The specifics of working with children of foreign parents in a regular kindergarten

The diploma thesis is about education and integration of children - foreigners in the field of pre-school education. This thesis specifies the specifics of working with these children in standard kindergarten. The goal of this work is to find forms, methods and ways how to work with children - foreigners before starting compulsory schooling. The thesis is divided into theoretical and practical part. In the theoretical part the thesis clarifies the work and basic terminology, which includes a comparison of the terms child - foreigner and child with a different mother tongue. Furthermore, the thesis covers topics as communication, education, integration of children - foreigners into the environment of standard kindergartens and describes forms and methods of working with them. Within the practical part dominates a research focused on finding methods and forms of working with children - foreigners in pre-school facilities. This research was conducted in a selected kindergarten and it is based on research questions which were set. Data collection was conducted in the way of observation of kindergarten classes and interviews with school staff. Gathered data helped to find the answers to the research questions. It investigates the question if it's beneficial to borrow words and phrases from foreign languages or whether it's more effective to use solely the native language. In the theoretical part the author shows the historical, linguistic and socio-psychological context of commercial language code-mixing. In the practical part he introduces the qualitative research method of the focus group using 6 pairs of advertisement visuals, containing both the original foreign version and a version entirely adapted to the Czech language. Motivation to learn foreign languages and the plurilingual repertoire

The bachelor thesis deals with the theme of motivation to learn foreign languages and plurilingual repertoire. The first chapters are focused on basic concepts related to motivation, types of motivation and division of motives. The specifics of motivation in the field of learning foreign languages are also pointed out. The second level of the theoretical part is the plurilingual repertoire. This part is principally devoted to the language politics of the Council of Europe and the Common European Framework for Languages. The empirical part of the bachelor thesis stands on the basis of a survey. The research was focused on students of various specializations of bachelor study at the Faculty of Education of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice. The aim of the research was to find out what motivates students to learn foreign languages and which language level they reach in the given foreign languages, in each language skill separately.
The use of translation from a foreign language text for the development of textual competencies in mother tongue

The topic of this thesis is the use of translation from a foreign language as a tool to improve textual competence in the mother tongue. The first part deals with the evolution of foreign language teaching, the status of mother tongue in foreign language teaching, positive cross-linguistic transfer and interference. Further, the concept of the method is defined and different methods of foreign language teaching are described. It's specified whether the mother tongue and translation exercises are or are not used while using each of the listed teaching methods. The second part defines translation and categorizes types of translation and contains various types types of translation exercises. The last part is focused on stylistics (narrative techniques, writing genres and functional styles). A sample of translation from Czech into Spanish and vice versa is supplied for a majority of the functional styles.
Influence of an active teaching method of music lessons on selected second language ablities of primary age students

Music is integral to our lives, whether by listening to it, singing, or playing an instrument. In addition to this, music has effect on brain development and language learning. The aim of this thesis is close evaluation of relation between the development of musical and foreign language skills in case of primary age students. Through conducting an examination of the ability to gain foreign language skills using different ways of teaching musical education. 5th grade students who participated were divided into 3 groups. They differed in intensity and approach to music education. The first group had one singing lesson per week. The other two groups had as part of their lessons singing and also playing instruments such as flute and Orff instruments, and had movement education as part of their lessons. These two groups differed in intensity - 1 and 3 lessons per week. To note most of the students that had higher intensity of music education focused to music also in their after school activities. The three groups had the same amount of English lessons in all grades. Students were tested via Cambridge test "Movers" in listening, reading and writing. TITLE: Teaching English and Pupils with Special Educational Needs AUTHOR: Janka Kociánová DEPARTMENT: Department of Special Education SUPERVISOR: PhDr. Lenka Felcmanová, Ph.D. ABSTRACT: The thesis deals with the teaching of English of pupils with special educational needs, focusing on pupils with specific learning disabilities (SLD). The issue of pupils with SLD and didactics of English language are described in the theoretical part. The aim of the practical part was to find out how pupils with SLD are taught English in primary schools, which forms of education, the most frequently aids (textbooks, materials, etc.) and methods are used. Quantitative as well as qualitative methods were chosen for the research - the questionnaire survey (the questionnaire for teachers), aids and analysis of materials, interviews with teachers and case studies. On the basis of the obtained data, the effectiveness of the various activities is evaluated and a list of the recommended teaching aids, materials and resources is presented. Strategies of the Students' Learning at a Primary School

This diploma thesis deals with the topic of the students' learning strategies at a primary school. The strategies are demonstrated at an example of a foreign language. Based on this example, more general rules for using strategies in other areas are being searched. The strategies are understood as specific steps and methods used in the learning process. They are anchored in the curriculum documents, in particular under the learning competence. The theoretical part of the thesis is based on existing literature and it analyses learning styles and strategies of students at a primary school with the focus on a foreign language. The aim of the thesis is to find out to what extent students of the fifth grade use language strategies and what role a teacher's support plays. For the research, the questionnaire "Strategie učení se cizímu jazyku" was used. The thesis is also based on qualitative research consisting of observations and interviews with the teachers. The results show that the fifth-grade primary school students use the foreign language learning strategies to a limited degree. However, the teachers' support has an effect on the usage. : The acquisition of the article by Czech learners of Dutch as a foreign language

This Master's thesis deals with the phenomenon of learning Dutch as a foreign language. The paper draws upon the fundamental theories and methods associated with applied linguistics on second language acquisition, in particular on the interlanguage hypothesis. The theoretical basis to this study comes from psycholinguistic processes that accompany the second language acquisition, such as language transfer, fossilization, overgeneralization and variability. This section is followed by a brief summary of the theory of the Dutch article, in contrast with an outline on how definiteness and indefiniteness are expressed in Czech. The paper also mentions some recent findings on article acquisition by second language learners. The practical part describes and analyses a small corpus of written utterances by Czech students who followed courses of Dutch language and literature at three Czech universities. The corpus consists of utterances made by speakers at two levels of language proficiency. The thesis seeks to observe the differences between lower intermediate and upper intermediate students. The research focuses mainly on general tendencies in article use. Various factors that influence the use of this grammatical category are discussed.
