Irony in TV talk show

This work deals with irony in popular television genre, entertaining talk show. The first partdefines the basic concepts which we work with (public communication, cooperative principle, politeness, irony). In the second part there is characterized the media dialogue, specifically talk show. The third part deals with particular public television's talk show - Všechnopárty. This thesis examines, on selected examples, how irony works in the show, how it manifests itself and how it is used by participants in talk show. The main finding is that irony in Všechnopárty is used as a communication game, mostly as a specific variant of irony called teasing (banter). It is a communication acting describable as pretended threatening of face of communication partner or of your own face, resp. communication which intentionally and transparently for the viewer violates Leech's courtesy maxima (most often tactfulness and modesty maxima).Teasing irony in Všechnopárty is used as a fun element increasing attractiveness of the show for spectators and participants of the talk show are usually knowingly involved in it. Fairy-Tale Narratives in Dramas and Prose Fiction of Iva Peřinová

The following work from the field of czech literature for children will be focused on the interpretation of the literaty piece of work by writer Iva Peřinová. The first concentrates on the specifics of the motives and themes, refering to the standard puppet play and fairy-tails model. The second part of the thesis observes the poetics of Peřinova's fairy tails, paying a special attention to her narrative stragies, the way of the construction of the fairy tail characters and to the regularities of the composition. Verbal Irony in the Czech Discourse and its Perception Mgr. Dominika Rýparová Abstract This thesis sets the verbal irony into a broader context of human communication and supports the tendency to understand the irony as a communication strategy - not only as a speech figure or a tool to make our way of speaking more attractive. The aim of this work is to remind that irony is an integral part of our everyday communication, and a prerequisite for its use and understanding is built on the particular language experience. The experiment was examining the function of the four forms of irony, which differed in the degree of engaged humour or, conversely, expressed criticism. During the research one was able to get answers from a total of 3,167 respondents. Their analysis revealed that the major motivation for use of the selected types of irony is the humour, but the more humorous the statement is, the more the speaker takes a risk of not being completely understood, because he/she plays with reality too much. Further the results showed that the perception of irony-related emotions is influenced by our age. Younger people are more sensitive to the humorous points of irony, while the older are more tolerant of its critical part. The Ground of the World: A Marginal Problem in Hegel's Phenomenology of Spirit

Is there a world in G. W. F. Hegel's The Phenomenology of Spirit? This is the central question my doctoral thesis aims to address. Both scholars and philosophers alike tend to consider Hegel a thinker who, having formulated the philosophy of absolute spirit, has surrendered the world. Despite this suspicion, the consciousness finds itself at nearly every level of Hegel's oeuvre in a place called "the world". At every stage, the world changes its shape - along with the consciousness - but its function seems to remain the same. The world is a conception of totality; thus, the world is an object of the consciousness that, by definition, surpasses the consciousness and thus reveals its limits. This moment of a "worldly" estrangement is especially pronounced as the consciousness sets itself into action. One of the most recurring motives in Hegel's The Phenomenology of Spirit is the inability of the consciousness to realize its intentions as planned. The consciousness fails to recognize itself in the deed, and thus devises strategies to distance itself from the deed. In my interpretation, this testifies that the deed is the door to the world, and obviously this world is not one that would be in the power of the consciousness. Instead, it is the consciousness that needs to subordinate itself to the deed...

Interpretation of the novel Spas by Ivan Matoušek

The master thesis discusses the novel Spas by Ivan Matoušek published in 2001. The description of the structure and narrative time of the novel is followed by a characterization of the ironic self-conscious narrator and his relationship to the fictional world and the main character. The interpretation is partly inspired by a theoretical paper on irony by Vladimir Jankélévitch, which is compared with Paul de Man's concept of irony. The thesis also refers to Linda Hutcheon's theory of self- reflexivity and metafiction and employs the concept of mise en abyme.

Fin-de-siècle Elements in Flann O'Brien's Novel The Third Policeman

This thesis concerns the similarities between Flann O'Brien's novel The Third Policeman and fin-de-siècle literature, more specifically decadent literature and literature of the early avant-garde. The fact that, apart from metafiction, O'Brien's novel does not deal with aesthetics (neither when it comes to the form nor when it comes to the topic) does not invalidate the presence of fin-de-siècle elements or strategies in it; the elements only change and thus adapt to their new environment. Many of them become ironic, other ones actively contribute to the metafictional scope of the novel. The first chapter explains the parallels between The Third Policeman and fin- de-siècle literature in general. It concentrates primarily on decadent literature and its central theme of "unnaturalness." Unnaturalness occurs in variegated forms, such as artifice, artificiality or make-believe. Unnaturalness can be detected also in the protagonists themselves and even (in compliance with the metafiction of the novel) in the form of O'Brien's hellish world where the narrator finds himself. Linguistic Analysis of the Blog "Módní peklo"

Bachelor thesis "Linguistic Analysis of the Blog Módní peklo" introduces popular Czech blog Módní peklo which critically reflects shortcomings of Czechs in the domain of fashion. The introductory part of the paper contains the definition of the term blog and describes the current status of blogs in the Internet network. The main part of the thesis is divided into two larger units. The first one focuses on the detailed thematic and contentual characteristics of the blog Módní peklo. It describes the history of the blog since its emergence in 2010, including the most important points in its existence. This section also introduces the author of the blog and mentions web platforms that are thematically related to Módní peklo. The second unit brings an analysis of the language which is typical for the blog. The description emphasizes particularly lexicologic and stylistic terms. The described phenomena are exemplified by authentic examples from the blog. The conclusion of the thesis summarizes the findings reached in the previous chapters. This part of the text contains the debate of how the language of the blog affects its popularity among the readers. The thesis includes an interview with the author of the blog and appropriate text and image attachment.
