Trasffered stigma of otherness in ethnically mixed partnerships in the Czech Republic

My diploma thesis on the basis of intersectionality analyzes the social construction of "otherness" in etnically mixed partnerships and how does it manifests and influences the self- conception of Czech women that are in the mixed relationships. Further, it analyzes how the partners "otherness" affects the position of the women in the society. In my thesis I work with the concept of transmitted stigma, because the etnical otherness is not constructed on the horizontal differences, but contains also classifing and assesing aspects, which may situate the mixed patnerships to the positions of dis/advantage. For my qualitative research I have chosen semi-structured interviews with women, that were born and live in the Czech Republic and are or was in etnically mixed relationship. Thomas versus Hill and Kavanaugh versus Ford: Shifts in the cases' media framing by the The New York Times

Způsob nebo způsoby, jak média zachycují jednotlivce nebo události je označováno jako rámování. Ten představuje vykreslení situace pro veřejnost, která jej přijme nebo odmítne. Jde tak o určité aspekty vnímané reality a jejich zdůrazňování. V této práci byla provedena obsahová analýza článků prezentovaných jedním z nejvyhlášenějších amerických deníků - The New York Times - v kauzách jmenování kandidátů na soudce Nejvyššího soudu v USA - Clarence Thomase a Bretta Kavanaugha a jejich čelení obviněním ze sexuálního obtěžování podaných Anitou Hillovou a Christinou Fordovou. Cílem této analýzy bylo zjištění mediálního rámce u obou kauz s odstupem času tak, jak je právě prezentoval deník The New York Times. Právě čas je zde faktorem určité proměny ve vytváření rámců k dané problematice, avšak ne zcela ve všech aspektech. Postup a protokol při vyšetřování v rámci obvinění ze sexuálního zneužívání v USA stále chybí. Abstract The way or ways the media captures individuals or events are referred as framing. Depiction of society in historical television series: Bridgerton versus The Knick

The diploma thesis examines the depiction of social classes, men, women and ethnic minorities in historical television serials. It is concentrated specifically on a qualitative analysis and comparison of two serials, namely Bridgerton (2020) and The Knick (2014- 2015), of which both fall within the quality television genre. The thesis deals with the ways of representation of the societies of their respective periods, aiming especially at identifying the incorrect depiction of the historical period in question, if any, and at finding similarities with the problems concerning the today's society (such as addressing the issues of social inequalities and manifestations of the identity policy). The theoretical part of the diploma thesis describes the phenomenon of a television serial, namely that concerning the historical serial and quality TV genres, the latter being the kind of television serial work distinguishing itself by comprehensive and innovative procedures, elaborate narratives, and emphasis put on the development of characters. Attention is also paid to the field of the cultural studies, mainly the hegemony theory and the concept of ideology, media and their representation, as well as the study of media audience. The American Racial Reality: The Nexus between Critical Race Theory and International Security

Human Security and Police Brutality via the Lens of Critical Race Theory Leah Gideon Kuttu 47472109 'Equality' and 'dignity of persons' are common language in the legal lingo on rights and freedoms of all men. However there seems to exist, a large magnitude in discrepancy with the actuality of these ideals in the way that all people are treated, particularly in this work, in the American society. The death of George Floyd was momentous in refocusing light on the issue of police brutality and seemingly, institutionalized racism in America. That one post showing how Floyd was killed by Police, showed just how much Black America was treated in contrast to the stipulated rights for all persons noted in America's legal apparatus. There began for international security a marked turning point in the pivot with the human being- as opposed to the state- becoming the core object for security and protection. This new turn is pointed to the 1990s in the aftermath of the Cold war. Human-centric occupations in security connote that threats to international security begin with the individual and so the individual must first be prioritized when assessing threats to security in the state and the international system. Making a terrorist: The discursive construction of Islamist and right-wing extremist threats in Swiss media reporting

Dissertation｜2460442M Abstract The discourses structuring news coverage of terrorist attacks influence our understanding of the nature, drivers and severity of the threat emanating from a specific extremist actor category. Therefore, they are a powerful tool to further socio-political goals. Acknowledging the role of language in shaping reality, this dissertation project uses Critical Discourse Analysis/Critical Discourse Studies to reveal current discursive trends in the understudied coverage of Islamist and right-wing extremist attacks in the Swiss press. With the dominant social factor distinguishing the two extremist categories being ethnicity, it hypothesises that Western media discourses reflect the presuppositions of Orientalism and Critical Race Theory. Both theories expect texts to express, enact and legitimise social hierarchies based on racial affinity to solidify the supremacy of the white elite. The exemplarily analysis of the reporting of two recent extremist incidents by three newspapers representing political perspectives from the right-wing to the left-wing shows that while the Swiss press is indeed influenced by and reproduces racial inequalities, publications do so to a varying degree.

Analysis and mapping of binding sites of gene expression regulators in the genus of Streptomyces.

Streptomyces are medically important soil-living bacteria that undergo morphological changes from spores to aerial hyphae and are important producers of bioactive compounds including antibiotics. Their gene expression is tightly regulated at the early level of transcription and translation. In the transcriptional control, sigma factors play a central role; the model organism Streptomyces coelicolor possesses astonishing 65 sigma factors. The expression of sigma factors themselves is controlled on the post-transcriptional level through the action of sRNAs that modify their mRNA level. However, only several sigma factors in Streptomyces have known regulons and also their sRNAs-mediated regulation has not been studied so far. According to previously measured gene expression data, we selected several highly expressed sigma factors. Using mutant strains with HA-tagged sigma factors, regulons of two important sigma factors, SigQ and HrdB, were analyzed by ChIP-seq procedure. Other sigma factors were further studied to see if they possess asRNAs, using 5' and 3' RACE method and northern blotting. "The Gypsy Scourge!" Creation and Implementation of Anti-Gypsy Measures in interwar Czechoslovakia and After, 1918-1941

On December 22, 1926, an opening ceremony of the so-called Gypsy school was held in Uzhhorod, the capital of the Czechoslovak administration in Carpathian Ruthenia. Czech officials who gave talks pointed out pedagogical significance of the established institution which they described as unique and exceptional "experiment". The creation of a special school for children of those inhabitants who were labelled as "Gypsies" on the territory which was annexed by Czechoslovakia only later after the First World War and which in the contemporary imagination represented specific, "backward" region of the newly established state, served to consolidate the legitimacy of the First Republic as a democratic, progressive, modern, liberal state which belonged to the developed and civilized West. More than a half year later, on July 14, 1927, representatives in the Czechoslovak Parliament in Prague passed the Act No. 117/1927 on Wandering Gypsies. The development of this law was related to an immense interest of the contemporary media in "Gypsies" which was encouraged by the arrest of approximately twenty "Gypsies" from a village located in East Slovakia. Extreme obstacle racing

Extreme obstacle racing is a brand new sporting industry that is currently developing most not only in Europe but also around the world. I focused mainly on introducing this new sport in order to find out different level of the motor skills of beginners and professionals. In the theoretical part of my work, I defined what is characteristic for this sport and why it is so famous and wanted today. In the practical part, using the proposed test battery, I tested all the motor skills of beginners and professionals in order to identify the real physical differences between them. As a result of these facts, methods of testing, observation, processing, evaluation, analysis and statistics of data, along with the study of professional literature, were used. Based on the established hypotheses, I asked questions that I had in my opinions and attitudes to the beginners and professionals of this thriving sport. Through research and testing, we have found that professionals are certainly more dominant in motor skills than beginners with overall predominance in all underlying motor tests that included speed, endurance, strength and coordination tests.
