Selection of children's literature: family influence and the comparison between generations

In this bachelor's thesis, I focus on the family influence and a family's reading preferences during three generations. In the theoretical part, I list evidence proving important and indispensable influence of a family on the children's reading. I also mention some of previous researches focused on children's reading preferences. In the practical part, I evaluate a questionnaire that was asking about popularity of certain choosen books during three generations as well as about the family relations and the attitude towards the books that were read. This thesis puts emphasis on the family reading.
Bibliotherapy in the environment of public libraries

This thesis aims to introduce the notion of bibliotherapy and its application in public library environment. The text is divided into two parts - theoretical and practical. In the theoretical part, the notion of bibliotherapy itself is introduced, together with questions of who is engaged in this field, as well as the effects of reading. There are presented several book titles which belong to bibliotherapeutic literature. The substantial part of the thesis is then built on specific examples of bibliotherapy practiced in public libraries in the Czech Republic, as well as abroad. The practical part features first an interview with Mrs Marcela Kořínková who actively engages in bibliotherapy; second, there is a proposal of implementation of a bibliotherapeutic department in an imaginary public library, and last, there is a research presenting the wide public's awareness of, and interest in the field of bibliotherapy.
The support of the childrens' reading in the Czech Republic and German speaking countries

The diploma thesis concentrates on the children's reading issues, and compares the approach to its support in the Czech Republic and the German speaking countries. The introductory part is devoted to the current children's reading, the factors that influence it, and reading interests of today's children. It also evaluates the contemporary Czech children's literature and its publishers. The following two chapters describe the activities for the children's reading support that are developed by Czech libraries and non-librarian entities. The next part introduces the projects for the children's reading support implemented in Austria and Germany; it also shortly describes the programs of other German speaking countries. The sixth chapter briefly outlines the subject matter of the children's reading support in both Czech and foreign media. There are two surveys attached to the thesis. The first compares the activities of selected Czech and foreign libraries, and their contribution to the children's reading support. The second survey, implemented among the children readers of the Central Library of the Municipal Library in Prague, evaluates the children's satisfaction with the offered thematic discussions for the school classes. The Survey of Reading Skills of Pupils in the Second and Third Year of Primary School

This diploma thesis named: The research of reading skills level of students of 2nd and 3rd degree of primary schools, deals with making reading skills in the initial education. The thesis is divided into theoretical part and practical part. The theoretical part focuses to reading skills accordingly to RVP ZV, also to a student of younger pre-school age and current methods of reading which are used to teach reading in the 1st year of elementary school. The work also deals with basic types and qualities of reading, development of reading literacy, reading diagnostics and reading errors. The practical part is focused on evaluation, diagnostics and detection of reading skills. The main target is to find out the actual state of Czech students´ reading skills in 2nd and 3rd degrees and provide possible remedy of reading skills. The thesis is supported with charts and graphic material.
Reading and its Importance in Elementary School

The presented diploma thesis deals with the theme of reading and its role in the educational process. The thesis is divided into two parts, the theoretical one and the practical one. The theoretical part deals with the issue of literacy, concepts of reading, reader and the factors which can influence young readers. The practical part contains an evaluation of questionnaire about reading and popularity of books at secondary schools. It also describes the thematic plan of literary education, the effort to prepare and motivate students to required reading.
Influence of family and kindergarten on reading comprehension and literacy development of preschool children

The Master Degree Thesis focuses on the issue of pre-reading literacy and ways of its possible development in childhood. Its starting point is the fact that time devoted to reading aloud to children as well as encouraging them in playing with books is vital for their development and should be an inseparable part of a language learning process. The Thesis points at the imporant role of parents as well as kindergarten teachers in the process. Project "Every Czech Reads to Kids" is introduced. The aim of the last chapter is to show the educational process in the field of pre-reading literacy in particular Czech kindergartens. Role of parents is discussed, too.
Support of Reading in the Municipal Library Branches in Prague

(in English) The thesis deals with a support of reading with aim effort to offered service, organizing cultural and educational actions in the Municipal Library of Prague. The first part solves theoretical definition and the meaning of reading. There are briefly explained some terms that relate to - reading, the reader, reading socialization, reading literacy, etc. Factors that influence reading process and education for reading are monitored, as well. Furthermore, national representative projects supporting reading primarily in libraries are presented at my work, too. The second part of my work is focused on the Municipal Library of Prague and its role in supporting reading. It describes the library from the view of its mission, the way of financing (funding) and organization structure. The essential part pays attention to the presentation of specialized sections and services, which are provided in the library. It describes different actions supporting reading or providing propagation of the library. Last but not least, the different sections of the Municipal Library of Prague are depicted here with attention to organizing cultural and educational actions, which contributes to supporting reading. Petra Horynová DEPARTMENT: Special Education Department SUPERVISOR: PhDr. Pavlína Šumníková, Ph.D. Abstract This Bachelor's Thesis deals with how to apply a combination of different methods of teaching reading primary school pupils with multiple handicaps. The first part defines the phrase multiple handicaps and specifies the conditions under which the pupils with multiple handicap are integrated into the primary school. The second part specifies methods of teaching reading, defines mental conditions required for learning to read under usual conditions and determinants affecting the process of teaching reading children with multiple handicaps. Empirical research was aimed to analyse the methods and conditions of reading lessons for children with multiple handicaps, to map development of reading skills in a group of pupils with multiple handicaps and to verify the importance of combination of various reading teaching methods.
