Religion and Society in the Quran and Their Relationship to Pre-Islamic Arabia
Oudová Holcátová, Barbara ; Chlup, Radek (advisor) ; Ťupek, Pavel (referee)
My goal in this thesis is to concentrate on the origins of Islam as we can understand it from the Quran itself, without using other, later sources. At the same time, I am interested in the relationship between pre-Islamic Arabia and early Islam. My method will be based primarily on Mary Douglas and her grid- group analysis. This British anthropologist attempted to analyse different social situations, in which various systems of understanding the world are formulated, using the parameters of "group" (the degree to which the borders of a group are defined) and "grid" (the number of rules by which an individual is controlled). These two parameters then made it possible for her to classify different cosmologies according to their ideas and their social reality. Applying this method, I will attempt to extract from the Quran - not primarily a narrative text - a description of the change of early Muslims' social situation and development of their religious ideas which is connected to it, and I will attempt to use Mary Douglas' anthropology to explain how such a transformation happened and could happen. Hromada, Jan ; Tuček, Milan (advisor) ; Kotík, Michal (referee)
Bachelor's thesis is about meaning of pubs as a group and ritualized activity for creating social identity of small groups of college students visiting the pub regularly. Thesis is trying to find out rules of creating integrity of groups in pub environment as traditional social institution. Work is based on social identification theory. General inductive approach was used for analysis on data gathered by half-structured interviews with young people, largely college students, who belongs to stable groups visiting a pub. The result was the pub seen as a place universally capable of group integration and able to build and keep group identities. Pub's meaning for identity creation is distinguished for two types of groups. Differences are made by different ways of creating groups and their common characteristics. Two types are distinguished based on their voluntary and unvoluntary common group characteristics. Differences of groups are also in openness, conflict vulnerability and the way of keeping group cohesion. Pub institution is described in ways important for groups, importance of social identity and how it can be seen in groups as mutual relationship of identity blending, creating their own relations with common activities, which are developed as cohesion improving tools.

Heldová, Barbora ; Kabele, Jiří (advisor) ; Matoušek, Petr (referee)
The following thesis focuses on several important aspects of communication and establishing relationships in palliative care, particularly in the environment of a day care center, which is established at the hospice. Partial aspects are represented by individual communication with clients, establishing positive relationship with them and activities and group work in the day care center. The thesis is divided into three main sections, whereby in the first one I deal with methodology of research and its implementation. In the second section I work with findings from the literature, combined with the practical knowledge gained from fieldwork. In conclusion I present the main findings of the observation conducted in the day care center and the hospice environment. Among the most important belong establishing communication with clients, process and communication phases and major factors affecting communication, which are demonstrated on certain cases of clients whose anamnesis differ from each other and thus we can prove the presence and influence of these factors. The same process I then chose to build relationships by finding certain factors that may influence the direction of development in the dynamics of relationship itself. The last part of the findings relates to activities in the day care...

Hurda, Jan ; Vomáčko, Ladislav (advisor) ; Kalkusová, Lucie (referee)
Title: Teambuilding activities and their impact on social cohesion work teams Aims: The aim of the thesis is to review the Social Cohesion Development Working Group and the relationships in the group after attending the course of outdoor activities. Methods: The research was based on the method of questionnaires. For gathering the data sociometric test was used, which was later evaluated. Furthermore, the method of semi-structured interview was employed. Results: Due to the failure of the research based on a survey, the results of the pre- test and post-test could not be compared and therefore could not draw up a sociomap This led to the implementation of a semi-structured interview with Mr. Bartůněk. The analysis of the interview provided us with an interesting insight into the problem concerning the application of such research onto groups with long-term participation in courses of outdoor activities and brought new valuable information. Key words: teambuidling, dynamics of small group, sociometry, sociomapping, group, interview
Mushrooms and Slag Heaps: Symbolic Processes and Practices of Group Boundaries Defining in Kukolice
Hrčková, Jana ; Grygar, Jakub (advisor) ; Frantová, Veronika (referee)
Presented paper is concerned with the issue of symbolic processes and practices used for creation of group boundaries of Kukolice community. The village inhabitants use various images and narratives in order to enact the boundaries in relation to the neighbouring Polish group. The main objective of the work is to analyze and understand the aforementioned practices. The paper uses theoretical background based on Cohen's Symbolic Construction of Community, Said's Orientalism and Elias's foreword to the Established and the Outsiders to interpret and analyze the empirical data. The research was carried out in a village inhabited by 390 people, located on the border with Poland in Frydlant area. Unstructured interviews, participant observations and analyses of media and official documents were mostly used during the research. Over the course of the analysis, Poles seem to merge with the images of mine and power plant, dirt, poverty and lesser degree of civilization that are all ascribed to the Polish territory behind the border, following Taussig's concept of mimetic faculty.
Critical review of Mary Douglas`s Witchcraft Theory
Vacíková, Tereza ; Chlup, Radek (advisor) ; Záhořík, Jan (referee)
This diploma thesis has two aims. The first one is exploration of "Grid/Group Theory" as it was presented by its author Mary Douglas in "Cultural Bias" (1978). According to this theory the thinking in the idiom of witchcraft is a product of an perception of specific social structure by an individual. The crux of this thesis should be comparation of social structure of few African societies with their cosmologies according to the empirical materials. It should proof the validation of the theory and also show some dificulties which the student must face during the application. The second aim is description of witchcraft and sorcery phenomenon and attempt to determine its essence or function for society.
