The use of eye-tracking in chemistry didactics research
Tóthová, Martina ; Rusek, Martin (advisor) ; Popelka, Stanislav (referee) ; Doulík, Pavel (referee)
This dissertation thesis is an annotated collection of academic texts and summarizes the author's contributions to research on the use of eye-tracking and problem solving in the context of science education. The thesis responds to the growing use of eye-tracking in education and provides a systematic review of the current state of knowledge. Primary research has focused on chemical problem solving by upper-secondary school students. Using eye-tracking and think-aloud, the students' solving process was analyzed. The results showed that the observed students had low ability to solve these problems and often relied on limiting strategies such as guessing. Based on the problems identified, an action research intervention was designed. Regular inclusion of tasks, progressive learning and formative feedback led to improvements in pupils' abilities. The problem-solving ability of prospective chemistry teachers was tested in a similar manner. In addition to eye-tracking and think-alouds, a semi-structured interview was included in the research. It showed that there are significant problems in problem solving for prospective chemistry teachers, especially understanding the assignment. The dissertation thesis summarizes the contributions of the articles and proposes solutions to improve the current situation.

The dissertation thesis deals with bases of establishing and maintaining authority in education from the perspective of student teachers in the international context. The thesis is divided into six chapters, the first three of which lay down its theoretical groundwork. In the first chapter the term authority is defined both generally and from the point of view of education, then it is classified and categorized, which is followed by an outline of possible dilemmas authority may cause in education. Nováková, Marie ; Krčmářová, Tereza (advisor) ; Hejlová, Helena (referee)
My diploma thesis deals with the issue of mental hygiene as a field of personality and vocational development of future primary teachers. The aim of theoretical part is to summarize the facts about teacher's profession, which are an argument for systematic mental hygiene development of teacher students. One of the goals is to describe the study of teaching as my respondents in empirical part are future teachers. The next aim is to find answers to what attitudes, knowledge and skills should teachers have to be able to prevent burnout syndrome, to be resistant to stress and to be active in their approach to personality and professional development. The practical part was realized by a mixed research among students of the primary teaching who are in the 1st and the 5th grade. The research questions were: What is the approach of the students of teaching to the personality development in the 1st grade and in the 5th grade? What are the competencies of the future primary teachers in the 1st grade and in the 5th grade in a burnout area? To what extent do the future primary teachers know in the 1st grade and in the 5th grade about the risk of burnout (what does it cause, what are the manifestations of burnout and how to prevent it)? Data were collected by the questionnaire method. My research shows that...

Hybšová, Aneta ; Teodoridis, Vasilis (advisor) ; Švecová, Milada (referee) ; Molnár, Josef (referee)
Especially in connection with the results of the PISA research, the literacy in the natural science field has been lately becoming the topic of scientific discussion. It had become apparent that Czech students attain lower levels of procedural knowledge and face difficulties in evaluation and planning of natural scientific research, when compared to student of other countries. In order to be able to make use of the synergy effect between the natural science literacy and statistical literacy, it is crucial for the students themselves to be literate in statistics. The presented doctoral dissertation focuses on the importance and the matter of statistical literacy among natural science and biology students of pedagogy. The goal of this dissertation is to describe the current state of statistical literacy among students of pedagogy in natural science field. In view of the complexity of the given task; sectional goals have been proposed and executed. Firstly, the expected attainment level among the first year students of universities and colleges is analyzed, with the use of contextual analysis of documents from the Framework educational programs for primary and secondary schools. This analysis shows, what statistical knowledge are pedagogy students of natural science and biology expected to have, based on the...
Analysis of the Use of Multimedia in Science Education
Odcházelová, Tereza ; Teodoridis, Vasilis (advisor) ; Vaníček, Jiří (referee) ; Kubiatko, Milan (referee)
Digital literacy is one of key competencies for lifelong learning. Although implementing multimedia (i.e. ICT) into the educational process has a global perspective, the curricular documents for compulsory school attendance in the Czech Republic (Rámcový vzdělávací program), Slovak Republic (Štátny vzdelávací program) and Germany (Bildungsstandards) do not emphasize this need. A review of the above mentioned documents indicated, that the general need to develop digital literacy of pupils across all school subjects is not formulated by these documents. Therefore, the personal opinions and beliefs of the teachers, their enthusiasm to use ICT, their level of computer literacy, school facilities and the approach of pupils to ICT, play the most important role with regard to the implementation of multimedia in the educational process. Accordingly, the combined research conducted by questionnaires and structured interviews, is aimed towards beliefs, opinions and experiences of pre-service and in-service teachers of biology and primary school pupils from the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Germany. The research has involved 422 Czech, 205 Slovak and 136 German in-service biology teachers and 222 Czech, 100 Slovak and 84 German pre-service teachers. The questionnaires were also addressed to 442 Czech pupils...
