Specifics of foreign language teaching in the post-communicative period
ZAPOMĚLOVÁ, Anna
Foreign language teaching is currently undergoing major changes. The focus on the development of intercultural communication competence as the main objective of foreign language teaching is extended by new concepts of teaching focused at the pupil and the development of his individual multilingualism. The pragmatically focused communication method is slowly alternating with the so-called post-method era, in which there is an altered formulation of the goals of foreign language teaching. In the Czech context, this change in concept has not been sufficiently reflected yet. The aim of this work is to define the specifics of foreign language teaching in the post-method era and also to analyze the use of this method in traditional and alternative schools, comparing the findings and draw conclusions for teaching practice.
Learning styles of pupils in the education of natural history
MALEČKOVÁ, Michaela
The bachelor thesis focuses on the topic of learning styles. There are described learning and some approaches to learning and strategies of learning in the review of literature. The next part of the literary part presents the most famous authors and their theories concerning learning styles of students. The following part applies on diagnostics of learning styles. In the last part there are characterised teaching methods which are used in biology and the signs that teaching methods and learning styles have in common. The practical part and results focused on learning styles of students from 8th and 9th classes from primary schools. The research data set contains 125 cases that reflect differences in learning styles depending on the pupil's gender or whether certain learning styles are related to biology. It is found whether a certain favourite area of biology (f. e. biology of human body, zoology, botany ...) is related to a learning style, whether the teaching method affects the popularity of biology, or whether a certain learning style is related to the teaching methods and forms in biology.
Media education in chemistry teaching
Matějčková, Veronika ; Teplý, Pavel (advisor) ; Janoušková, Svatava (referee)
This thesis deals with the integration of media education into chemistry teaching. The thesis is divided in two parts. The first part develops media education as a tool to obtain media literacy, didactics approach in teaching of media education and methods used in those teachings. Undisputable part of the first part of this thesis is the position of media education in curricular documents in the Czech Republic and investigation of a real state of media education teachings at Czech primary and secondary schools. The results of the investigation showed that the skill of media literacy of students in the Czech Republic is rather below average. The investigation also showed that the most common form of implementation of media education teaching is integration into other educational areas. Second part of the thesis contains a questionnaire among teachers of science subjects focused on integration of media education and educational materials which were prepared after evaluation of first part of the thesis, and which are a practical demonstration of a relationship between media education and chemistry subject. The created teaching materials contain theoretical starting points for the given topic of media education, methodological instructions for teachers and worksheets, teaching presentations or other...

Valenta, Jan ; Malá, Michaela (advisor) ; Prokešová, Eva (referee)
Title: First Aid in Secondary Education Objectives: The aim of the thesis is to compare the knowledge of first aid students of selected secondary schools in Karlovy Vary and their possible relationship to the number of teaching hours with the topic of first aid and the teaching methods used. Methods: In our theoretical-research thesis we used the method of analysis and the method of comparison. Available school documents, data obtained during testing of pupils' knowledge and data obtained by means of a survey from teachers were analyzed. Data collection took place using a test and a survey. A comparison of the data followed. The research group consisted of 82 students and 4 teachers from 4 selected secondary schools in Karlovy Vary. Results: We found minimal differences in first aid knowledge among students of selected secondary schools in Karlovy Vary. We did not find a direct link between students' knowledge and the number of first aid lessons and teaching methods used. Development of the Initial Reading Literacy in ITV (Integrated Thematical Content)
Slaná, Kateřina ; Wildová, Radka (advisor) ; Ronková, Jolana (referee)
The diploma thesis deals with development of the initial reading literacy in integrated thematical content (ITC). In the theoretical part, attention is paid to initial education, its definition, methods of teaching reading, organizational forms and evaluation. The thesis briefly describes the development of integrated thematic teaching, explains its concept and important components, and it also describes the use of this teaching technique in the 1st grade of primary schools, especially in the first years of studies. Another part of the work is focused on the personality of the pupil of younger primary school age, on his cognitive and social prerequisites for successful entry into school. The research part is implemented through several methods, where I tried to obtain a wider range of data for the use of integrated thematic teaching in the development of initial reading literacy. The observation of teaching brings insight into the practical use of this teaching model, the experiences of teachers are determined by a questionnaire survey and the knowledge and skills of three groups of pupils are investigated by a research probe, where during data processing I compare the level of partial levels of initial reading literacy in the monitored group with ITC with two control groups, which they do not...
Creation as the way of reaching educational goals in high school literary education
Grulichová, Veronika ; Komberec, Filip (advisor) ; Laufková, Veronika (referee)
This work deals with creation in literary education. In its view creation is not only an addition or a way of education results verification. It is considered to be a way how to achieve literary goals. It also deals with contemporary didactics teachers' views and context of Czech curriculum. It looks for specific forms of creative work in professional publications and analyses chosen current textbooks in the terms of questions and tasks for students. It comes to a conclusion that professional publications can be seen or used as a source of particular methods and principles and textbooks can be used as a database of appropriate texts from the didactics point of view. Furthermore, the work brings the reflection of a few own lessons based on the creation. Studying the resources leads to the view, that creation is a source of constructivism, an option not to learn completed conclusions but to achieve literary knowledge through a process by working with an artistic text. Students are learning by making an artifact and communicating about it. The pivotal point of work in the class is a reflexion which helps students to take the knowledge adopted by creation. Most often creation in literature is put into practice by creative writing or by drama methods. It is still possible to find and make meaningful...
The intensity of teachers’ use of teaching methods and its impact on learning outcomes
Korbel, Václav
One of the two principal aims of the Czech Republic’s national Strategy for Education Policy up to 2030+ is to transform both the content of school curricula and the methods used to teach them. For example, greater emphasis is to be placed on group activities, project-based teaching, the application of knowledge to various contexts and enquiry-based learning. Yet, to date, rather few studies have analysed how different types of teaching methods are used by primary school teachers in the Czech Republic or at the equivalent level abroad and what impacts their use has on learning outcomes. This study uses longitudinal data from a representative sample of primary school pupils to analyse what percentage of lessons — in the Czech Republic and abroad — make use of four specific teaching approaches: 1) lecturing, 2) appropriation, 3) comprehension and 4) testing. We then look into the relationship between these teaching methods and pupils’ progress in reading skills and mathematics between the fourth and sixth years of primary school. The data on teaching methods was gathered from fourth year primary school teachers via a questionnaire as part of TIMSS 2011. To estimate the relationship between teaching methods and learning outcomes, we make use of the fact that the pupils were tested in two subjects in both years. This means that we can estimate the difference in progress made when pupils are taught using each method with greater or lesser intensity in the two subjects (pupil level fixed-effects).
Pupil's motivation to learn during distance learning
Topinková, Jana ; High, Radka (advisor) ; Duschinská, Karolina (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with the issue of student motivation during distance learning. This form of education is becoming a common form of teaching due to the cyclical recurrence of the Covid-19 pandemic. In the theoretical part, I focus on defining motivation as a key tool for student's learning, its distribution and selected theories. I focused mainly on the motivational theory the psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud and Murray's theory of needs. In addition to the general definition of motivation, I deal directly with the motivation of pupils in teaching. In the next chapter I mention the specifics of distance education and focus on its positives and negatives. And not only from the point of view of the cantors, but above all also of the pupils themselves. In addition to forms of distance learning, I also introduce readers to the most well- known platforms that enable distance learning. The practical part is devoted to a survey that I conducted last school year among my 7th graders. I analyze the obtained data on the basis of a group discussion with pupils, which took place in May last year. As a basis for this discussion, I used the stylistic work of students in which, from their point of view, they had to evaluate the pros and cons of distance education. I compare the obtained data with already...
