Universal clothing and its use in museum education
Švejdová, Kateřina ; Fulková, Marie (advisor) ; Raudenský, Martin (referee)
In my thesis, built on the bachelor's thesis, I focus on the universal form of clothing. In the theoretical part I research the common features of garments in changing cultural and historical contexts. I focus on general aspects of clothing. I search for connections between functions and forms of clothing. I monitor the impact of historical styles on the work of contemporary clothing designers and I seek the universal features of today's fashion apparel. I observe the interest of children, teachers and also of publications in textile creation. In the art section I work on a series of proposals for universal variable apparel. By using patents it is created more models out of just one. I document and crtitically reflex the final results of possible model variations. In didactic part I suggest educational program for selected clothing exposition. The program includes worksheets and the posibility of using a universal garment as teaching tool. The program I verify in practice I also document and evaluate.

Medalová, Lenka ; Levínská, Markéta (advisor) ; Doubek, David (referee)
The bachelors thesis is focused on the relation between fashion and self-concept, particulary in older schooled-aged children. The text is structured into two parts - theoretical and empirical. The first section of the theoretical part is devoted to give a definition of terms related to self-concept, such as self-esteem and self-representation. The second section is focused on the relation between fashion and self-concept then. A view on the fashion as a reflection of time and changes of the women role is provided at first. Changes of fashion and beauty ideal arise from manners of the time and status of the sociaty. The force for fashion changes and interest in fashion is introduced in context of wish to express sexual attractivness, social status or individual personality. Those are in connection with identity of individual on a personal, social and gender level. The theoretical part is based on theoretical resources to clarify what is the origin of self-representation involving clothing on those three levels, what is the infuence of fashion on them and how the fashion is affected by them. Empirical part is devoted to qualitative research, which was conducted in secondary school. The aim was to explore how the phenomenon of fashion is reflected in the life of adolescents and what is the role of it...
Fashion as a Differend
Schambergerová, Lucie ; Fišerová, Michaela (advisor) ; Charvát, Martin (referee)
The work called Fashion as a Differend presents the demands of critics of fashion and shows that they are in decomposition with its definition as defined by J. - F. Lyotard in the context of a postmodern condition. It argues that discourse overriding the demands of fashion critics is asymetrical with discourse within which fashion is defined. It turns out that there is a logical paradox with regard to the essence of fashion, which is transience or rapid change (at least as fast a change in society) and the floating demand for slowing down, stability and other criticisms that are linked to its transformation.
Clothes Make the Man: Dress as a Medium of Meanings
Märzová, Hana ; Šanderová, Jadwiga (advisor) ; Volek, Martin (referee)
In this thesis the meanings given by students to dress are examined. Then, these meanings are compared to those discussed in sociological literature dealing with dress and fashion. Dress is not only a protection of body against unpleasant weather but also a medium for meanings related to the wearer of the dress. Through a dress it is possible to express social status, social role, hobbies, opinions, membership in various groups and also lifestyle. Clothing and fashion are strongly associated with young people because the fashion is made for them and they contribute to its creation. For adolescents dress is a matter of particular importance because it enables them not only to express, but also to build their identity and thus reach adulthood. Dress has also an important role in our relations to other people. The analysis of interviews with students resulted in the finding that meanings given to dress by students are similar to those discussed in sociological literature. For interviewed students it is important to have a freedom to wear, what they want, because it enables them to be themselves. The findings from interviews rather contradict Simmel's assumption because a fashion is considered by interviewed students as uniform, while originality is located outside the fashion. Those students also...
