Attitudes of Secondary School Pupils to Visual Arts
HÁTLOVÁ, Jana
This master thesis investigates attitudes of pupils aged 13 to 15 to visual arts. The work is divided into two sections. Within a theoretical section, the focus is on pupils from the point of view of developmental and social psychology. The following section is dedicated to attitudes from the perspective of general and social psychology. Afterwards, the issue of educational institutions and their curricular documents concerning visual arts is discussed - whether the output of the subject fulfils particular goals of visual literacy. The theoretical section also mentions methods, forms and actions which can be used to mediate visual arts. An empirical section researches an answer to the question: "What are the attitudes of pupils aged 13 to 15 to visual arts?" In order to find out the answer, a quantitative research combining questionnaires and a method of semantic differential is conducted.

Jana Kerhartová Play, playfulness and humour in the practice of the Art Gallery H Abstract This thesis presents activities of an unofficial private art gallery which operated in Kostelec nad Černými lesy in the 1980s. The research for the paper combined the oral history method, work with visual and textual archives and (visual) semiotic analysis. The aim of the research was to describe the activities of The Art Gallery H and to verify the possibilities of didactic transformation of some chosen aspects into visual arts education. The data, especially interviews with witnesses, historical documents, artworks and school lessons have the character of utterances in the poststructuralist context. Memories of the time and the alternative community viewed through the lens of today bring us important information about the present as well. Clandestine culture arisen in the totalitarian regime brings a new perspective into issues such as freedom, focus of our activities, relation to the establishment, ethics. The main concept that interconnects the whole thesis is the relation between humour, play and art creation. This motive is also important for the context of visual arts education. The outputs of the research were presented in the book Humour and Play in The Art Gallery H and at the exhibition of the same name...

Hachlincová, Lenka ; Lahoda, Vojtěch (advisor) ; Petříček, Miroslav (referee) ; Klimešová, Marie (referee)
(in English) This dissertation paper deals with the transformation of the relationship letter and image in the Czechsoslovakian art in the 1950s and 1960s, interpreted from the point of view of the cultural and social events not as the history of art, but history of reality representation. The objective of the paper is to create a more complex view of various levels of integration of letter and image in domestic environment, so it approaches the phenomena of letter and image from a specific interpretation point of view based on three main lines. Mapping the phenomena of letter and image in the context of that period in Czechoslovakia, which preceded work structuralizing, was the base of the first interpretation line which bases the core of work on four social "activators", which, in the mind of an artist, activated the need to incarnate letter and image. Since the subject of the paper is the letter as a material manifestation of the language, the second interpretations line follows the purposeful modification of the language structure between the signifiant and signifié, which occurs in visual imaging. The third interpretation line puts the first two into a broader, aesthetic and philosophical context due to which, more complex language structures entering the art of work can be identified. Using...
Representation of visual arts in Události v kultuře during the first two years of broadcasting of the television block ČT art (August 2013 - August 2015)
Lebedová, Veronika ; Sládková, Hana (advisor) ; Köpplová, Barbara (referee)
The main topic of this thesis is the role of media in society with respect to the relation between media, society and culture. The thesis aims to reassess selected issues, based on critical theory of media and society, and to verify their relevance in contemporary Czech context. These subjects are theoretically based on several concepts of authors connected with the so called Frankfurt School and on the critical theory developed by their followers. Their opinions are applied on the Czech environment through the perspective of cultural studies because of the shift in social and historical context since the former theories appeared. After media studies left the ideas of technological determinism, their dominant paradigm has changed to social constructivism, being interested in the meaning of media contents. In cultural studies, the meaning is interpreted using tools of structural and semiotic analysis. The same research perspective and method are applied in this thesis. Considering the interpretation of meaning in the representation of art in the program Události v kultuře, we could partly reflect on the mythology and ideology of Czech society in its relation to culture. The primary result of the empirical research is the fact, that media messages about art represent (implicitly or explicitly)...
Copyright and other protection of visual arts
Šatrová, Adéla ; Křesťanová, Veronika (advisor) ; Holcová, Irena (referee)
Copyright and other protection of visual arts The main topic of this thesis is the copyright and other protection of visual arts. Its aim is to present the main principles of Czech copyright law, illustrate these general rules on examples of visual art, and point out the specifics of the Czech copyright towards these works. Apart from the Czech copyright law, this thesis presents the basic rules of American copyright law, as an introduction to this subject matter in a different legal system. This thesis then shows the legal rules of copyright law in the Czech Republic, which emerges from civil law, and the legal rules of copyright in the USA, which extends from common law. The purpose is not to compare these two legal systems in detail, but to explain the Czech rules in context of a foreign legal system, which offers different concepts and other solutions. The first chapter presents the legal sources of Czech and American copyright. Chapter two describes the basic principles of Czech copyright law, which is followed by an introduction to American copyright law in chapter three. These two chapters interpret the origins of Czech and American copyright, define the work of copyright in both systems as well as explain in legal terms of what a "work of visual art" means in these systems. Chapter four is...
Exhibition versus "exhibitioning". The Czechoslovak pavilions at Expo 1967 in Montreal and Expo 1970 in Osaka
Nekvindová, Terezie ; Klimešová, Marie (advisor) ; Šetlík, Jiří (referee) ; Švácha, Rostislav (referee)
The paper focuses on the Czechoslovak pavilions at the 1967 and 1970 World Expos. Both events took place in the period around 1968, when, however briefly, the Czechoslovak visual arts partially overlapped with the state's cultural policy. The pavilions (especially at Expo 70) also reflected the socio- political contexts of the year 1968.. In Czechoslovakia towards the end of the 1960s, the purpose of "exhibitioning" - i.e., the state-sponsored exhibition trade - was to communicate with the public and to (re)present the country abroad. Its main goal was to promote and spread the ruling ideology. On the other hand, the Czechoslovak visual arts scene was beginning to consciously work with the medium of the exhibition as a comprehensively composed unit, either through innovative exhibition design and installation or through installation art. While the exhibition trade reached its high point in the 1960s and began to disintegrate into rigid mannerism towards the end of the decade, real experiments with the format of the art exhibition were just beginning. This study focuses on the question of how these two fields (art and the exhibition trade) approached the medium of the exhibition in the 1960s. I study the Czechoslovak pavilions as a cultural artifact in which aesthetic, social, political, and economic forces...
Motives of the pre-Colombian art in modern Mexican art
Taltynová, Marie ; Křížová, Markéta (advisor) ; Binková, Simona (referee)
Diploma thesis Motifs of pre-Columbian America in modern Mexican art deals with the pre- Columbian motifs in the work of three leading representatives of the Mexican muralism - Diego Rivera, José Clemente Orozco and David Alfaro Siqueiros. Muralism, monumental painting with a clearly defined socio-educational function, started to develop on the initiative of the post- revolutionary Mexican government, since the 1920s of the 20th century. During its development, it gained international fame and today it is widely regarded as a uniquely Mexican style of art. An integral part of muralism form scenes from the life of pre-Columbian cultures. The main objective of this work is to analyse these scenes, the origin of particular motifs, their original meanings and meanings, which they assumed in the context of the murals. The work also reflects where muralists acquired knowledge about the Indian civilizations and what image of pre-Columbian past they created. The work also seeks to clarify the question in what specifically was the muralist access to pre-Columbian cultures innovative. The paper uses qualitative methods of analysis of the available written sources and analysis of visual materials.
