The diploma thesis " The transformation of the press releases into the media texts" deals with criteria according to what journalists make decisions, what press release should be included into the news and what should not. Since the present media studies perceive gatekeeping as a broader process of information control involving all aspects of message encoding, therefore not just a selection but also a compilation, a transmition, a formation and the timing of information transmition from a supplier to a recipient, the diploma thesis also pursues the transformation process of a press release into a media text itself. The diploma thesis is divided into a theoretical and a practical part. This chapter summarizes the knowledge to the topic from scholarly literature. The second and the principal part of the diploma thesis is the practical and application part. Kotasová, Martina ; Suk, Pavel (advisor) ; Štechová, Markéta (referee)
This bachelor thesis compares the media image of Islam in German and Czech media before and after the murder of the Dutch director Theo van Gogh. He was assassinated on 2 November 2004. His murderer was young Muslim Mohammed Bouyeri. Van Gogh's murder caused the wave of violence in the Netherlands. In Germany it caused many concerns, because there is a large Turkish minority and other Arabic minorities. The impulse for the assassination was probably van Gogh's film Submission, which questioned the Islam stereotypes and criticized the treatment of women. After his murder the political debate on the issues of integration and immigration arose in the Western Europe. This bachelor thesis analyzes articles from German and Czech media, namely from the weekly magazine Der Spiegel and from the journal Mladá fronta DNES and uses the qualitative content analysis and the method of the grounded theory. Media reflection of partisan leader and its influence upon electoral success of the party in parliamentary elections in the Czech Republic
Vocel, Jan ; Brunclík, Miloš (advisor) ; Švec, Kamil (referee)
The key research question for my bachelor thesis deals with the problem of how great is the media image influence of the leader of a political party on the success in the elections. I will try to answer this question in the case of Jiri Paroubek, who was the leader of the Czech Social Democratic Party in the elections to the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic in 2006. I decided to verify these theories, that explain the issue of leader and election campaign personalization. Then I carried out my research on two of the most famous newspapers on the right and left of the political spectrum: finding out how positive or negative was before the election the media image of Jiri Paroubek and Czech Social Democratic Party in these two newspapers. The research results are then compared with the pre-election opinion polls and election results and verified, if the media image of Jiri Paroubek was really different from his political party and whether it had an impact on the electoral success. It could help verify the validity of several theories, that leadership attributes of the leader have the great influence on the success of his party.
