Health myths Promoted by Online Media
Jeníková, Anna ; Vochocová, Lenka (advisor) ; Zezulková, Markéta (referee)
The diploma thesis deals with current media myths about health and the human body. Dissemination of myths among the general public has been facilitated by the emergence of new media that allow a multi-layered debate across social groups. Online content offers a quick source and a wide range of answers or inspiration on health and human body issues, usually without the need to indicate where the information comes from. I will focus on the discussion about detoxification of the human body in life-style online media for women. Contemporary discussions on this topic show that easy access to information has prompted a wave of so-called "self-healing" described as a situation in which people consult their health problems primarily with online content, and then, if at all, with their GP or with another expert. Although some myths have been scientifically refuted, they still have their "proponents" who can represent legitimate knowledge. The very word "myth" or "half-truth" or "superstition" is discursively specific, burdened and represents an ideology. In many health and human body issues, there are many arguments of both parties (both mainstream and alternative medicine). I will observe this extreme polarization in the diploma thesis that is neither a defense of expert votes nor "experts by...

This bachelor thesis is about news web Seznam Zprávy. The main goal of this thesis is to point out it's position across media especially online. At the beggining it shows the start of Seznam, later it takes on the despription of the website. I documented the articles from August 2019 using content analysis. In a practical part I turned my focus to biggest and most famous personalities at Seznam. Later the thesis walks us through some of the most famous cases and broadcasts of Seznam Zprávy. I also looked at the pros and cones of internet news and described the concepts of hoax, fake news and click-bait. In the end I described why I think Seznam Zprávy is a phenomenon not only online, but also the general journalism. In attachment I also put in a codex of Seznam Zprávy.
How selected online media report about death of czech athletes?
Řehák, Matěj ; Macková, Veronika (advisor) ; Chladová, Marta (referee)
Czech football players František Rajtoral, David Bystroň, Pavel Pergl and hockey player Adam Svoboda have all lost their lives in time period between years 2017 a 2019. All of the mentioned deaths were caused by suicide. Death and suicide discourses are both very sensitive topics in media, although they are quite common. There are not even much handbooks or manuals how to cover these incidents properly. Ethical and moral codex plays a much bigger role here because of sensitive perception of death and suicide in society. Media still try to be more popular than their rivals, thus they turn to tabloidization even in reports about deaths of athletes. These incidents meet usual news values as negativity, surprise and relationship to elite people, so they are usually very popular. Responsible journalism and cautiousness are necessary in these cases, otherwise there is a risk of misinterpretation of reality between media consumers and also have negative impact on people suffering from suicidal tendencies. Research of this essay focuses on analyzing the articles about mentioned sportsmen, which should reveal problematic aspects of professional news reporting about these kinds of events.
