Specifics of teacher assistants work with pupils with ASD in mainstream primary schools in the field of social skills development

The aim of the bachelor thesis is to clarify the specifics of the work of teaching assistants with pupils with autism spectrum disorder in mainstream primary schools in the field of social skills development. The theoretical part of the thesis is devoted to autism spectrum disorder and basic theoretical knowledge about these disorders, including the definition of triad problem areas and the way of classification of individual disorders. The theoretical part further deals with the description of the position of teaching assistant within the Czech education system, including its legislative anchor. In the following chapters of the theoretical part of the thesis, the work of teaching assistant with pupils with autism spectrum disorder is discussed with a specific focus on methods that teaching assistant can use in his work with this target group. In addition, the topic of cooperation of teaching assistant with pupil(s), their family(s) and school is also presented. The theoretical part concludes with a chapter on the possibilities and importance of developing the social skills of pupils with autism spectrum disorder within the framework of normal education. Intensive Interaction as an approach for helping children with autism spectrum disorder

This thesis examines the possible use of Intensive Interaction in a child with autism. The theoretical part contains a description of autism spectrum disorders, unravels the difficulties children with autism face in the areas of sociability and communication, offers an overview of the theoretical background of Intensive Interaction and describes the way in which Intensive Interaction works. The practical part includes a case study of work with the Intensive Interaction method on developing social and communication skills in a child with autism. It was found that during the three months of the intervention, progress was made in the areas of sociability and communication and that some new patterns of behaviour emerged, such as eye contact, imitating classmates, social smile, shared attention or pointing to an object or activity. There has also been observed a significant reduction of stereotyped behaviour.
Self-concept of an individual with an autism spectrum disorder and its reflection from the point of view of close people

This bachelor thesis deals with the self-concept of an individual with an autistic spectrum disorder and the reflection of their self-concept through the perspective of his close person. The theoretical part, that is separated to four parts, presents the history of approaches to ASD and its symptoms, I describe three main problematic features for individuals with autism. Then it describes the self- concept, historical and present approaches and concrete parts of self-concept, it also shows the results of previous research of the self-concept of individuals with ASD and presents the possibilities of examining the self-concept. In the empirical part, I deal with the specifics of the self-concept of individuals with ASD, the degree of adequacy of the view of close people and the most significant differences between the statements of close people and individuals with ASD. It also includes three case studies of respondents with ASD, their close people and its mutual comparisons. I describe the self-concept of individuals with ASD, view of their close people and I compare those two views. I also look for common topics for those respondents. I answer my research questions on this base. I compare my research with current researches. I also reflect possible limitations of my research.
Horticultural therapy in individuals with autism spectrum disorder

Title: Horticultural therapy in individuals with autism spectrum disorder Objectives: The objective of this work was to map the use of education in the natural environment in children with autism spectrum disorder in schools and leisure organizations in the Czech Republic, with special focus on therapeutic- pedagogical use of gardens, called horticultural therapy. As a part of investigation, it was examined whether this form of therapy was part of the teaching process and how it might influence the behaviour of the individuals concerned. Methods: Empirical research was conducted by collecting data using a questionnaire of its own design. It has been sent to school educators who include the inclusion of children with autism spectrum disorder and to special organizations caring for individuals with autism spectrum disorder throughout Czech Republic. Results: The results of the questionnaire survey, which evaluated 40 responses, show that of the respondents interviewed, 41 % encountered the concept of ecotherapy and perceived it as an appropriate supplement. Student with Autism Spectrum Disorder - Teacher's Perspective

This bachelor thesis deals with the topic of students with autism spectrum disorder educated in elementary schools. The aim is to find out how teachers perceive these students. The theoretical part is focused on autism spectrum disorders, especially diagnosis of Asperger syndrome, students with this disorder, teachers and educational and training approaches to these students. The practical part explains the research metodology, which is based on semi-structured interviews with teachers who have experience with pupils with ASD a qualitative analysis of these interviews. Role of a special educational centre in training teachers to educate children and pupils vith autism spectrum disorder

The basic theme of this work is characterization of the role of Special Educational Centre in the training of teaching staff educating pupils and children with autism spectrum disorder. Theoretical knowledge in the field of autism and education of individuals with disabilities is compared with the content of specific educational seminars and with questionnaire survey from its participants. The analysis of the survey documents and reflects the needs of teachers and it is the basis for the workshop design optimization as well. The result of the presented work emphasizes the need to professionally educate teachers in the field of autism.
Specifics of motor development in children with autism spectrum disorder

Title: Specifics of motor development in children with autism spectrum disorder Objectives: The aim of this thesis is to summarize the accessible literary sources about possibilities of early diagnostic of autism spectrum disorders, characteristic features of motor development and presence of movement and other abnormalities during early development in children who were later diagnosed with some disorder of autism spectrum. Methods: The study is divided into two main parts. In the first part, general information about autism spectrum disorders is presented. The ethiopatogenesis, characteristic features and different types of autism spectrum disorders are described. The second, descriptively analitical part, contains a brief description and resume of many studies, which deal with early identification of autism spectrum disorder, with examination of features of autism spectrum disorder in early development and motor abnormalities in individuals with autism spectrum disorder or high risk infants. Results: The results of this study indicate, that there are differences in social behaviour, motor development and specific autistic features already in the early development of children later diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder.
