Diagnosis of High School Students' Comprehension of Selected Sociological Topics

The dissertation is looking into the diagnostics of student's understanding of the principals of society organisation in relation to thecontentof sociologicalcivic curriculumeducation and socialbasisin secondary schools. The teoretical part delimits basic sociological terms, especially social stratification, social mobility and social status. Concept of didactical content knowledge and didactical theory of curricullum reconstruction is described to connect sociological approach to school education. Current research at this area are also presented. In the practical part was implementeda research inquiry, which used semistructured depth interview for data collection. The Gathered data wereprocessedqualitatively. The measure of hierarchy in society, the cause of social stratification and social mobility options, were primarily watched in the research inquiry. Where possible, student's answers were compared to previous research inquiry results.
Success of school leavers in the knowledge society

The thesis concentrates on unintended consequences of putting emphasis on education in the current society and their impacts on labour market success of school graduates as well as on fulfilment of employers needs from the perspective of occupying job positions in accordance with the demographic aging of the population. The thesis is trying to answer the question, if education has an adequate influence on the social mobility as it was in the recent past. The author is also trying to suggest possible solutions of the situation occurred on the labour market from the viewpoint of the qualified labour shortage with lower educational level, especially in the secondary sector. Possibilities are seen in the consistent assertion of the LLL conception, increasing the relevance of the education content and adapting to the changing requirements of qualifications through of cooperation between schools and employers. Last but not least the thesis also draws attention to the need of relevant information about the labour market development and chances of graduates to find a job in the chosen field.
Factors determining educational aspirations in the Czech Republic after 1989

5 Abstract In the bachelor thesis are described factors, which take part in forming of educational aspirations after 1989. Forming factors of educational aspirations are identified in the context of changes, which were in the Czech society during the last 25 years. The opening chapters are focused on historical context of forming educational aspirations. Factors are examined on the three levels: structural, individual and contextual. Forming factors are studied by available researches from the Czech republic and the point of view of their forming is enriched by knowledge from foreign researches. The thesis contains discussion about findings and the search of available studies, which contribute to aknowledgement of forming factors of educational aspirations. National and Political Cleansing in Mohelnice 1945-1948. Expulsion - Tranfer - Retribution Jaromír Mrňka, Institute of Economic and Social History FF UK, 2011. Bachelor thesis 'National and Political Cleansing in Mohelnice 1945-1948. Expulsion - Transfer - Retribution' copes with theme WWII aftermath cleansing processes in town of Mohelnice in northern Moravia during the period of the so called Third Czechoslovakian Republic. In the context of long- term development of Czech-German relations in the region and other context of revolutionary changes in a structure of post-war society, thesis examines involvement of particular historical players during the period of the so called expulsion of Germans and wild retribution from May till July 1945, in the execution of the so called Great decree from July 1945 and in the organized phase of the transfer of German population in the region during the year 1946. Thesis studies motivations and changes of social status of defendants of the Great decree in the connection with their engagement in structures of the NSDAP.
Brains versus Brawn: Comparison of the Educational and Occupational Status of non-EU Labour Migrants in the Czech Republic

The main aim of this thesis is to examine the educational and occupational structure of non-EU labour migration to the Czech Republic. Using insights from human capital theory and the sociology of migration this thesis explores the extent to which there is an educational-occupational mismatch among non-EU migrant workers in the Czech Republic. This thesis uses currently available statistical data and evidence from qualitative and quantitative sociological studies. The dissertation exploits data from two unique surveys conducted by the Institute of Sociology, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic in 2006 and 2010.
Individual and social contexts of dawnward social mobility

The author deals with the phenomenon of individual and social contexts of downward social mobility. She focuses on cases of families with at least one college educated parent whose children did not follow their parents in college education attainment. After defining terms such as social status, social mobility, capital and social reproduction that are key for later analysis, she summarizes previous researches of social mobility and educational inequalities. Thereafter she presents a qualitative analysis of gained interviews with ten respondents. This research has been done by methods of grounded theory that enable to uncover contexts of the analysed phenomenon. The author argues that the phenomenon in general, according to the analysis, is not a problem. It is understood as a problem only after it has been set into the context of the social situation in which the phenomenon occurs. According to the analysis the children of college educated parents do use and develop their abilities gained by socialization and upbringing by college educated parents. Nevertheless, these children do not develop their abilities in the formal system of education that is commonly conceived as the best educational institution. It is just the authority of this institution that creates the social norm - one of the contexts...
