Hypšmanová, Pavlína ; Skýbová, Jana (advisor) ; Brůnová, Linda (referee)
This diploma thesis entitled Teaching angiosperms at selected primary schools - comparison of ecological and systematic approach contains in the theoretical part a brief description of angiosperms and the most frequently mentioned families in textbooks for primary schools for better orientation. Furthermore, the work deals with two ways of teaching biology at primary schools - ecological and systematic approach, and the characteristics of teaching methods and organizational forms usable in the teaching of angiosperms. The thesis also includes an analysis of the topic in the new RVP for basic education, which reveals the deletion of two expected outcomes in the thematic area of plant biology compared to the older version of the RVP from 2017 and a comparison of two selected school educational programs. Part of the text is also an analysis of selected textbooks for primary schools with the topic of angiosperms, including comparison of the number of families and measuring the didactic equipment with a focus on the presentation of the curriculum. With the help of interviews with selected teachers, information about their approach to teaching and the implementation of teaching in the given concept is subsequently ascertained. Among other things, qualitative research focused on the perception of the...
Comparison of Biology Textbooks used in the Czech Republic and Bulgaria with Special Attention to Parasitology
Glavanakovová, Marie ; Andreska, Jan (advisor) ; Hanel, Lubomír (referee)
This diploma thesis aims to compare Czech and Bulgarian Biology textbooks for primary and secondary schools with a special focus on parasitic organisms. The goal was to determine the differences in the processing of textbooks and whether the topic of parasitology is comprehended fundamentally different. The evaluation was performed as a qualitative analysis as the textbooks were scored according to pre-set criteria. Furthermore, in the quantitative part of the research, the occurrence of individual parasites in the examined textbooks was monitored. The analysis also focused on the comparison of educational systems and educational programs taking parasitic organisms into consideration. In my work, I came to the conclusion that both regions have modern textbooks with a high standard but in Bulgaria there is a better integration of health education in textbooks than in the Czech Republic. Last but not least, the work describes significant differences in secondary school curricula.
Biology Textbooks Evaluation from the Perspectives of Teachers
Šindelářová, Kateřina ; Hlaváčová, Lucie (advisor) ; Svobodová, Silvie (referee)
This diploma thesis focuses on selected textbooks used for teaching natural history and their evaluation by teachers who work with them. The work aims to find out teachers opinions on the quality and practical use of natural history textbooks from the publishing house "Fraus, Nová škola - Duha and SPN". The work is divided into two parts. In the theoretical part, the basic concepts related to textbooks are explained, and attention is paid to their evaluation and use possibilities. The research uses a questionnaire survey method to evaluate selected natural history textbooks by teachers. It focuses on specific work with a textbook, on topics that, according to the respondents, are not appropriately treated, and topics that are entirely missing or need not be in the book. The subsequent analysis of the collected data shows teachers' different approaches to using the textbook; some share only selected topics with their students, and homework assignments may also vary. In addition, most teachers think that not all topics are handled correctly, nor are they all genuinely essential. KEYWORDS textbook, natural history, topic, use, Fraus, Nová škola - Duha, SPN
Cell Biology in Czech Lower-secondary Biology Textbooks
Zupko, Jakub ; Dvořáková, Radka (advisor) ; Kuba, Radim (referee)
Cell biology is a dynamic but also complex and abstract scientific field. Therefore, it is crucial that teachers have sufficient quality teaching material to teach it. This paper aims to assess the quality of the cell biology chapters in five Czech textbooks for 6th-grade science. Specifically, the textbooks of Fraus, Nová Škola, Prodos, SPN and Taktik publishers are the set under study. The content analysis of the textbooks focuses on six aspects: scope of the material, terminology, difficulty of the explanatory text (measured by the Hrabí method), content accuracy, the cognitive difficulty of the accompanying tasks (according to Bloom's taxonomy) and the nature of the non- verbal component of the textbooks. Differences were found in the didactic equipment and the correctness of the content of individual textbooks. In four of the five explanatory texts it is possible to find incorrect information (at least three and at most twelve false statements). Most of the accompanying tasks are aimed at the lowest levels of Bloom's taxonomy. The nonverbal component on average occupies almost one-third of the page space, with the most common type of pictorial component being a sketch. The most suitable textbook, based on the examined criteria, is the textbook published by SPN, followed by the textbook...
The Incorporation of Inquiry-based Science Education at Wood Species Botany Discipline for Upper Primary School
Dobisíková, Anežka ; Skýbová, Jana (advisor) ; Pavlasová, Lenka (referee)
The diploma thesis deals with inquiry-based education (IBE) for upper primary school in science, especially in the context of botany of woody species. The theoretical part briefly summarizes the history of science education in the context of the development of inquiry-based education, maps the concept of inquiry-based teaching and presents the possibilities of its use. It also characterizes the teaching of science at the second level of upper primary school with a focus on botany of woody plants and describes the representation of the topic IBE elements in selected textbooks and workbooks. The method of analysis of the teaching material revealed that the selected publications do not directly provide IBE tasks. However, they do provide tasks that could be further used research-wise. In the next section, research is presented to determine whether IBE elements are used in the educational programmes of selected members of the Union of Botanic Gardens. Based on the questionnaire survey and interview method, it can be concluded that the selected botanic gardens do not actively include IBE in their teaching programmes. The last practical part of the thesis contains the methodology and description of the implementation of a research activity on the topic of botany of trees in school named "Evergreen trees"...
Teaching of parasitism in elementary and secondary schools
Čiháková, Kateřina ; Mourek, Jan (advisor) ; Ehler, Edvard (referee)
Main aim of this master thesis is to map the situation of parasitism teaching in elementary and grammar schools. Thats why it contains analysis of reachable elementary and grammar school textbooks - it informs about various kinds of rating the textbooks, which can help both - current and future teachers of biology - to better know and identify reachable textbooks and choose the right ones for the parasitism teaching. It also contains test results of students parasitism knowledge, which are generally very good. Anyway they should learn much more about parazite's manipulation of their host behavior. Other part of my master thesis shows the results of grammar school teachers-filled questionnaires. All questionnaire results (teachers' and students') show that there can be an improvement in parasitism teaching. In next section you can find the Framework Education Programme analysis, own educational programme draft - workbooks, didactic games and powerpoint presentations. Thanks to the realization of teaching the parazites manipulation of their host behavior I found out that students' interest in the topic is quite big so it would be a shame not to share this newly explored area of parasitism with them. Key words: parasite, host, manipulation hypothesis, questionnaires, parasitism teaching
Geography and natural history curriculums integration for secondary schools - example of the living nature of America
Sovičková, Michaela ; Mourek, Jan (advisor) ; Blažová, Kateřina (referee)
Classical frontal teaching, where pupils are supposed to listen to the teacher and make notes is becoming stereotypical. Therefore I decided to focus on a topic where I can apply more teaching methods both in Geography lessons and Biology ones. The goal of this work was to create a teaching guide including necessary materials covering the topic of American natural lanscapes and afterwards to evaluate the contribution of these activities. The teaching materials were tested in two classes in The Basic School in Dolní Břežany. Both classes underwent a pretest, the first posttest (immediately after the experimental lessons), the second posttest (six weeks after the experimental lessons) and pupils also tried activities in which they had to apply their achieved knowledge. The data were evaluated using statistical analyses where the results showed a progress of gained knowledge between the pretest and the first posttest, whereas their knowledge did not significantly differ between the first and second posttest. It can be concluded that pupils broadened their knowledge, which was deeper than at the beginning and the pupils were able to retain this knowledge for a longer time. Key words: North America, South America, natural lanscapes, Biology, Geography, activating teaching methods, curriculum integration
