An Analysis of Journalistic Source Work on the Example of Reporting on the French President Nicolas Sarkozy in the Years 2007-2010

The French President Nicolas Sarkozy is presented in the long term as the head of state with a strong media influence and strong media manipulation ability. This tendency is moreover not rare in the field of politics, and it can have a strong impact on society. That is why it seems appropriate to devote attention to this topic within media studies. The aim of this thesis is to find out, based on the content-study of three Czech national newspapers, how Czech journalists deal with the topic of the French presidency - do they have their specific sources, how do they cope with information from the Élysée Palace, do they use the same sources, do they create stereotypes about Nicolas Sarkozy etc. Qualitative analysis of the articles is supplemented by findings from interviews with the journalists themselves. The thesis has two main parts. In the first one, the overview of the available research in the field of agenda-setting and news coverage sociology is offered, literature is also presented, which deals with the influence of President Sarkozy and the issues affecting French journalists' work. Germany and the Eastern Enlargement of the Schengen Area

This bachelor thesis deals with the preconditions, the process and the consequences of the so-called Eastern enlargement of the Schengen Area in 2007, with special regard to the Federal Republic of Germany, its role in the process as well as the advantages and disadvantages connected with it. After a short introductory summary of functioning principles and history of the Schengen Area from 1985 to 2011 there is a chapter dedicated to the process of the enlargement by nine new countries. Nevertheless the main attention is paid to Poland and the Czech Republic, two Eastern neighbours of Germany. The third chapter analyzes in detail the consequences of the enlargement, especially its influence on the development of criminality and illegal immigration in Germany or the police co-operation among the countries concerned. Apart from the all- German dimension the thesis focuses on the specific situation in individual federal states on the eastern border - Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Brandenburg, Saxony and Bavaria. Technologies together with so-called new media are one of the most important matters of contemporary media studies and mass communication theory. Many experts focus on their impact and try to find out and describe their effects on audience, media content, work of journalists or professional methods etc. Considering new technologies and regarding formation of absolutely new on-line medium we can ask how journalistic genres cope with fast evolution in the field of media. As the time goes, genres can change, which may be caused by many factors. New technologies, innovations and especially new medium can take part in such process. This thesis focuses on shift of Czech news service genre composition and formation of new journalist standards in press due to the new technologies introduced into media production in years 1989-1995. It also concerns with historical context and social changes after 1989. After all, these changes together with media transformation into liberal democratic model had an essential impact on news making as well as innovations and modernization of newsrooms. Genre metamorphosis is shown on the example of Mladá fronta Dnes.
Media publicity of World floorball championship in years 1998 and 2008

The aim of this Bachelor's thesis, called "Media interest in the World Floorball Championships of 1998 and 2008", is to compare the media image of the World Floorball Championships in 1998 and 2008 in the daily newspapers Mladá Fronta Dnes and Sport. By means of quantitative and qualitative analysis it examines how intensively the media paid attention to the World Floorball Championship and how they reported it. The comparison of media image is done among the papers in the studied years and between years 1998 and 2008. The quantitative section is focused on classification of the genre, location, use of photographs, use of graphics, etc., and the gualitative section is focused on the ocurrence of patterns, which offer a way of perception of the presented information to recipients.

This thesis deals with photographs in the printed media among the elections to the lower chamber of the Czech Parliament during 2Q 2006 and 2Q 2010. The main focus is picture of the politicians and the political parties. In the theoretical part of the thesis we sum up the main aspects of the media ahead of the elections and the publishing of photographs. We observe news factors, agenda setting, framing, spiral of silence, technical aspects of photography or manipulation possibilities. The practical part brings the analysis of the photographs in the home news pages of the in the four most-read broadsheet daily newspapers and another daily newspaper that is published by a political party. The analysis sample comprises all issues of the dailies in the period of five weeks ahead of the elections in the years 2006 and 2010. The data were analyzed by means of the quantitative content analysis. For this analysis we used up to 20 parameters. The quantified data were then analyzed by the SPSS and PASW statistical software. Relaunch of Hospodářské noviny(2009) and Mladá fronta Dnes(2010)-Comparative Analysis

The main aim of this thesis are two Czech nationwide daily newspapers Hospodářské noviny and Mladá fronta Dnes. This thesis focuses on graphics relaunches which these newspapers passed in years 2009 and 2010. It deals with question, how the graphics changes influenced appearance of these newspapers, their content and the position on the media market. This composition responsibly took the opportunity to show the reader in detail, how these newspapers have changed the look of the headlines, elaboration of photos, colors and other graphics components. Along with it the thesis analyses the content changes, such as stylistics or the way of submitting information. Last but not least it gives the comparison of the earning power of these newspapers, position of their publishers Economia and Mafra as well as interviews with publishers representatives.
Tabloidization in Czech Daily Press - Changes between 1995 - 2010

Diploma thesis "Tabloidization of the Czech Daily Press - Changes between 1995 - 2010" deals with continuous process of changes in Czech daily press. The study focuses on national Czech dailies both quality press and tabloid during the period of 1995 to 2010. It tries to explain different aspects that have brought the changes. The goal of this study is to show the tabloidization characteristics with the defined indicators in the quantitative analysis. Based on analysed data it can be concluded that not all dailies chosen show all features of tabloidization. The results of this investigation also indicated that the Czech dailies mostly tend to increase the number of local news and decrease the number of political news.
