The penetration of entertainment into the news paradigm, its reflection and influence on the public sphere
Klimeš, David ; Jirák, Jan (advisor) ; Štoll, Martin (referee) ; Trampota, Tomáš (referee)
The aim of my work is to describe the penetration of entertainment into the news and the normative reflection of this phenomenon. In the first chapter I conceptualize the phenomenon and discuss the basic literature on the topic. In the subsection I present my concept of the relationship between infotainment and other media concepts from the most general to specific ones such as infotainment. Further, I describe the Czech normative reflection on three different levels: the theoretical debate, the professional debate within political discourse (in which I also include the activity of regulatory authorities), and the debate within journalistic discourse. In the second chapter I show methodological attempts at coping with the penetration of entertainment and I suggest a methodological approach for my own research. In the third chapter I describe historically the onset of the news paradigm in the Czech media landscape, the penetration of entertaining elements into it, and the increased interpretive power of journalists in the commercialized infotainment news. After the description of the Czech normative reflection of this phenomenon and the presentation of the research, I propose a new approach to examine the fusion of entertainment and news.
Social and cultural status digital entertainment
Vnouček, Petr ; Švelch, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Nečas, Vlastimil (referee)
This work uncovers perceptions of the Czech society concerning cultural and social role of a digital entertainment (computer games and videogames) as a relatively new interactive media form. The author tries to verify validity of a presumption that the digital entertainment is an object of a cultural stigma that was formed by combination of various factors which are closely specified in the work. According to the author, present perception of the digital entertaiment in society is formed by a media panic that repeated itself regularly in the course of history. Amongst other significant determinants one can find certain stereotypical viewes, efforts of a ruling class to sustain status quo and struggle of various social groups over cultural dominance which leads to hierarchization of cultural tastes. Suggested cultural stigmatisation of the digital entertainment probably leads to a social stigmatisation of players, who submit to social pressures and often adapt their behaviour to general tastes. Essential part of the work is formed by a research based on qualitative and quantitative data collected from teachers and gymnasium (high schools) and elementary school students. The research supports a presumption that the negative view on the digital entertainment is subject to specific generational...
Comparison of popular didactic weekly magazine for youth (Mladý hlasatel thirties/forties Vpřed forties/fifties)
Meravá, Tereza ; Čeňková, Jana (advisor) ; Suk, Pavel (referee)
Master's thesis "Comparison of popularly educational weekly youth magazines Mladý Hlasatel and Vpřed in 1930s through 1950s" contrasts two youth titles that were published around the WWII. Both titles, connected not only through the editor and father-like figure Jaroslav Foglar, were immensely popular in their time and constitute the phenomenon of journalism for children of that era. Both magazines were published during uneasy times, firstly during the dawn of the war and during the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia; secondly, after ten years, during the rise of communists' influence and subsequent Communist coup d'état in 1948. This master's thesis follows my bachelor thesis "Mladý Hlasatel and it's authors" describing history, authors and specifics of this magazine. Master's thesis adds comparably detailed information about the magazine Vpřed, but its main objective is to compare the titles published in "free" era before the WWII and after it, and the ones that were published during the limited freedom of the press during the war and after the year 1948. This work seeks not only to compare the content, authors and information in both magazines, but also to comprehend the contemporary context of that era, observe the impact of ideological and political influences, as well as describe different...

Subject of my graduation theses was to define an isolated room of the Práce square, to create a central assembly room, which is isolated from the traffic of the adjacent Tomáš Baťa avenue, to complete dominant buildings of the Bata’s period, to stimulate and to make attractive it for the pedestrians and to design a traffic, street’s and new street’s lay-out, to draw a scientific and technical park and living in the city centre, parking places pro the new designed objects. The architectural - urban project is solving a new function of the square, which originally used as ascending area for then expanding Bata’s plants. After failure of the plants has the square lost his function. The designed solution removes the cars, respects viewed axes, and creates a new raster due to straighten of Březnicka Street, which is parallel to the “green axe”, which separates the old and the new part of Zlín, vertical to Tomáš Baťa avenue. It is bringing new restaurants, coffee-bars, shops, housings and jobs. Scientific and Technical Park concludes the square from the north site. It is designed at the place, where formally a hospital building were - in front of he building 21. It is continuing towards the street and joins the faculty of management and economies with the new university centre. The building height is similar as the surrounding buildings. It is parted in two parts; between them is the viewed axe through the district of SVIT. Block of flats concludes the square form the west. Orientation of the flats is also to the east – west. The flats can serve for the employees, too, for the neighbouring Scientific and Technical Park. Kce is from skeleton and is brick-faces KLINKER, which corresponds to the surrounding building-up area.
