Content and publishing concept of free daily nexspaper:comparison Czech Republic and France
Kičmerová, Lada ; Köppl, Daniel (advisor) ; Groman, Martin (referee)
My thesis deals with free newspaper on the Czech and French market. I divided my work into three main parts. The first is a descriptive one: I present a list of free daily newspaper on both national markets with the stress on their capital cities and I give a brief characteristic of each title. I talk briefly about the company Metro International that was at the origin of the free newspaper concept and I also spend some time talking about the French press market that has many specifics in terms of journalistic traditions and market situation. In the second part of my thesis I concentrate on the publishing concept of a free newspaper. I write about advertizing, ownership and distribution channels, as well as target groups and editorial staff. Finally in the third main part of my work I discussed the content characteristics of free dailies. I used the results from my quantitative analysis as a source of information. I came to the conclusion that free newspaper use original texts as well as press agencies sources to fill their pages, that are colorful, highly structuralized and inspired by audiovisual media. In the final part of my thesis I summarize the evolution of the market with free dailies over the past few months and I discuss the possible future development. I came to the conclusion that both...
Monetization of digital content in Czech media
Pavlović, Martin ; Klimeš, David (advisor) ; Shavit, Anna (referee)
This bachelor thesis focuses on the trend of direct monetization of digital newspaper content. At the beggining, it examines the development of monetizing and puts it in the context of media market transformations after the mass expansion of internet connection. Subsequently it explores other reasons that lead to the surge of paywalls, analyses particular approaches to direct monetization and discusses some aspects which affect the overall success of imposing fees. The theoretical part is concluded with a discussion about several problematic sides of direct monetization and defining some elemental techniques which publishers use to attract new subscribers. The practical part provides an analysis of digital subscription offers in selected Czech media and marketing activities which they use to support sales. Followingly, the work elaborates on its own survey which focused on attitudes of Czech readers towards paid internet content and their preferences regarding particular offers, such as price level or periodicity of subscription payments. As a part of the practical section, three interviews with media representatives were conducted and the acquired findings are used throughout the thesis.
Approaches to the deduction of formulas for measure in geometry in Czech mathematics textbooks
Procházková, Anežka ; Vondrová, Naďa (advisor) ; Zamboj, Michal (referee)
This bachelor's thesis aims to analyse selected mathematics school books published in the Czech Republic and summarize different approaches to calculating the area, volume and surface area in geometry. The thesis has been divided into two sections. The first section focuses on geometry, geometric measure and geometric figures, defining and explaining key terms related to the measure in geometry. The section also summarizes key information on the geometric figures addressed in the second section of the thesis. The second section includes different approaches to formula derivation, as used in Czech mathematics school books for lower secondary schools. The approaches are described in ways comprehensible to both teachers and pupils. The second section has been divided according to the geometric figures introduced in the first section, dealing with the area of a triangle, parallelogram, trapezium and circle, as well as the surface area and volume of a cube, cuboid, general prism, pyramid, cylinder, cone and sphere. The final section also explores Cavalieri's principle, which was used in some of the investigated approaches.
Comparation of úvodník and editorials in weekly magazines Reflex and Echo with emphasis on variability of genres
Malá, Markéta ; Osvaldová, Barbora (advisor) ; Trunečková, Ludmila (referee)
This bachelor's thesis deals with the introductory of úvodník and editorial. It presents their different interpretations and characteristics and aims to determine whether it can be distinguished as two specific genres, or whether it is only two different designations of the same genre. The first part of the thesis presents several definitions characterizing úvodník and editorial and also mentions the historic developement of úvodník, especially i teh Czech lands. One of the chapters is also devoted to the position of úvodník in Lidové noviny and mentions not only Ferdinand Peroutka as the local úvodník writer. The entry of foreign editorial into Czech media environment and the subsequent mixing of elemnts of úvodník and an editorial on the pages of social periodicals is also described. and the entry of foreign editorial into Czech media enviroment. As well it presents the position of editorial in Anglo-American media. The main part of the bachelor's thesis consists of an analysis of úvodník in the Reflex weekly and editorials in the Echo Weekly in a defined period of time, which is performed on the basis of several specified criteria. The evaluation of the results of the analysis will make it possible to make a comparation of two genres, which is approached with five predetrmined hypotheses. Their...
Understanding of formulas for areas and volumes of geometric figures in the history of mathematics and in pupils
Tavačová, Adela ; Kvasz, Ladislav (advisor) ; Vondrová, Naďa (referee)
Title: Understanding Area and Volume Formulae of Geometric Figures in the History of Mathematics and by Pupils Author: Bc. Adela Tavačová Supervisor: prof. RNDr. Ladislav Kvasz, DSc. The aim of this thesis is to describe the nature and possible causes of problematic areas in pupils' understanding of area and volume of geometric shapes and solids and treat this issue from the point of view of its ontogeny and phylogeny. Modern theories of gradual formation of the concepts of area and volume in pupils' minds will be characterized, together with the historical development of these concepts (from ancient Egypt and Greece to modern day). Complex analysis of the current Mathematics course books for primary and lower-secondary level is offered in the second part of the thesis. The analysis is based on the criteria following from the study of academic literature and on the historic research in this area. The aim of the analysis is to describe the way in which the course books treat geometric formulae and to what extent they respect their gradual development. In the final discussion, general aspects leading from the analysis will be summarized and offered as possible inspiration for pupils, teachers and future teachers of Mathematics. Key Words: formula, area, volume, algebraic language, hypothetical...
The Influence of Advertisers on Media Content of Lifestyle Magazines
Pouzarová, Jana ; Osvaldová, Barbora (advisor) ; Moravec, Václav (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to find out whether advertisers can influence the content of lifestyle media. The first part of this work deals with the theory of media economics, the market of printed magazines and the various influences on the media; followed by a definition of the ethical and legal framework for advertising. It also includes a description of selected media, an overview of their market position and the degree of financial dependence on advertising. Two lifestyle magazines, namely Cosmopolitan, representing women's magazines, and ForMen, as a men-oriented magazine, were selected for analysis. The second part of the thesis deals with the definition of the methodological framework and the description of the research method used, i.e. quantitative content analysis. Three different phenomena are explored using six research sub-questions, namely the ratio of advertising and editorial content, the degree of linking advertising with editorial materials (brand reciprocity), and finally the use of advertorials, their labelling and distinguishability from other content. The third section of the work elaborates on research results. The thesis concludes that while certain dependence and influences can be traced, not all possible manifestations of the relationship between publishers and advertisers...
