Supporting multilingual pupils at the beginning of their schooling

In the diploma thesis, we focus on the topic Support of a multilingual student at the beginning of schooling. The aim of this diploma thesis is to systematically examine the issue of education of multilingual students at the beginning of schooling with an emphasis on integration, inclusion and legislative aspects. The work focuses on the analysis of the needs of these pupils, the support provided by schools and teachers, and evaluates the effectiveness of these measures. In the framework of the theoretical part of the work, key terms such as integration and inclusion, the characteristics of a foreign student, the needs of multilingual students at the beginning of schooling, and the legislative framework for the education of these students will be defined. Furthermore, the work will focus on the possibilities of how schools can provide support to multilingual students, and analyzes supporting language measures and pedagogical support. The empirical part will present the results of a case study that examines a specific student with a multilingual background, his educational environment and the measures provided by the school. Development of readership through peer teaching

The thesis deals with the development of reading through peer learning and the search for examples of good practice in the current school environment in the Czech Republic. Formally, the thesis is divided into theoretical and empirical parts. The theoretical part of the thesis is devoted to the development of reading, the characteristics of the RWCT program, CORI and Reciprocal Teaching. It goes on to describe the incorporation of project- based learning and peer learning methods. The research section of the thesis includes a description of a multi-case study that describes good practice in developing literacy through peer-led learning. How to implement multicultural education for pupils at primary school through working with text

This thesis focuses on the development of multicultural education in third year primary school students (in Czech education system) through work with literary texts. In terms of its form, it is divided into theoretical and research parts. The theoretical part contains basic information about multiculturalism, interculturalism, prejudices and stereotypes, deals with the concept of multicultural education in curriculum documents and goes into more detail about the development of reading literacy at the first level of primary school. In particular, it focuses on the development of reading skills through RWCT methods and the three-phase E-U-R learning model. The research part of this thesis contains a description of an action research carried out in the third year of primary school with the aim of developing multicultural education in pupils through a literary text. On the basis of observation, an interview with the class teacher and a pretest of pupils' current attitudes towards multicultural society, five reading lessons based on five selected children's books were realised and then reflected upon in order to develop pupils' multicultural education. Personal Notes on Reading in Primary Education action research

The present thesis focuses on the use of reading records in the Czech language and literature lessons at the first level of primary school in the implementation of reading lessons. The thesis is divided into theoretical and practical parts. The main aim of the theoretical part is to define the basic concepts related to the topis, i.e. literacy, development of reading, motivation to read, reading diary, compulsory reading and reading records. The theoretical part describes specifically those reading records that are used in the practical part of the work, i.e. poster, letter to a character, graphic organizers, questions, double diary. The practical part was designed as an action research where reading lessons were designed and then taught in Year 4 of primary school, between October and December, in which a variety of reading records were used. A total of seven reading lessons were implemented, with the last, seventh, lesson serving as a reflective lesson. The output of each reading lesson was a worksheet along with the reading record. Climate of a school class at a primary school

This diploma thesis focuses on the social climate in primary school classrooms. It aims to assess whether classroom teachers have an overview of the social climate in their classes. The thesis is divided into theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part examines the social climate of the classroom and the school. Additionally, it deals with aspects of inclusion and integration in the educational environment, as well as classroom management strategies that influence the classroom social climate. In the practical part, teachers' characteristics of the climate in their class are compared with the results of climate examinations conducted in their classes. The research happened in three classrooms and combined qualitative and quantitative approach. Three instruments were used for data collection: a questionnaire, interviews, and a observation. During the research evaluation phase, the averaged student responses in the questionnaire were compared with the teachers' responses, and data triangulation was performed. The completed questionnaires were compared not only with each other, but with the teachers' characteristic of the classroom climate obtained through interviews and observations as well. Intercurricular teaching programme Fish of our waters

The aim of the thesis was to create a proposal for a teaching programme focused on the issue of fish occurring in the Czech Republic, in order to facilitate the work of teachers who can use the activities during their personal practice. The first part of my thesis focuses on the issues of water around us (lakes, ponds, running waters) and on some of the fish species living in the Czech Republic which are introduced to pupils in primary school lessons. The second part focuses on the design of a cross-curricular teaching programme, which includes tools such as worksheets, pictures, etc. Last but not least, reflection from practice and evaluation tests are included to verify the effectiveness of the proposed activities. The results show that after the implementation of the proposed activities, students have an overview of fish and everything related to them. They know some of the representatives, they can tell what fish needs to live, what it looks like, describe its body, distinguish between freshwater and marine fish, know what they breathe, what the fish's lateral line is for, etc. They also know what a fisherman needs to own when he wants to catch a fish and that it is not an easy job.
The transition of students from little class school to a fully organised school

The diploma thesis is focused on the transition of pupils from a small school to a fully levelled school. The thesis is divided into theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part of the thesis focuses on historical development of small schools and their basic characteristics, as they are very different compared to fully levelled schools. The focus here is on a fully levelled school and the transition between grades. Common and different features between a small school and a fully levelled school are outlined here. The practical part consists of the case studies of two selected pupils from the fifth grade of one small school, which were later analyzed during the transition to second grade. The practical part also includes interviews with school principals of two small schools, which are then compared from the point of view of organization. Additionally, the satisfaction and reservations of students' parents towards both types of schools are examined through a questionnaire provided to them. Otherness of Pupils from Migrant Backgrounds as a Topic for Story-Based Teaching

This thesis examines the topic of teaching the theme of otherness of pupils from migrant backgrounds to younger school-aged children, specifically through narrative engagement utilizing the Reading and Writing for Critical Thinking methods. Within the framework of action research, reading lessons were designed and executed to explore various facets of the situations faced by pupils from migrant backgrounds. This educational intervention is meant to facilitate comprehension of these pupils' circumstances and foster the overall acceptance of them. An analysis of the outcomes for each lesson is presented, also the outcomes were evaluated in terms of pedagogical reflection. Moreover, two of them were evaluated by another teacher. Topic relevant literature for children was thoroughly examined and incorporated into the research findings. The reading lessons were based on the following four titles: Kiko and the Secret of the Paper Butterfly, Maja and Kim, The Arab of the Future and Eric. The following methods were employed: unstructured observation, thematic analysis, semi-structured interviews, and content analysis of the lesson outcomes. Educational Possibilities of Abstract Painting at the Primary School

The diploma thesis deals with the issue of abstract painting in primary school. The aim of this work is to describe and evaluate in detail the process of student understanding of the principles of abstract painting in the process of an art project realized in the second grade. The theoretical part describes the current concept of art education - pedagogical constructivism, visual literacy, interpretation, reflection and reflective dialogue, creation, artwork in teaching and assessment. The theoretical part also includes the relationship between art and curriculum. The next chapter is devoted to painting and its types, then abstract painting is described - what it is, when it was created and what influenced it. One of the representatives of abstract painting, František Kupka, is also mentioned with two of his important abstract works, which the students try to interpret. The practical part contains the progress and evaluation of the author's pedagogical action research.
