Forbes magazine in terms of the political economy of communication: a critical analysis of a year of existence of the czech media market

Master thesis concerns itself with Czech edition Forbes magazine. Regarding the global media market today, journal Forbes without a doubt belongs to the fully respected periodical. Magazine Forbes has gained its reputation thru regular publishing business charts. Concept of this magazine was established on the stories of successful people. Thesis examines introduction of the journal on the Czech market and its first year of existence in the conditions of domestic media market. This view is based on political economical communication. The emphasis, in the Czech issue Forbes magazine, is put on the rise of success and identities thru political economical communication and its confrontation with cultural studies. In the frame of wider politico-economic context is part of the thesis dedicated to original American edition of the magazine, whose publisher owns the rights for publishing the magazine in Czech Republic. Thesis "Presentation of trends in aesthetic medicine in selected specialized Czech magazines Estetika and Health & Beauty" deals with representation and media portrayal of female beauty and a current lifestyle to which more and more women adhere. It is a lifestyle in which body care plays a significant role. This paper analyzes trends in the two most famous Czech magazines devoted to aesthetic dermatology and plastic surgery - Estetika and Health & Beauty. The work aims to analyze these two magazines and find out how they portray these selected trends and which methods they most frequently use to persuade women to undergo surgery. It also tries to expound media representations of ideal beauty and the influence of the media on people. With regard to the objectives the work is divided into three parts: theoretical part, methodological part and empirically analytical part, or more precisely, the research part. The theoretical part comprises the conception of beauty in connection to human body. It examines the development of ideal beauty and the perception of the female body throughout the centuries. Marketing management of sports brand Nike in the Czech Republic

Title: Marketing management of sports brand Nike in the Czech Republic Objectives: The aim of thesis is to describe and evaluate the current marketing management of sports brand Nike in the Czech Republic based on made qualitative analysis. The next point is to detect strengths and weaknesses. Then in the consequence of obtainable knowledge suggest new procedures and implements in marketing which can be used to improve marketing management of the brand. Methods: In this theses there was used a qualitative analysis (descriptive case study), witch was based on document analysis and interview with an employee of marketing department of company. Results: The results showed that marketing management of sports brand Nike in the Czech Republic is on a high level. This fact is mainly a consequence of its global and stable position on a worldwide market. For the reason, that its daughter company Nike CZECH, s. r. o. has been presented on Czech market since 2011, there are many possibilities to improve its marketing management with respect to local specifics. The development of Jaromír Jagr's media image in 1994-2014

This thesis deals with the analysis of the media image of a hockey player Jaromir Jagr during the past 20 years (1994-2014), when he was a significant figure in the Czech national hockey team and one of the most outstanding athletes of the country. Qualitative analysis of the texts subjected primarily from three major newspapers (Sport, Mladá Fronta DNES, Blesk) is supplemented by examples from books and television programs. The research sample is defined by periods in which Jaromir Jagr have had publicity mainly due to the events in his sports career. Analysed periods mostly connect to major tournaments of hockey national team or to change of Jagr's employer. With the help of specific examples of each of the time periods this thesis describes the evolution of reporting about Jagr in Czech mass media. In terms of media theory it classifies analyzed media exposure with identifying myths and elements of celebritization contained in the texts. They make the media picture of Jagr different during the time. The analysis shows that the media image of Jaromir Jagr has undergone significant changes during the period. This master thesis "Visual presentation of presidential candidates on Facebook" provides an image analysis of presidential candidates on social network in the period before and during the election in 2013. The theoretical part tackles the role of visual political communication, including image values and ideology, the relationship of the image and the text or media image research and seamlessly continues the formation of the political media image in modern political communication. The following quantitative content analysis analyses the context of the visual media image building within individual profiles of candidates, evaluates the work with images and text components, discusses the question, who creates the media profile of candidates and in combination with the qualitative image analysis reveals specific features of media profile building of individual candidates.
Construction of the imagination of the First republic from the point of view of two generations explained by an example of the czech TV series "First republic"

The diploma thesis "Construction of the imagination of the first republic era from the point of view of two generations explained by an example of the Czech TV series První republika" focuses on the mechanisms in which the TV series co-constructs the audience perception of the given era. The series was broadcasted from January 2014 untill June 2014 on the Czech Televisions program. The thesis aims to show how the younger generations of TV viewers construct the period in which they did not live through their consuming of media content. This is compared with the old-timers who could compare their own experience with the series. The audiences of both generations are equally scrutinized and consequently compared. The theoretical part introduces the theses about social and media construction of reality accompanied by audience cultivation theories. The final analysis of the acquired data is based on these theories but it aims to invent a new hypothesis. The subject matter of the research part is analysed by the qualitative method of the grounded theory as Strauss and Glaser understand it. Comparing misanhropist talk show Jana Krause and philantrhropist talk show Marek Eben's Na plovárně

The theoretical section of the thesis Comparison of the misanthropic Show Jana Krause and the philanthropic Mark Eben's show Na plovárně aims to characterize the talk show genre both abroad and in the Czech Republic. It briefly outlines the development of the genre and its arrival in the Czech television stations. It also gives a definition of a presenter, describes the ways of communication, construction of the interviews with the guests, their selection, introduces Jan Kraus and Marek Eben and characterises both talk shows - Na Plovárně and Show Jana Krause. The practical section deals with an analysis of production in which interviews with representatives of both production teams are analysed. A qualitative analysis aims to answer the question: "How do the philanthropic and misanthropic concepts of the talk show differ, from the perspective of content and production intentions?" The conclusion contains a summary of the collected data.
Media and criminal procedure

The theoretical part of the Bachelor thesis covers legal circumstances regarding a media activity of providing information about criminal procedures. First, it describes the principles of the constitutional law, specifically, the right of information, the prohibition of censorship, and freedom of speech. Then, it analyzes the concept of a criminal procedure and its basic principles. Mainly, it describes the public policy of the trial and the presumption of innocence. The main part of the thesis analyzes individual provisions of the Code of Criminal Procedure, which regulate the range of publishable information about criminal procedures, the offender and the victim. Separately, the same problem is described according to the Code of Judiciary with Youth. The practical part of this thesis uses quantitative and qualitative content analyses of the articles from two Czech magazines - Právo and Blesk. The quantitative analysis examines the topic of this thesis through statistical and mathematical methods. The qualitative analysis researches individual articles and focuses on compliance with the law.
The frame analysis of the Greek financial crisis in the context of 2010 Czech Parliament election in Czech printed media

The thesis examines media interpretation of the Greek financial crisis in selected Czech media. It analyzes framing of this issue in Czech daily newspapers MF DNES, Právo, Hospodářské noviny and Lidové noviny in period of the first five months of 2010 (1.1 - 28.5.2010). Theoretical part of this thesis is based on Robert Etman's concept of framing, which was defined in early 90's. The main research question is which aspects of the Greek financial crisis were selected, and/or emphasized by Czech media and what interpretations were created using these constructions. The analysis is focused on qualitative research of selected articles using method of grounded theory. With this method it comes to interpretation of the Greek financial crisis in Czech media, detailed understanding of analyzed texts and setting up basic means of framing that are used by journalists. Quantitative analysis is exploring selected population of articles in specific period of time and answering basic research questions (How was crisis framed? How daily newspapers interpretation varied? In which way was the crisis interpreted from the perspective of Czech political scene? How did framing changed in time?).
