The last drop - a series of articles about alcohol
Černá, Anna ; Trunečka, Ondřej (advisor) ; Čeňková, Jana (referee)
The Czech Republic is among countries with the highest alcohol consumption per capita. Alcohol is widely spread and tolerated in Czech society, and both public debate and media fail to reflect its negative effects. Therefore, excessive alcohol use and addiction have become taboo topics with many prejudices and stereotypes. The aim of this bachelor's thesis is to create a series of articles that address some less-discussed issues related to alcohol consumption. The theoretical part of the thesis focuses on alcohol addiction, its impacts and treatment. It then analyses the media coverage of the issue, highlighting its shortcomings and offering possible improvements. Special attention is paid to the concept of social journalism as a tool for handling various social problems. The methodological part specifies the journalistic genres (interview, feature, and commentary) used in the practical part. It also describes the creation of the series of articles, choice of topics, interviewees, use of information, and ethical problems that arose during writing. Finally, the practical part of the thesis consists of five texts which address mental health, the relationship between children and alcohol, Czech beer culture, gender aspects of alcohol consumption, and abstinence.

Jiřík, Kryštof ; Lovaš, Karol (advisor) ; Skalický, Matěj (referee)
In my practical bachelor's thesis, for which I have chosen the format of a radio documentary, I focus on the education program at the Faculty of Social Sciences of Charles University - the Summer and Winter School of Journalism. In the radio documentary, I delve into its history and current state, from its inception to the most recent event in the summer of 2023. Due to the format of the document, I have decided to primarily convey this topic through the examination of archival materials. In addition to tracing the development, I also aim to depict the atmosphere of the Summer and Winter School of Journalism during the specific time period. The length of the radio documentary is 26 minutes, 55 seconds. In the theoretical part, I will then explore the format of the radio documentary itself. I will analyze this format, its history and current state, its specific characteristics, who the notable Czech radio documentarists are, and how this genre is represented in our country. In the second part, I will focus on the specific tools and methods that I used in creating the radio documentary. Additionally, I will include the complete script of the entire documentary. The total number of pages in the theoretical section is 31, attachements included.

Benjamin Košut - the life and work of an evangelical pastor
Sedliský, Filip ; Zdichynec, Jan (advisor) ; Pokorná, Magdaléna (referee)
The work deals with the life and work of the evangelical pastor Benjamin Košut (1822-1898). Košut served at the congregation in Borová, Velenice, but mainly at St. Clement's in Prague. During his service in Prague, he contributed to the periodical Českobratrský hlas, of which he was also responsible editor. At this time, among other things, he took part in a dispute with his opponents, who were inclined towards the neo- Calvinist approach to the reformed faith. Košut was suspended for his views and had to defend himself in disciplinary proceedings. During the proceedings, he was found guilty, but after signing a written undertaking, he was allowed to return to his pastoral activity. Košut is in many ways an interesting personality. He had a thoroughly rationalistic approach to faith, he was not afraid to break certain dogmas. He saw God as a loving fatherly figure who considers people his children, rejecting the completely negative anthropology of orthodox Calvinism. For Košut, Jan Hus was a great inspiration and probably the greatest personality of the Czech reformation, to whom he dedicated many sermons full of admiration. Košut's Christianity was also very patriotic. The work is based to a lesser extent on secondary literature, but also mainly on the analysis of primary sources. It contains an...
AI and fact-check journalism - the pitfalls of the search for truth by artificial intelligence
Haber, Josef ; Moravec, Václav (advisor) ; Klimeš, David (referee)
The diploma thesis entitled AI & fact-check journalism - the pitfalls of the search for truth by artificial intelligence examines the connections between contemporary journalism, fact-checking, and artificial intelligence tools in the post-truth era. It describes the relationships between objectivity and interpretation and explores the problem of dichotomy between fact and value. The theoretical discussion is then translated into a practical issue using the journalistic discipline of fact-checking. Artificial intelligence tools and their potential for journalism are introduced. The practical part of the thesis focuses on experiments with an AI tool that automates fact-checking. The tool is tested using four alternative knowledge bases represented by Czech media datasets. All models show the expected response to ontologically truthful and false claims, confirming truths and debunking lies. Subsequently, the true opinions of the models about social reality are tested. The results demonstrate that the models adopt the opinions published in the datasets. However, it was not possible to trace systematic model opinions towards polarization in thematic areas from the results. The thesis includes suggestions for future changes in experiments. In the conclusion, the results are linked with both practical...
