The aim of this bachelor thesis is to analyse cultural differences between the British and the American society on the basis of a British sitcom called "The Office" and its American adaptation. In the first chapter of the thesis we learn the basic information about the sitcom. In chapter two there is an explanation of how could the sitcom became so popular in the US. In the second part of the same chapter we look into general differences in filming the UK and the US sitcoms. With the third chapter the analysis of the sitcom "The Office" starts. It begins with a description of its plot-line and the main characters then it moves on to analyse differences between the main characters. After this, a topic of cultural and social phenomena in the present-day UK and US society is examined. The analysis ends with the discussion on the topic of humour and its differences in the UK and the US version of the sitcom.
Humor on Twitter via bot accounts
Neuman, Michal ; Švelch, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Křeček, Jan (referee)
This paper aims to map the use of humour in the production of posts by selected automated Twitter accounts and users' reactions to such posts. The theoretical basis for this study is primarily provided by theories of humour, through the lens of which the issue of humour via Twitterbots is viewed. To provide a broader context, the phenomenon of 'new media', social media and automation is also introduced, within which Twitterbots are given closer attention. A combination of quantitative and qualitative research techniques were used in the analysis of the selected Twitterbots. Quantitative methods were used to describe the accounts under study and to select a narrower sample for detailed analysis. The qualitative analysis used a content analysis method with inductively and deductively created categories to answer research questions regarding the prevailing theory of humour, forms of responses to the posts and their themes. Within each account, partial results are described, and then combined and interpreted in a broader context in the final discussion.

Kwasková, Dominika ; Schneiderová, Soňa (advisor) ; Klabíková Rábová, Tereza (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with a language humour and its usage in advertising. The theoretical part first defines humour, distinguishes two basic types, i.e. language and content-based humour, and summarizes the theoretical knowledge of the influence of humour on key indicators of advertising effectiveness. Then it concentrates on Czech language and its elements that allow advertisers to create and modify commercial messages so that the advertising achieves desired goals. Specific elements of language humour are then presented on the examples of Czech advertisements, which forms a prelude to the research itself. The practical part of the work is a research of the usage of language humour in advertising carried out by the form of descriptive analysis. Commercials in the banking sector were chosen as a research sample. For the purposes of the research, ten categories of language comic elements were created, into which the individual elements were divided and examined. Research shows that the spectrum of language comic elements is wide, however, most of the commercials fall into the category of wordplay based on the double meaning of words. In most of the presented commercials, language comic elements have a rather secondary role, when they complete the dialogues of the characters and support the...
Humor and Satire as instrument of reconciliation with the holocaust experience on the example of T. Borowski and E. Hilsenrath works
Šulcová, Veronika ; Zelená, Alena (advisor) ; Nieć, Grzegorz (referee)
Although the combination of humour and holocaust may seem rather startling, further analysis of humour characteristics brings to light its significant functions, which, according to the survivors, humour in the holocaust truly fulfilled. Whether it is a matter of being able to see the object of one's attention from several perspectives, from an emotional distance or being able to release accumulated frustrations, there is clear evidence of humour's appreciable role during the holocaust and in the aftermath. Within the framework of coping with the trauma caused by the holocaust experience also emerged holocaust literature dealing with the subject from a humorous perspective, which motivated a lot of debates developed about appropriateness of humour in the holocaust representation. To other controversial works from this area also belong the short stories by Tadeusz Borowski and the novel The Nazi & the Barber by Edgar Hilsenrath. This master thesis follows humour, satire and cynicism as means of coping with traumatic holocaust experience based on the example of the above mentioned works of Tadeusz Borowski and Edgar Hilsenrath, which, according to many critics, tested the limits of holocaust representation thanks to their unusual humorous approach. Thus, the aim of the thesis is to analyze these...

The diploma thesis describes Polish and Czech nonsense in children's literature. The main goal is to define nonsense literature, its development from a historical and formative point of view, considering contemporary events. The next part deals with the development of Polish nonsense in children's literature. Two main authors, Julian Tuwim and Jan Brzechwa, who are considered as the creators of the new poetic school, took part in the formation of nonsense in Poland. Absurd humour and the world of children readers became the main inspirations for their work. This poetics was followed by other representatives of the Polish nonsense, including Ludwik Jerzy Kern, Wanda Chotomska and others. The work also focuses on the development of Czech nonsense for children, its main personalities and major works, which are based on nonsense, absurdity and word play. The diploma describes nonsense work for children of Josef Kainar, Jiří Kolář, Miloš Macourek, Pavel Šrut and other writers of literature. The last part of the thesis deals with specific nonsense literature for children of Polish and Czech authors....
