Factors associated with lower levels of perceived stress and feelings of burn-out among elementary school teachers

This diploma thesis is theoretically-empirical. The theoretical part provides us with information about stress and burnout syndrome obtained on the basis of study of relevant literature. It defines the basic concepts of stress and burnout syndrome and introduces us to their basic characteristics. In the second empirical part is the rate and frequency of burnout staff is determined on the basis of a questionnaire survey in the sample of pedagogical staff. As a partical part targeted interviews with selected teachers are used as a complementary method.
Stress coping strategies in relation to emotional intelligence by prison guards

The thesis deals with the concept of stress and emotional intelligence. First, it discusses the major theories of stress, coping strategies and resilience. Furthermore, they are presented and described in more detail methods for identifying coping strategies. The next chapter describes the burnout syndrome and its causes. Chapter emotional intelligence deals with theoretical inputs of these issues and, as with stress are also presented in this chapter methods of detecting emotional intelligence. The last chapter focuses on the personality of the prison warden and qualification requirements for the profession. The empirical part deals with the research of emotional intelligence and coping strategies among prison guards. Subsequently outputs are evaluated quantitatively processed results of these two variables and the correlation between them.
Teacher Burnout and Coping Strategies

The purpose of the present study is firstly to investigate the problem of burnout among primary and secondary school teachers in the Czech Republic, secondly to explore the use of coping strategies against the occupational stress and burnout. According to many studies, burnout may be the result of unrelenting long lasting stress (Freudenberger, 1974; Holland, 1982; Peeters & Rutte, 2005). Correlation analyses was carried out in order to determine the relationship between burnout and coping strategies used by teachers. Subsequently the results were discussed with findings from several previous studies. Furthermore both teacher burnout and coping strategies were compared in various teachers' demographic variables - gender, education, age, school size and level taught, years of experiences and finally class and non-class teaching. In association with burnout, the results indicated 4,6 % of participants, who suffer from burnout often. 56 % teachers of our sample experience burnout rarely or very rarely and 39,3 % of teachers experience burnout never or very rarely. Significant difference was found in age category. Teachers in age 46-60 years experience the highest level of burnout. Burnout Syndrome in University Teachers - International Comparative Study

This thesis is concerned with the phenomenon of burnout in university teachers, who have been previously rather neglected in connection with this topic. The theoretical part provides an analysis of current knowledge regarding the development of the concept of burnout from the very early interest in this issue in the 1970s to the present, with emphasis being placed on the teaching profession, especially in the tertiary education sector. In the empirical part of the research, the assumption of different levels of burnout in university teachers in the former Eastern Bloc and Western European country was tested. This international study compares the burnout level in teachers from the philosophy faculties of Czech Charles University and German Universität Regensburg. In order to achieve a more holistic view of this topic, the levels of life engagement and depression have been studied as well. The data were collected with the help of Copenhagen Burnout Inventory, Life Engagement Test, Beck Depression Inventory and a sociodemographic questionnaire. The posibility of using logoterapeutics techniques for clients in residental care

Diploma thesis deals with the possibilities of using logotherapeutic principles for clients in residential care. It shows the importance of interpersonal relationships among the long-term sick and dying people. It is focused on social work in the context of helping professions. In detail it deals with the disabled people. To provide the most effective care the knowledge of the specific disability is necessary. Different types of complex approaches to clients in residential facilities are mentioned and humanistic and existential theories of social work are summarized. The main part of the thesis concerns logotherapy and search for the meaning of life using logotherapeutic principles. Theoretical way-outs are evidenced by personal experience, mainly from the hospital environment, from the work with long- term sick and dying clients.
Self-development of teachers as a basic premise of preparedness for a profession

This thesis follows the bachelor thesis ,,Gestalt therapy and its use in education" and deals with self-development of teachers as a basic premise for preparedness for the profession. It describes very complicated concept self-development of teacher itself, then it discusses the issues of teaching quality and professionalism, where the thesis again emphasizes self-development as a way of transition from semiprofession to profession. It contemplates the necessity of self-development due to the rapid changes in today's society and thus increasing demands on the personality of the teacher. This thesis is based on the belief in the importance of self-development of teachers mainly in social and personal qualities, it asks whether these qualitites are sufficiently developed in the pregraduate teacher's education and if the offer of further education is sufficient for today's teachers. A short chapter is devoted to the burnout syndrom. Empirical probe aims to validate the conclusions and research of the theoretical part. The chosen method for the probe is questionnaire for primary school teachers. There is a list of centers that provide teacher training in the end of the thesis.
