Comparative analysis of News Broadcasting on Czech Television and TV Nova during the fire in Bohemian Switzerland
Dumbrovská, Zuzana ; Kruml, Milan (advisor) ; Štoll, Martin (referee)
The thesis focuses on the comparison of noon and evening news spots in Czech Television and TV Nova. The aim is to find out how much broadcasting time is devoted to the fire in Bohemian Switzerland, which is considered to be one of the largest and worst fires in the Czech Republic. We examine the period from the outbreak of the fire for approximately a week, when the situation is still on going (more precisely 24.7. - 31.7.2022). We analyze the following sessions: Události and Televizní noviny, Zprávy ve 12 and Polední Televizní noviny. We will use a quantitative analysis to provide clear, accurate and verifiable results. In addition to numerical analysis, we will also focus on the order of individual news items in the broadcast and compare events in Bohemian Switzerland with other events that have occurred in Czech Republic and around the world. The aim is to determine whether the media is subject to campaignibility, which means that media favors a particular issue over others, regardless of their actual importance. The results of this thesis could be used for further analyses in the future, which could include a larger research period and more media types.

Šafránková, Tereza ; Jirků, Jan (advisor) ; Osvaldová, Barbora (referee)
This thesis aims to explain the concept of information bias and to demonstrate its concrete manifestations in the main evening newscasts of ČT24 and CNN Prima News. The background material will deal with the profiling of the media image of the functioning of the presidential office of Miloš Zeman. The material will be drawn from the period from May 3, 2020, when the news station CNN Prima News began its broadcast, to the first quarter of 2022. As part of the analysis, the thesis also takes into account the profiling of the media image of the presidential office of Miloš Zeman. The aim of the thesis is to highlight the ways in which the selected programmes violate the concept of information quality and...

Matute, Kristýna ; Nečas, Vlastimil (advisor) ; Miessler, Jan (referee)
The thesis explores ways of constructing the security threat from the covid-19 epidemic in Czech print news. The analysis is based on social constructivism, according to which the media selectively selects topics, actors and certain aspects of events into the news. The research aims to identify the manifestations of securitization in the Czech news coverage of covid-19 over a period of one year using quantitative content analysis. It concentrates on the presence of securitization frameworks, war metaphors, and alarming testimonies from the actors interviewed.
Trump vs. Biden - Which side chose Czech TV's stations?
Kratochvíl, Michal ; Křeček, Jan (advisor) ; Nečas, Vlastimil (referee)
The US presidential election is undoubtedly the most important foreign policy event regularly covered by the Czech media. In the case of the latter, the battle for the White House became one of the main topics of autumn 2020. All three main national broadcasters - TV Nova, CT and TV Prima - joined the battle for viewers. For the first time in history, the election results were broadcast simultaneously on these three TV stations. But what was the practice in the Czech media. In the United States, it is quite standard for media houses to lean towards one of the candidates, that the coverage is pro-Democratic or pro-Republican. This thesis examined how this phenomenon manifested itself in Czech TV stations. Thus, the research questions focused on the number of reports on each candidate, their tone, and the total time devoted to the election itself and to both candidates. Based on the data collection, the thesis assessed that TV stations did not give equal space to both candidates. By far more space was given to Donald Trump at the expense of Joe Biden. Moreover, Trump was more often portrayed in a negative sense. In this respect, Czech Television was the least balanced Czech TV station, while TV Prima was the best. However, it in turn offered the least American election coverage, with TV Nova having...

The theoretical part defines the basic concepts and theories related to the social and media construction of reality, media image and media logic. The contextual part introduces in rough outlines the personality of Václav Havel. The methodological part deals with the specifics of the news text service offered by Czech News Agency and presents the research methods used. The research part presents the results of the analysis. These show that the number of news items mentioning Havel does not tend to decrease over time, but responds to events in society. The...

Hadbavniková, Ivana ; Romancov, Michael (advisor) ; Charvát, Jan (referee)
The topic of this diploma thesis is fake news as a current security and political problem. The term fake news is not officially codified. This diploma thesis will mainly focus on the theoretical definition of the term fake news and its differentiation from similar terms with which it's often interchanged incorrectly. Furthermore, this thesis will focus on social media, which can be used to spread fake news, as well as on the methods used for distinguishing fake news in the online world. The term fake news is also often connected with the term hybrid threat also referred to as a possible tool of the hybrid war, therefore this thesis will dedicate a section to these concepts and their critique. Fake news as a security and political issue will be observed within the example of the Czech Republic based on the selected definition of fake new with focus on the influence of Russia. First, actors who are possibly responsible for spread of fake news within the Czech Republic will be mapped, after which four specific websites and their reporting on certain news events in connection with Russia in the period from March 2020 until present will be examined.
