) ; Pšenička, Martin (referee)
In my thesis I describe many kinds of theatrical forms in Bali island - Indonesia. I choose this theme of my diploma paper because in my studies of theater I'm focusing on Balinese dance and drama since four years ago. In academic year 2004/2005 I obtained scholarship of Indonesian government on studies in lSI, Institute of Art in Denpasar, Bali. My field of study was shadow puppets theater and dance drama. After my studies I return there every year to continue my research on Balinese theater and to get better in traditional Balinese dance which I am also teaching in Czech Republic. Three years ago I established civic association Kintari foundation which introduces Indonesian art and culture in Czech Republic and helps on humanitarian projects in Indonesia as well. My thesis is divided into three main parts: Puppet theater, Dance theater and Theater between puppets and dance art. There is also Balinese dividing of theater according to hindu religion which is the main indicator of Balinese theater. These groups are: wali, bebali and balih-balihan. The relegation to these groups depends on how important is a given kind of theatrical form for hindu religion. Wali are the holiest kinds of theater and dance, bebali are still connected to religious ceremonies and balih-balihan are just spectacular case. Theater...

Evolutionary psychology of art
Lačev, Alek ; Štětovská, Iva (referee) ; Šípek, Jiří (advisor)
In this thesis I concern with a phenomenon of art within field of evolutio-nary psychology. This phenomenon apparently exceeds the functional and as such it "cries out for an explanation". I explain that evolutionary theories of art consider art in the light of scientific attempt to understand human nature. And in accord with those I ask, why art exists at all or why it is so prevalent in hu-man behavior. There are many evolutionary accounts of art. Yet, I will focus on four of the foremost evolutionary theories of and their proponents: (1) art as not an adaptation, but a byproduct of the evolution of human brain by natural selec-tion (Steven Pinker); (2) art as a product not of natural selection but of sexual selection (Geoffrey Miller); (3) art as an adaptation of social cohesion (Ellen Dis-sanayake) or (4) art as an adaptation of individual mental organization (John Tooby and Leda Cosmides). In the research part of the thesis I further examine one of the above men-tioned theories. Two hypothesis based on Millers theory are outlined and tested empirically in a form of personal ads. Results show, that neither more nor younger women answer to those ads which contain expression of artistic talent though. Thus they do not support Millers theory. Discussion summariz-es possible reasons for such outcome as well...

Origin, evolution and essence of the Puppet Guignol in French theatre and its contemporary adaptation
Lamperová, Zuzana ; Pohorský, Aleš (referee) ; Voldřichová - Beránková, Eva (advisor)
Guignol, a French puppet born in the early nineteenth century in the hands of Laurent Mourguet, a silk weaver often unemployed during the Revolution, celebrates in 2008 his bicentenary. Accompanied by his wife, cantankerous Madelon, and his best friend, drunkard Gnafron, improvising commentaries to the news of the day, he became very popular all over the France. Unlike his colleagues of Commedia dell'Arte, he was close to the daily lives of his working-class audience. In contrast to other regional puppets, Guignol still appears regularly on stages of French theatres. In my study, I have first explained the origine and the evolution of the Guignol theatre. I have as well tried to show the identity and the behaviour of the Lyon most famous puppet, in one of the traditional pieces, Le Déménagement (Moving). Guignol appears to be here a poor, unhappy and unemployed silk weaver, who will lose his apartment, if he does not pay the rent to his landlord. Anyway, he does not surrender, and tries to keep the right to live in his flat by words, and when this does not help, by beating the authorities. Guignol's show is a comedy, but it also has a social message. There are a few publications regarding Guignols history, but none of them shows Guignol in the context of the other puppets in French modern theatre. That is...

Nippon re-discovered. The image of Japan in central European modernism 1920-1940
Čapková, Helena ; Švácha, Rostislav (referee) ; Lahoda, Vojtěch (advisor)
Japanese influence on Europe was particularly strong in the period of japonism, which is widely pinned down and limited to the second half of 19th century. However, this Japanese vogue transformed into a sophisticated knowledge and admiration for Japanese art, philosophy and everyday life by the interwar period. This transformation happened within a framework of international modernity and is a subject of this text. What is the Japanese element in modernism that alludes its latent japaneseness? I argue that it is a symptom of Japanese aesthetics that deeply rooted into common consciousness by the time between the wars. The geographic focus of this paper is on Central Europe and Japan. Japanese art scene has been an active participant of international art debates since the beginning of 20th century. This dynamic situation in Japan played a crucial role in seeking the history and unique face of modernism. Many prominent artists took part in this process including the ones for Central Europe. Therefore, few case studies will be included, such as on Johannes Itten, Bedřich Feuerstein and Bruno Taut.
