Cultural Trauma of the Invasion in 1968 in Broadcasting of Czech Television in the Years 1990-2015
Chudomelová, Lenka ; Mlynář, Jakub (advisor) ; Šubrt, Jiří (referee)
(in English) The bachelor thesis examines the concept of cultural trauma in relation to the invasion of armies of the Warsaw Pact to Czechoslovakia in August 1968. It is focused on the commemoration broadcasting of the Czech television in 1990-2015. A frame analysis was used and ten issue-specific frames were found. Half of the frames had features of cultural trauma and the traumatic frames were articulated more often than the non-traumatic ones. The negotiation of interpretation of the event took place in three phases since 1990: in the first phase the August 1968 is used as an instrument for emphasizing of a distance between the old and new regimes and for national unification against the old socialist regime. In the second phase the universal importance of the Prague Spring and its violent ending was suppressed and the feeling of overcoming was dominant. In the third phase the event became significant again and the events of the August 1969 were separated from the narrative as specific and also traumatic. The events of the August 1968 were used as parallels to various current problems (wars, relations to world powers and also internal political situations) and it seems that the August 1968 is one of the important cultural points of reference.

Vinařická, Anna Marie ; Dobiášová, Karolína (advisor) ; Kotrusová, Miriam (referee)
This thesis aims at the development of the Czech asylum policy from the year 2000 to the year 2016. Asylum policy is an area that isn't in the center of the public concern for most of the time and only few actors take part in this policy. However, we can say that currently, because of the events such as the refugee crisis, the asylum policy is becoming a very ongoing topic and plays a crucial role in the public discourse. For this and other reason, in this thesis I am researching the development of asylum policy, explanation and description of changes that have happened. The development of asylum policy in the period is analyzed first the terms of practical changes, that are caused by the legislative or important events. This consists of the identification of particular periods, as well as their characteristic features. The analysis is also made in the theoretical perspective: Punctuated Equilibrium Theory (PET) and frame theory are used. The PET is suitable for explaining changes in the policy process, that can possibly occur after long periods of stability. Framing is an important feature of the PET. For the purpose of this thesis, framing is also used as a method of analysis of the negotiations in the parliamentary debates that concern the legislative of the asylum policy. The frames that are used...

Novotná, Lucie ; Nekola, Martin (advisor) ; Morávek, Jan (referee)
This thesis, New Psychoactive Substances in British Drug Policy Discourse addresses new psychoactive substances (NPS) in drug policy discourse in Great Britain between 2000-2014. It focuses on the identification of individual frames and aims to understand the different perspectives NPS can be framed in The theoretical framework of this thesis is based on the idea of social constructivism and Frame Theory. On this basis, the thesis identifies individual sponsors, the general characteristics of the problem, the injured party, the public policy implications and the value base. It identifies four frames which are present in the discourse. The first, called Fragmented, does not perceive NPS as a comprehensive problem, but as individually occurring substances. The second frame the Prohibitionist wishes to tackle the issue of NPS using new tools of prohibition. The third one, the Regulatory frame is strongly polarized towards the previous frame and wants to solve the NPS issue by creating a legally regulated market for psychoactive substances. The last, Wicked frame, perceives NPS as an unstructured problem, therefore it cannot be solved by one measure. This frame favors an expert debate and evidence in order to find the optimal solution. The thesis puts the issue into context and focuses on NPS...

Theoretical support for answering questions set forth by this thesis was a frame analysis, which Rein and Schön conceptualized on the field of public policy. Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University in Prague Institute of Sociological Studies, Department of Sociology Bc. Richard Lukáš Obstacles of improvement in pre-graduate teacher education: qualitative case study of faculty of education (Master Thesis) Consultant: doc. PhDr. Arnošt Veselý, Ph.D. Prague 2016 Abstract Institutional and organizational context of teacher training on faculties of education is not sociologically well developed topic, even though it is essential topic for the future of society. The goal of this work is to explore where are obstacles of improvement of teacher training on faculties of education in Czech Republic. In the institutional view, the main obstacles are several external factors (e.g. state funding, role of Accreditation Commission etc.); specific history of teacher training in Czech Republic; structure of the faulty and organization of the studies there; and the...

Representation of Animals in the Czech media - Blesk, MF Dnes
Kratochvílová, Jana ; Novák, Arnošt (advisor) ; Křeček, Jan (referee)
The diploma thesis deals with the relationship between humans and animals in contemporary society. Formerly animals were a part of everyday human life but with the advent of modern society, the relationship between man and animal weakens. Today the situation is such that people increasingly form the relationship with animals only through the media. Therefore, the aim of practical research was to determine how and in what context animals are represented in the Czech media, specifically in two selected newspapers - Blesk and MF Dnes. To achieve a comprehensive view on the subject, the work combined two basic approaches to research - qualitative and quantitative. Main method is a qualitative frame analysis during which frames of representing animals that occur in these two newspapers were formulated, described and interpreted. To complement and quantify the information gathered in qualitative analysis, quantitative content analysis was also made. Among others, the results offer us a reflection how we currently think about animals and what role they play in our lives and in life of the whole society.

The analysis is focused on qualitative research of selected articles using method of grounded theory. With this method it comes to interpretation of the Greek financial crisis in Czech media, detailed understanding of analyzed texts and setting up basic means of framing that are used by journalists. Quantitative analysis is exploring selected population of articles in specific period of time and answering basic research questions (How was crisis framed?
