Indigenous people in the Australian political system
Haut, Šimon ; Říchová, Blanka (advisor) ; Guasti, Petra (referee)
This thesis describes the situation of indigenous people in Australia. However, before it is possible to approach the Australian aborigines, it is necessary to outline some theoretical concepts that can be used in the investigation of this issue. In this case, theories from the field of International Relations and International Law will provide us with basics framework. International organizations are also significantly involved in the whole issue, and they are also discussed in this thesis. This list is followed by examples from Sweden, Norway, Canada and New Zealand. All these countries have their own indigenous people and each of them has taken a different approach in dealing with the issue of their respected minority. Their examples show us where Australia could go. Thesis then examines the concepts and changes introduced by individual Australian governments since 1970. Emphasis is placed on distinguishing the Labor Party and Liberal Party governments, as we expect differences in the chosen approaches. A constructed timeline and selected laws and court decisions are used to analyse these differences.

Sůsa, Richard ; Just, Petr (advisor) ; Charvát, Jakub (referee)
1 Abstract Diploma thesis Media Image of Deputies in Czech Daily Press focuses on the identification of factors influencing the media image of certain Czech high-profile politicians. A three- year research period analyses the depiction of all members of the Chamber of Deputies, the lower house of the Parliament of the Czech Republic. Four Czech daily newspapers with the highest readership figures are chosen for the analysis, the sample is selected via the constructed weeks method. For clarity and to avoid the possible influence of strong media attention directed at the members of government, only the deputies who do not hold such executive office are included. The opening chapters provide an overview of a theoretical approach to political communication development and studies, as well as international research on politicians' media visibility. An extensive chapter depicts the establishment of an original Czech parliament-the Czech National Council-as well as its role in the establishment of the Czech Republic and the position of the Chamber of Deputies in the country's current political system set by the Constitution. As it holds a slight significance for the way politics is presented in the media, an overview of the electoral system and its main influential reforms is also included in this thesis. The...

Female candidates: analysis of the media representation of "femininity" in the Czech presidential elections of 2023
Michvoková, Marie ; Vochocová, Lenka (advisor) ; Reifová, Irena (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to form an idea of the ways in which "feminine" is portrayed in the media in the Czech presidential elections in 2023. The representation of women in top Czech politics is still a minority and no woman has yet become president or prime minister. This fact does not mean that women are not as suitable for these positions as men. It means that they do not have equal opportunities in the public sphere, or rather they do not even dare to enter it. This stems from a patriarchal social order in which public sphere is adapted mainly to men. In the theoretical part of the work, I will therefore focus on the history of feminist movements and the present of feminist theories in the field of politics, the issue of women in top politics and the conceptualization of new media and their relationship with political communication. The methodological and analytical part will deal with the research of media representations. In 2023, only one woman ran in the presidential election - Danuše Nerudová. Based on an analysis of her official social media campaign, I will assess how she worked with the fact that she is a woman. The second part of the analysis will tell something about how this fact is portrayed by one serious and one tabloid media and whether it is somehow important to them. The...

Content analysis of Twitter comments towards selected male and female candidates in the 2023 presidential election
Millková, Tereza ; Svobodová, Tereza (advisor) ; Dvořák, Tomáš (referee)
This bachelor's thesis analyzes Twitter comments under the posts of three selected candidates during the 2023 presidential election. The goal is to map whether there are differences between emotions, gender stereotypes, or topics towards a particular candidate's gender, and whether these variables change reflecting the gender of Twitter users. Thematic content analysis is chosen as the research method. Data are manually collected on the Twitter platform for candidate posts. Three dates during the last month before the first round of elections are chosen for data collection. A coding method is further used for the analysis of the collected data. The results respond to six pre-selected hypotheses. The analysis is divided into three parts - a message emotion, gender aspect and progress in time. In the first part, it is shown that more comments with negative sentiment are aimed towards the female candidate, and it does not matter whether the comment is written by an anonymous or non-anonymous user. In the second part, it is confirmed that more comments with a gender aspect are aimed towards the female candidate, and they are mostly focused on appearance. In contrast, for the male candidate, gender stereotype allusions to ability and sexual innuendo are the most common themes. The last section of the...
