"We Will Not Let Our Republic Be Disrupted!" - Third Resistance in The Czechoslovak Media
Dordová, Alžběta ; Groman, Martin (advisor) ; Knapík, Jiří (referee)
This thesis is focused on the topic of media use in a system of a communist totality. It provides an analysis of presentation of selected characters directly or indirectly involved in activities of the anti-communist, so called third resistance, in the Czechoslovak press media of that era. By using the interpretation of results of semiotic analysis of selected news and publicistic articles the author of the thesis attempts to answer the research questions and confirm or disconfirm the hypothesis that communist press media used the above mentioned cases particularly for the promotion of the official ideology. Political and medial contexts as well as brief life-stories of the chosen third resistance representatives are outlined in the theoretical part of the thesis, while the analysis with the interpretation of its results are discussed in the practical part. The conclusion of the analysis confirms that the communist press media associated those representatives with predominantly negative connotations and that the meanings of all the selected articles were strongly affected by propagandistic elements.

Comparative analysis of the visual component in the magazine Reportér and project Echo24
Weingartová, Michaela ; Láb, Filip (advisor) ; Turek, Pavel (referee)
The main goal of this thesis was to determine how projects Echo24 and Reporter work with journalistic photography using comparative analysis of their visual content. Both projects were found in 2014 as a reaction to a dramatical change of ownership of the Czech media. These changes also had an impact on journalistic photographers, because the new owners tend to save their costs on photography. This is also one of the reasons why I chose to analyze projects that started in 2014. To explain the broader context, in the first part of this thesis I describe the context of journalistic photography and the Czech media market development from the year 1989. In this work, I also describe other projects similar to Echo24 and Reportér. In the second part of the thesis, I use quantitative content analysis to describe the usage of the photographs in the printed version of Echo24 and Reportér. I also compare the collected data with answers from questionnaires with members of the editorial of the projects and photojournalists. In this paper, I found out that the project Echo24 represents the opposite approach towards photography than Reportér. Echo24, like other media, tends to save their cost on photography. Reportér on the other side can be defined as the protector of journalistic and photojournalistic values....

Czech Shovelware: from Czech Print Media to News Servers or Conversely
Némethová, Eva ; Jirků, Jan (advisor) ; Podzimek, Jan (referee)
This thesis investigates the trend of reusing the content of printed media in their on-line counterparts, based on several selected Czech national newspapers (Mladá fronta DNES, Lidové noviny, Právo) and their corresponding news servers (idnes.cz, lidovky.cz, novinky.cz) over the course of one constructed week in 2015. The theoretical section examines the interrelatedness of printed and on-line media, the impact of digitization on the transformation of the journalistic profession, and its influence on the content and recipients of media communications. The fundamental questions posed by this research are as follows: What percentage of the printed content is reused in the newspaper's corresponding on-line version and vice versa, and which of the selected media reuse the most content? The research operates with three initial hypotheses regarding the quantity and frequency of content conversion: printed journals reuse their content in on-line news servers at a rate of up to 5%, news servers reuse their content in printed journals at a rate of up to 10%, and the practice of shovelware is most frequently employed by the periodicals Mladá fronta DNES and Právo. The aim of the research is to reveal and interpret shovelware trends in the selected media and evaluate how this practice is perceived. The...

Tomková, Klára ; Kasík, Pavel (advisor) ; Nečas, Vlastimil (referee)
Digital technologies have radically changed the whole media environment. Essential changes may be seen mainly in the evolution and development of the internet as well as in web services, that are based on the internet working and thanks to which the online journalism has formed. The online journalism has its specifics that differentiate this kind of journalistic work from the work of journalists in print media. Cardinal difference between print and online journalism, that is important for this thesis, is the fact that online journalism, in contrast with the print, is a journalism in real time. This concrete specific allows to public news in very short time intervals and what is more, they can be processed almost continuously. And that is a fundamental difference from publishing news in print media, whose polygraphic processing slows down its reaction time. It is also a reason, why I have decided to focus on a comparison of online journalists` and print media journalists` time structuring mainly with the emphasis on the overlap of their working time to their free time. This element will be researched both in ordinary mode and during extraordinary events, that are reflected much faster in online journalism than in the print

One of the sources for the practical and theoretical part of this thesis are also interviews with Tomáš Jílek - reporter from Czech Television - and Tomáš Macek - reporter from Mladá fronta DNES.
