Nováková, Barbora ; Tvrdík, Milan (advisor) ; Zbytovský, Štěpán (referee)
This master's thesis attempts to present the literary conception of a modern pulsing German metropolis at the end of the 1920s and the beginning of the 1930s in three significant novels of that time: Döblin's Berlin Alexanderplatz. Die Geschichte vom Franz Biberkopf (1929), Kästner's Fabian. Die Geschichte eines Moralisten (1931) and Keun's Das kunstseidene Mädchen (1932). Attention is paid, on the one hand, to the picture of a babbling city, the presence of technology, new means of transport and advertising in the streets. Most importantly, however, the thesis gives an insight into the social situation of that time, i.e. the issues of everyday life in a metropolis which can be summarized, in the words of the personae, under the term "hard times" - unemployment, criminality or the politicisation of inhabitants in the years before the Nazi seizure of power. In addition, the thesis covers likewise the situation of the new social stratum of employees, the fates of women and an outline of cultural, entertainment and media industry in Berlin. Novotná, Eva ; Fišerová, Michaela (advisor) ; Sluková, Tereza (referee)
This thesis deals with the introduction of new technologies in the information society, which cause acceleration of aspects of everyday life. The consequence of this situation is the increased level of alienation and anonymity among people in cities. The thesis compares the view of two authors. The first one is a French writer and philosopher Paul Virilio, the other is an American director Godfrey Reggio. Both authors perceive the transformation of today's society negatively and describe the consequences arising from the introduction of new technologies. Each of them uses a different form of expression - Paul Virilio, writing and text, Godfrey Reggio, documentary films. Nevertheless, they have the same opinion on the relevant issues and come to similar conclusions. The aim of this thesis is to compare the two authors and their ideas and propose possible solutions to prevent negative consequences of acceleration of aspects of everyday life. The Phenomenon of Zombies in Films by George A. Romero
Čada Wernischová, Nelly ; Čeněk, David (advisor) ; Svatoňová, Kateřina (referee)
(in English) This work deals with the phenomenon of zombie in films by George A. Romero. Its objective is to prove that, although the characteristics of the phenomenon underwent significant change within individual films by this director, it still preserved the basic metaphoric function it had already at the time of its origination in Haiti in the 17th century. . The analytical part, in which three selected zombie horrors by George A. Romero (Dawn of the Dead, Land of the Dead and Diary of the Dead) are discussed, is based on the methods of neoformalist analysis. Based on the analysis of individual films, I have proved that the zombie phenomenon in Romero's films works, the same as it does in Haiti, as a metaphor of slavery with this metaphor being varied depending on the issues that become the current topic of each of the films whose actual aim is to criticise the contemporary society.

Svárovská, Nicol ; Činátlová, Blanka (advisor) ; Vojvodík, Josef (referee)
The thesis treats the subject of how the work of Max Picard, Rainer Maria Rilke and Jan Zahradníček relate. Its unifying element is the motif of salvation, its negative and positive aspect. Picard, Rilke, and Zahradníček perceive the world overfilled with technology and become witnesses of dehumanisation of humans and the related destruction of speech. Their work mirrors this decomposition, but it alongside offers a positive counter movement, an alternative to the age of dominion of technology. A comparative analysis of the specific understanding of the two aspects of salvation also casts light on the reception of Max Picard in their work. The first part deals with the analysis of Heidegger's essence (Wesen) of modern technology (Gestell) and the possibility of alternative revealing (poiésis). It renders the transformation of a human beings and their relationship to things, a transformation diagnosed by Picard, Rilke, and Zahradníček in their work. It thus proposes a context for the observed motif of salvation. The introduction of the first part accounts for a treatise on the loss of a thing which is linked to the penetration of technology and on salvation consisting in paying heed to the inconspicuous state of affairs. The second part opens with the reception of Picard's book Hilter in Our Selves...
