Brčáková, Anna ; Váška, Jan (advisor) ; Šlosarčík, Ivo (referee)
The presented bachelor thesis concerns the topic of the media image of the civil rights movement in Northern Ireland in the local period press. The method of qualitative analysis and concept of frames is being used for the examination of the articles dealing with the five chosen important events in the period of the movement in the years 1968 and 1969. The events consist of the Caledon protest, the first civil rights march, the civil rights march in Derry/Londonderry, the announcement of a reform five-point plan, and the march of the People's Democracy. The thesis aims to explore the differences in the media coverage of these events in the periodicals of various socio-political orientations. Therefore, the selected newspapers include the most read titles with different editorial policies - traditional unionist leaning The News Letter (Belfast Newsletter), nationalist The Irish News, and liberal unionist The Belfast Telegraph. The analysis takes into consideration the amount, length, and placement of the articles, which indicates the level of importance of the event for the periodical. The main focus, however, is dedicated to the stance of the newspapers on the movement. Therefore, a system of categories is used to indicate sympathy or antipathy for the events. Moreover, the frames used for the...

Válek, Filip ; Laufková, Veronika (advisor) ; Starý, Karel (referee)
This thesis explores how upper primary schoolers interpret characters of the popular series The Witcher by Andrzej Sapkowski. Given their reading experience and mental development, pupils at this age are becoming the series' target audience. The theoretical part of the thesis introduces the reader to the world of The Witcher through the life and work of its author. Model character descriptions are also provided. They attempt to complexly explore possible ways of describing select characters from the series through various means of characterization. In the practical part of the thesis, character typology is offered based on some key traits shared by certain characters. This typology is then used in a small-scale qualitative research done on readers who have read the series and are capable of interpreting its characters. Three main types of characters are introduced - protagonists (characters connected by their destiny), antagonists (characters capable of evil acts in the name of prophecy) and other characters who are connected with the protagonists by shared goals and heroic transformation. The aim of this study is to show how works of modern fantasy might be used in Czech literature classes and to compare pupils' interpretations with expectations of how characters might be perceived. Despite the...

Růst Mycobacterium smegmatis na agarovém médiu a agarovém médiu pokrytém celofánovou folií - morfologická a proteomová studie
Ramaniuk, Volha ; Weiser, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Beranová, Jana (referee)
Biofilm formation is one of the most common bacterial survival strategies. Majority of bacterial species are able to form these three-dimensional structures, including pathogens like Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Representatives of Mycobacterium genus widely occur in the nature, although they can cause serious problems when they appear in medical equipment and artificial replacements of the human body. Non-pathogenic Mycobacterium smegmatis mc2 155 was used as a model organism in our experiments. We investigated morphology of the three- and six-day-old colonies (in fact biofilms) on agar and agar covered with cellophane using Stereo microscope and Scanning Electron Microscope. We found that a type of surface as well as a carbon source has a great influence on the morphology of the M. smegmatis colonies. We isolated proteomes from the agar and cellophane cultures and from planktonic culture. Two-dimensional electrophoresis was used as the main proteomic method. Proteomic data were analyzed using PDQuest software. Then the sets of proteins detected by qualitative and quantitative analyses were compared using Venn diagrams. As a result, we recognized 7 unique proteins that might be specific for recognition and adhesion of bacteria to the cellophane, no unique protein in agar proteome and 46 unique...
