Modern Dystopia and Contemporary Western Society

The main purpose of this thesis is to analyze how the contemporary western society is reflected in the modern dystopian works' perspective. Key problems and aspects defining today's western society, e.g. consumerism and the role of science and technology, are specified in the introductory part of the thesis. The next part concerns with dystopian creation. Firstly there is focus on dystopian genre characteristics and its roots and typology. Secondly there is introduced a triad of classical dystopian works' representatives: Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, 1984 by George Orwell and Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. Every work is shortly introduced with its synopsis in the beginning and key features of described visions of society follow afterwards. Then the thesis speaks about chosen modern dystopian works' representatives in detail: The Matrix by the Wachowskis, Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins and Divergent by Veronica Roth. After the synopsis summary of each there is an analysis of key features, a comparison with classical dystopias and a search for parallels in the contemporary western society. Questions how modern dystopias reflect modern society and how they correlate with classical dystopias and expert literature concerning contemporary social phenomena are answered in the conclusion of the thesis.

Class, Disparity and Conflict: in the history of socio-historical thinking and present

This thesis is a theoretical-historical attribute and focuses on the theory of classes and class conflict, on the genesis of the concept of class. The thesis will analyze the authors and directions-schools that have had an impact on the ideological founder of the concept Karl Marx and also how they developed their thinking. Marx nor any other author of the term "class, classes, class" never clearly defined. It is a historical and sociological perspective on the concept of "class", which is often defined differently, and still there is any clear definition, which would approve whole academic community. In modern societies, the term "class" is not used so often and has been replaced by the concept of social stratification. In recent years, the "classes" being discussed by worldwide experts, but the solution is still not found. Nevertheless, this work is optimistic and the author clearly advocates that the term "class" will not vanish from professional sociological discourse.

Postmodern Society and Contemporary Tasks of Education

(in English): This Diploma work is examining the relation between contemporary social conceptions and aims of education how these are expressed by curriculum documents mainly in Czech Republic. But this relation is not the case of easy and unidirectional impact of social knowledge to educational science. That is why the first part of this thesis is focused on four important postmodern philosophical and sociological concepts differently delimiting as distinct from modern society. General overview of contemporary society change characteristics proceeding from these analyses is the basis of rather different ways of pedagogical thinking followings. With three pedagogical conceptions simultaneously present in nowadays pedagogical discourse, but originally emerged in different eras and different social backgrounds I am trying to point to considerable antinomy demands on present aims of education. I am delineating which phrasings of social reality the contemporary Czech educational policy is rising from. I am stating that the reduction of social reality as background of education in general can lead to formation of ambivalences in suggested educational policy solutions. Finally this diploma work is trying to put forward brief proposals for solution of these new problems of education.

Kramerius' Newspapers in the Years 1790 - 1793 and Their Role in Shaping the Czech National Identity

This thesis deals with problematic of public space at the edge of modernity in Kramerius newspapers in Czech. The first part gatheres together the results from existing research literature, discusses the question of the relationship between modernity and postmodernity that leads to the theoretical and methodological background of authors approach. The second part deals with the influences that shape the final content of Kramerius' Newspapers. Newspapers are seen as part of a broader discursive network. It is also the reader, who gets a word in a process of establishing the final content. Among other, this chapter focuses on the issue of creating a community of readers and the public sphere in Bohemia in the late 18th century as a preconditon for ethnic or even the national identity. The last part concentrates on specific topics in Kramerius' Newspapers, the reporting and processing techniques, which aim is to shape the reader and his view on observed events. The work ends with a statement that Kramerius' Newspapers by the content as well as form created a wider readership community, which maintained a certain social ties and also shared a certain form of the public sphere. Czechoslovak (Czech) Radio Broadcasting and Cultural Innovation

This thesis Czechoslovak (Czech) Radio Broadcasting and Cultural Innovation is designed as a cultural study of radio boradcasting development in years 1923 - 1999. Radio broadcasting development is interpreted as a process of cultural change. The aim of this thesis is to capture spreading innovation of the radio and describe the stages of this cultural change. The thesis is divided into two parts, a theoretical part and an empirical part. The theoretical part defines basic problems, deals with the theory of culture and media, the characteristics of radio communication. Particular attention is paid to description of the conditions affecting formation and development of the radio. The main focus of this work is to describe the radio development in Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic. The second part is devoted to analysis of empirical data and sources, predominantly to secondary and historical analysis of accessible data regarding the radio. The major emphasis is placed on culturological interpretation of results of the analysis. This part also summarizes the importance of cultural innovation in terms of development of the Czechoslovak and Czech radio broadcasting. Paola Mastrocola vs. Contemporary Italian Society. Thematic analysis of author's narrative and essay works.

The topic of this thesis is a thematic analysis of literary works of contemporary Italian writer Paola Mastrocola. The introduction is a short introduction of the author (her biographical and bibliographical data). After that there is a research of the most important topics that are shown the most in the Mastrocola's works (both prose and essays). The following section focuses on the artist's work with exaggeration, the use of irony or humor and comic elements, the difference between direct and indirect criticism. The conclusion summarizes the thematic analysis and the main common attributes of Paola Mastrocola's production. Finally, there is a sketched picture of contemporary Italian society, which the reader gains from her works. The suicide - Masaryk's lifelong problem

The work is focused on the theme of suicide in the presentation of T. G. Masaryk. Author's aim is to chart the Masaryk's life in such a way as to affect how the topic of suicide goes through the Masaryk's life and how is reflected in his work and opinions on the modern society. Is also pointed out, how this theme, in the background of Masaryk's philosophy, sociology and theology, mingles into all of these areas and connects them. The first part is devoted to young childhood of Masaryk and to his experience at the beginning of his academic career. It is outlined, how Masaryk got to know the theme of suicide and how he took it as his own. Another section is devoted to his personality and personal views on the world. Substantial part of the work is then focused on the interpretation of the religion and the modern developments of society in the administration of Masaryk and his theory of suicide. Following this, the author deals not only with this work demonstrative moral decay of society, but also with other Masaryk's works, in which is the problem of suicide reflected. Krize přirozeného světa The crisis of the Life-world PhDr. Klára Holá This doctoral thesis called The crisis of the Life-world is an interdisciplinary theoretical treatise on a problem of the crisis in connection with the Life-world, the main phenomenological issue. The crisis is related to the Life-world itself. The thesis tries to explain the problem of the crisis as a timeless concept ontologically related to a human being, as well as an ethical issue accompanying the development of the modern society. The aim of the thesis is to define the crisis of the Life-world, to describe its symptoms in the various areas, and to outline some possible solutions. To achieve the aim I have divided the conception of the crisis into two meanings which are related to each other: the ontological crisis and the ethical crisis. My hypothesis has proved the ontological crisis unavoidable, as it springs from the ambivalent position of the human being whereas we can balance the ethical aspects in various ways. I have used the comparative and phenomenological method as well as the phenomenological-hermeneutic methods of the text-interpretation.
