3D printing in popularization of science

The Bachelor’s thesis deals primarily with the use of 3D printing by a public which is not acquainted with the technology. The work is divided into two main parts – the first mentioning the theory and the second part proposing practical activities. In the first part, the terminology in connection with 3D printing is defined, the process of 3D printing is determined, and the historical evolution of 3D printing processes is outlined. Except for the 3D printing itself, the process of 3D printable model creation, as well as, the possibilities in the use of 3D printers are described in the first part of the thesis. Additionally, 3D printing pens are depicted. In the second part, the practical part, specific activities for children with the use of 3D printing pens or 3D modelling programs are proposed. All of the activities contain expected time duration, age group and the main objective.
Electronic Circuits for Biomedical Applications

The bachelor’s thesis contains an introduction to biomedical signals and the possibilities of processing those signals by electronic circuits. A significant part of the thesis focuses primarily on the description of EMG signal. Also, the thesis comprises diagrams of electrical circuits used primarily for processing of EMG signals. Furthermore, it includes a practical part, in which functions and parameters of a designed circuit are verified in simulator OrCAD Capture.
Comparative analysis of professional English texts

The purpose of this bachelor thesis is to compare three professional English texts which describe humanoid robots, each from a different perspective. The first text is taken from a scientific magazine called ‘Science Robotics‘ and represents the popular-scientific style. The second text is taken from the book ‘Humanoid Robots, Human-like machines‘ and it is an example of the scientific prose style. The third material used for the analysis is a video that was released on a YouTube channel of company CNET. It was necessary to convert the video to written form, before starting to analyse it. Certainly, there are considerable distinctions between these texts because they are intended for different types of readers or listeners. The bachelor thesis describes the contents of these three texts and explains their styles. Moreover, the thesis focuses on the comparison of spoken and written discourse, the language functions of the texts according to the linguist Roman Jacobson, and the register levels of the analysis.

The bachelor thesis deals with the analysis of the language of advertising from the linguistic point of view and further specifies linguistic means that occur in contemporary advertising. The thesis summarises knowledge about linguistic means used in advertising for both printed and online versions.
Comparative analysis of professional texts on computer science

The aim of this bachelor’s thesis is to provide a comparative analysis of professional texts on computer science. VxLAN technology, which is most often used in data centers, was chosen as the topic for the materials. The first text chosen for the analysis is a web journal article, the second is the technical documentation Request for Comments (RFC), the third is a video lecture. The main goal of this work is to examine the selected materials from different perspectives and to determine the extent to which the texts, written and spoken, differ in their use of language and what common features they have. To achieve this goal, the materials are investigated in terms of several discourse features, including language functions, style and genre, cohesion and coherence, and deixis. The work also tries to define whether the analyzed materials are typical examples of their genres and styles.
The Influence of English on Other Languages, Especially Czech

This bachelor thesis examines the topic of English influence on other languages, especially on present day Czech language. The beginning of the thesis deals with the historical background of the English language in order to understand the reasons of wide usage of English nowadays. The following part explains the importance of learning English nowadays and explains main reasons of learning it. The next part deals with the practical part, where different books, articles have been analyzed to prove the existence of English loanwords in Czech, Russian and French. The reasons for adoption of borrowed words are also analyzed in this part of the thesis. Finally, the last part of the bachelor thesis demonstrates the negative impact of the English language on other languages.

This thesis will explore the term lingua franca, define its sources, key areas and practical implications. It will also contain definitions of the language of business and different types of discourse, genres and the differences between them. In its last part the thesis will contain the comparison of texts written for business purposes in different genres.
English as a Lingua Franca in Multinational Corporations: A Case Study of Everyday Communication

This bachelor’s thesis explains a phenomenon of English language as a lingua franca and its use in everyday communication in multinational corporations. The thesis consists of theoretical and practical parts. The first part describes the status of English as a global language and its use worldwide. It also explains the current position of English in the world based on the Kachru model of spread of English. The second part is devoted to practical use of English as a lingua franca in multinational corporations and considers three of the most popular genres of business communication. All analyzed materials are taken from internal communication within one multinational corporation.
The Influence of English on Other Languages, Especially Czech

In my semestral thesis a history of the English language was described to understand why this language is widely used nowadays in other countries. The main reasons of borrowing English words are colonization of different places in the world by British Empire and the leadership of USA in the field of computer technologies, engineering and TV. I also explained how these tendencies are excepted in the world. The negative and positive aspects are described in detail.
Speech Acts Performed by Information Technology Students in Online Debates

This bachelor’s thesis aims to frame the concept of speech acts and discuss issues related to their interactional aspects in argumentative discussions. The theoretical part of the thesis is written in the style of a literature review, beginning with an explanation of basic terminology of speech acts and defining the illocutionary force and its indicators. It also provides a detailed comparison of three different approaches to the analysis of speech acts and describes their roles using the model of a critical discussion. The analytical part of the thesis focuses on the practical application of the theoretical concepts. It defines the rules of online debates, describes their phases and provides an analysis of boosters and hedges and speech acts based on transcripts of the debates. The results of the analysis are displayed in tables, supplemented with illustrative examples and then discussed.
