Teachers' perspective on the development of children's intrinsic motivation in kindergartens: Comparison of alternative and classical approaches.
ZAREZOVA, Eva
This bachelor's thesis is dedicated to the intrinsic motivation of preschool-aged children and the comparison of its development across various types of kindergartens. The theoretical part examines the concepts of motivation, needs, autonomy, Waldorf pedagogy, and Montessori pedagogy. In the practical part, observational studies and semi-structured interviews with educators are used to compare approaches to intrinsic motivation in children in four different kindergartens.
Self-directed learning as an essential part of professional development of a language-oriented professional
Intrinsic Motivation and Flow Experience in Primary Art School Pupils
Komárek, Tomáš ; Morávková Krejčová, Lenka (referee) ; Gillernová, Ilona (referee)
The thesis deals with experiencing flow and intrinsic motivation of pupils at Primary Art School. The aim of the research was to find out the following: to what extent are pupils of Primary Art School intrinsically motivated towards music, to what extent the pupils experience flow while playing a musical instrument and what psychological aspects are related to this type of experience. The target group of respondents represented pupils from musical branch at the age from 11 to 18 (N = 108). The data were obtained from three questionnaires (Flow, Teacher, and Motivation Questionnaire). The first two questionnaires were created for the purpose of this thesis. Motivation questionnaire was translated from English version of SIMS questionnaire (The Situational Motivation Scale). The research proved that pupils of Primary Art School think that they experience flow quite often. Most of the observed variables are significantly related to flow, on the contrary the relationship was less close. The exception was a relationship between flow and intrinsic motivation where closer connection was established. It was not proved that flow experience of Primary Art School pupils relates to participation in any musical groups, range of homework, length of playing musical instruments or gender of the respondents. Learner Autonomy in English classes at a Czech Secondary Technical School
Minakova, Irina ; Jettmarová, Zuzana (advisor) ; Hanušová, Světlana (referee) ; Bilanová, Markéta (referee)
This dissertation explores the efficacy of the learner autonomy (LA) principles implemented in secondary technical school EFL classes through project-based units incorporated into the conventional four-year language curriculum (2011-2015). This integrated approach remains uncommon in a Czech secondary technical school, even though it suggests a teaching model that enhances ELA and increases communicative competence and motivation among learners. A mixed-method design based on longitudinal four-cycle action research and quasi-experiment approaches was selected (1) to examine the changes in self-regulation and academic achievement development over time; (2) to investigate the efficacy of autonomous projects systematically applied within the assigned treatment group (TG), and (3) to compare the results of the treatment and control groups as to their self-regulation and academic achievement development. For the quantitative strand, a structured Self-Regulation Questionnaire (SRQ-A) and a series of academic tests were administered which were consequently analysed through null hypothesis statistical testing (NHST). The instruments employed within the quasi-experiment were focused on the following two major questions: (1) whether there was correlation between self- regulation and academic achievement...
Values and motivation in youth basketball
Jauernig, Jonáš ; Crossan, William Morea (advisor) ; Mudrák, Jiří (referee)
Title: Values and motivation in youth basketball Objectives: The main goal of this work is, to use an electronic questionnaire, to find out the importance and perceived frequency of determinants of entertainment, namely for youth basketball players aged 12 to 19 years, their parents and coaches. Methods: A quantitative method was chosen for the research, in the form of a questionnaire. It was based on a previously conducted study in the field of youth sports. Specifically, it is Fun Intergration Theory, which examines the determinants of fun. Results: The most important and most common dimensions of fun are: Positive team dynamics, Positive Coaching and Trying Hard. The least important and least frequent dimension is with a big difference Style. The most important determinant Having a coach who is a positive role model. The determinant of Earning medals or trophies was the least important, which also has the lowest frequency of occurrence. There are certain patterns among the perceptions of parents, coaches and players, especially in the dimensions of Positive Coaching, Trying Hard and Game Time Support. Keywords: youth sports, fun determinants, intrinsic motivation, values, sports dropout
Motivation in sport: Relationship to global self-esteem and physical self-perception
Harbichová, Ivana ; Slepička, Pavel (advisor) ; Štochl, Jan (referee) ; Pavelková, Isabella (referee)
The main objective of this thesis is to verify the relationship of the contextually specific motivation in sport to a global self-esteem and possible mediation effects of the physical self-perceptions in this relationship. To achieve this objective six individual studies were conducted. First, we focused on the translation of diagnostic instruments: the Sport Motivation Scale (SMS; Pelletier et al., 1995) and the Social Physique Anxiety Scale (SPAS; Hart, Leary, Rejeski, 1989) into the Czech language. Next, the validity and reliability of the scores obtained by Czech versions of the instruments were examined. Based on the results of the structural equation modeling and using a known-difference evidence validity approach we concluded that both translated instruments may be useful as a valid and reliable diagnostic tools for measuring different kinds of motivation in sport (SMS) and negative physical self-perception (social physical anxiety - SPAS). Using structural equation modeling, we also concluded that different types of motivation in sport (which vary in degree of relative autonomy of the subject) affect specific self-esteem associated with the body, as well as the evaluation of one's self at the global level. Relationship of the sport motivation and the global self-esteem was largely mediated...
Use of Modern Technologies in Physical Education at Schools
Palička, Pavel ; Fialová, Ludmila (advisor) ; Mužík, Vladislav (referee) ; Bureš, Vladimír (referee)
Pavel Palička - Use of Modern Technologies in Physical Education at Schools Abstract Problem: The use of digital technologies in education is one of the possibilities how to support the pupils' motivation. Physical education (PE) offers a variable environment where various types of actual wearable technology (smart phone, tablet etc.) can be used. No integrated overview of possibilities and practical recommendations for the use of available digital technologies (DT) in physical education has been published. There is also lack of research results measuring impact of their use on everyday school practice. Hypothesis: It was hypothesized that pupils who receive innovated experimental education programme using digital technologies will have better relationship to PE and greater intrinsic motivation to exercise. Objective: The purpose of this study was to identify changes in intrinsic motivation and relationship to physical activity in physical education triggered by an experimental DT- involving education programme. Methods: The research was carried out in form of a quasi-experiment conducted in physical education lessons in school years 6-9. The research sample (N=237) consisted of two groups. A group of 119 pupils in experimental lessons was compared with a control group of 118 pupils who went through...
