Teachers versus totalitarianism: Pedagogical faculties and their activities during the breakthrough year 1989
Cingrová, Kristýna ; Koura, Petr (advisor) ; Parkan, František (referee)
The thesis deals with the involvement of five pedagogical faculties in the Czech Republic in the Velvet Revolution in 1989. These are the Faculty of Education of Charles University, the Faculty of Education in České Budějovice, the Faculty of Education in Hradec Králové, the Faculty of Education in Pilsen and the Faculty of Education in Ústí nad Labem. The focus is mainly on the activities of students after the events at Národní třída on 17 November 1989, such as the announcement of a student strike, the establishment of strike committees and the beginnings of student self-government. However, attention is also paid to the atmosphere at the faculties during the 1980s and the activities in which students were involved during this period. One of the chapters is also devoted to students as important actors in our history. The historical development of higher teacher education in Czechoslovakia is not omitted. Other chapters are logically divided according to the individual faculties of education and include the historical development of the faculty, the atmosphere in the 1980s, the course of the student strike and the further direction of the faculty after the Velvet Revolution. The individual faculties of education are then compared with each other. The work is based on the analysis of contemporary...

Kellerová, Anna ; Kucharská, Anna (advisor) ; Kučerová, Olga (referee)
This master's thesis deals with the demanding responsibilities of studying at a conservatoire and coping with them. The aim of the thesis is to research how students experience their studies, the stress and also how they cope with the stress itself. Conservatoire students are a very specific group of pupils. From an early age they publicly perform, they are being judged, compared and they develop a very unique individual relationship with their teachers. All these circumstances can lead to difficult situations in their life. The theoretical part of the thesis is therefore divided into 4 main chapters. In the first chapter there is a brief description of studying at a conservatoire with a focus on its technicalities. The second chapter examines stress amongst musicians, what causes it, how it emerges, and I also mention stress among young musicians and how it differs from stress experienced by professional musicians in this chapter. The next part brings the reader closer to specific challenging situations in the lives of conservatoire students and the last chapter describes coping strategies that can be used in the lives of musicians. The practical part of the thesis is carried out in the form of semi-structured interviews with conservatoire students from several schools in the Czech Republic. The...

In the empirical part, the author uses a qualitative approach with a case study design and analyses the results of semi-structured interviews with open-ended questions. The research sample consists of 8 teachers of the selected secondary school and the headmistress of the school. Finally, the author summarizes the findings, compares her findings with other research, and lists the benefits and limitations of the work. Based on the results of the research, she submits recommendations for practice that reacts many of the barriers identified by respondents. The results of the research show that teachers develop professionally to varying degrees and consider development to be a natural part of their work. They identify barriers such as lack of time or lack of motivation from management. Management then perceives the financial burden and inappropriate timing of training events as a barrier.
